Killeagh-Ita's Juvenile GAA notes for 19-12-2011

Fé 15 Premier 2 County Football Final
Sam Maguire's 1-10 Cilliath-Íde 0-12

Having secured the County U-15 Premier 1 hurling title in emphatic style in November, hopes were high that our U-15's could achieve an historic double by adding the football crown. Having disposed of St. Nick's in the semi-final in awful conditions on Tuesday night, we were pitted against Sam Maguire's from Dunmanway - the Juvenile club attached to the famous Dohenys club - in the final on December 18th @ 1.00 p.m. We arrived in the little village of Riverstick, a week before Santa, to contest the final, with the weather thankfully more amenable than it had been on Tuesday evening. Both teams normally don green, so both had to change for this clash. We togged out in our football maroon and Maguire's opted for white.
Whistle blown, the scene was set; Maguire's were very quick to settle and had secured the opening score and only goal of the game within four minutes, quickly followed by a point. Despite this early set back, we settled well and plugged away, securing our opening score with a well taken free by Eoghan Keniry. This trend continued for the next passage of play and Eoghan secured a further two white flags for us, little between the sides. Maguire's then took the upper hand and secured a further four points (3 frees) to stretch their lead. Not to be outdone we dominated play in the closing minutes of this half and pulled them back with points from Padraig Walsh and two more from Eoghan. As we approached the half time whistle we were in hard luck not to level matters as a rasper of a shot from the boot of Dan Landers hit the crossbar and rebounded back out to play to deny us that much needed goal. Thus the half time score was Sam Maguire's 1-6 to Killeagh-Ita's 0-6.
A very exciting second half unfolded as both teams exchanged points from frees in the opening ten minutes. Sam Maguire's added another white flag before we secured a trio of points to close the gap to just the minimum, 1-8 to 0-10, with ten minutes remaining on the clock. These closing minutes were very tense, with Maguire's adding two fine points to their tally to again extend their lead, but we never gave up and again pegged them back to the minimum, but alas the clock stopped ticking and we were on the wrong side of the winning line by just one point. Sam Maguire's 1-10 to Killeagh-Ita's 0-12. The joys of sport! Heads up lads, you have done us proud throughout this long season, which began in the very first days of January for this bunch of committed boys. Our thanks to Declan, David and Conor for your dedication and expertise throughout the year with these lads. We now look forward to the festive season before we contest the football league final in 2012, best of luck to you all.

Congratulations
Our history-maker, Tracey Kennedy, is settling quickly in to her new role as Public Relations Officer of Cork County Board, the first female to hold an officer post in the County Board. Tracey will undoubtedly do this job as efficiently as her previous posting as Killeagh secretary, and her other current posting as East Cork Board secretary, and we wish her very well in this prestigious and responsible role. Go n-eirí leat, a Threasa!

Season's Greetings
To all our players, parents, mentors and supporters, we wish a safe and enjoyable Christmas season, and every best wish for 2012, both on and off the field. Our notes will resume in January, where we will review our December AGM, and look ahead with optimism to a year of action in 2012! Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 13-11-2011

Fé 15 Iomáint Cluiche Cheannais
Cilliath-Íde 7-12, Fánaithe an Ghleanna 0-10
What a sweet way to bookend our hurling year! Having been given a salutary lesson in the finer arts of senior hurling by Glen Rovers in Midleton last June, it was nice to be able to turn the tables a little, albeit at a younger age level, with a performance of skill, courage, teamwork and determination on Sunday last at St. Finbarr’s GAA Grounds in Togher, seeing off the challenge of the Glen’s finest with some style. The pitch was in pristine condition for this eagerly-awaited final, with many thanks due to our hosts St. Finbarr’s, and Coiste na nÓg for the preparation. Leaving our little village at lunchtime on Sunday, full of anticipation and excitement, we travelled in huge numbers to support these boys, donning the green and white of our club.
A tense, scoreless, opening seven minutes was how this game began, with both sets of players settling into their stride and adjusting to the cross winds. Daniel Smiddy was the first to register a score, raising a white flag for the Killeagh-Ita’s boys, while it took until the fourteenth minute for the City lads to get off the mark and secure their opening point. With both sides on the scoreboard, the game sprung into life. The Glen took the lead when they accurately converted a free, but this was short lived as Dan Smiddy rattled the Glen net for the first goal of the game for the boys in green. The rapturous roar from the supporters had hardly died down when Dan struck again- goal number two!! We were now dominating play and Eoghan Keniry raised two more white flags to add to our tally. The Glen boys secured another free, before Padraig, Shane, Darragh and Eoghan scored some excllent points to extend our lead. Approaching the half time whistle the Glen picked off a trio of points, all from frees, however we wrapped up the first half with a duo from Dan Landers and Padraig Walsh, leaving the scoreboard reading at the half way mark: Killeagh-Ita’s 2-9, Glen Rovers 0-8. Whistled back into action by reiteoir Peter Downey of Inniscarra after our pep talk and refreshments, it was the City boys who secured the opening score of this half, reducing our lead to two green flags. In reply, nippy corner forward Gary Leahy secured goal number three for the Killeagh-Ita’s boys, which was probably the decisive score of the game, as it gave us an extra cushion and no little confidence. Both teams exchanged frees and raised white flags for their teams. However, this point was to be the final score for the Glen boys as our boys in green took complete control of the closing twenty minutes of this encounter and went on to secure a further 4-2 to their tally, with Eoghan Keniry scoring 2-0, and Dan Smiddy and Gary Leahy scoring 1-1 each. The sighs of relief and shouts of joy rang around the Togher neighbourhood as the Killeagh-Ita’s captain, Darragh Cahill accepted the Donal O’Sullivan Cup on behalf of his fantastic team mates and club. Our congratulations to all involved; the twenty- five strong, dedicated squad who have given us some great exciting games in this championship and I must mention that they have not conceded any goals throughout!. Congratulations to their mentors Mark and Andy who have been so committed to these lads since the first days of 2011, and deservedly have reaped the rewards. A big ‘ thank you’ to all who have helped out in any way, and to you the parents and many supporters who have been with us along this journey. These lads now turn their focus to the Fé 15 Football Championship which will see them in action on Sunday next in Ovens at 3.00pm when they play the home side of Eire Óg. We look forward to another great team effort from all of these committed players and we wish Declan and Dave at the helm every success.
Panel: Colin Walsh, Cian Greene, Conor Cusack, Eoin O’Connor, Gavin Coleman, Darragh Cahill (captain), Bobby McCarthy, Brendan Delaney, Darragh O’Brien, Eoghan Keniry, Padraig Walsh, Shane Smiddy, Daniel Smiddy, Daniel Landers, Gary Leahy, Killian Treacy, Corey Broderick, Tadhg Coleman, Sam Desmond, Eric Murphy, Andrew Leahy, Darren Cusack, Kenneth Cantillon and Kevin Fennelly.

Fé 13 Iomáint League Final
Cilliath-Íde 7-9, Baile An Chollaig 6-8

We travelled to Ballincollig to contest the U-13 Hurling League Final against the home side under lights last Monday night, and finished off our year in style with a great win. This truly was an amazing game of hurling, with the excitement at its height throughout the hour. We started well with scores from Killian, Luke and Aaron to notch up 3-2 without replythe opening minutes. After apoint from Aaron and one from a placed by Killian our period of dominance began toas the home side began to settle, and slowly reduced our lead leaving us onlypoints up at the break. The second half was a very close affair with both sides hungry for victory. Ballincollig quickly drew level but our lads kept in touch and it was neck and neck, score for scoreto the finish. Team effort was the name of the game for our boys, Eoin Treacy pulled off some great saves under pressure. The backs were solid as always with Dan and Kevin clearing their lines in great fashion. Midfielders worked tirelessly under very strong opposition. Up front our boys took some great scores, with Killian deserving of special mention for compiling a massive personal tally of 5-6! We deserved our victory in what was a very high scoring and entertaining match. Final score Killeagh-Itas 7-9 Ballincollig 6-8. Kevin Murphy accepted the plaque on behalf of his team. A big thanks to Declan Galvin and all the mentors throughout the year, to Ballincollig for hosting on the night, and WELL DONE to all the lads!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 06-11-2011

Fé 15 Iomáint Cluiche Leath-Cheannais
Cilliath-Íde 1-13, An Bhlarna 0-05

Many thanks to the groundsmen of Clonmult Memorial Park, Midleton, for setting the scene perfectly for this semi-final clash, between the Blarney and Killeagh-Ita’s boys, on a wet and windy Bank Holiday Monday. This was expected to be a close encounter as both teams were fighting to secure a place in the County Final. A tense opening ten minutes saw both teams defend well, thus the scoreboard remained blank! Dan Landers got us off the mark, sending over our first point of the game, closely followed by Eoghan Keniry perfectly converting a 65 meter free. The Blarney boys responded with a white flag of their own. Killeagh-Ita’s dominated play for the closing quarter of this half and Dan Smiddy took control of our forward line and the scoreboard, securing a further 1-2 to increase our tally. We continued to hold the upper hand from here to the half time whistle, with three more white flags raised in our favour, from the camáns of Eoghan, Shane and Padraig. Blarney secured their second score of this half, a point, as the short whistle sounded. Around the Park the hum of analysts began and the scoreboard read Killeagh-Ita’s 1-7, Blarney 0-2.
Back in action, thirty minutes away from a County Final place, Dan and Eoghan extended our lead adding a further two points, with Blarney securing a free and adding one to their tally. The closing twenty minutes were hard fought, with Blarney giving it their all to claw their way back and with Killeagh-Ita’s, with the ‘pedal to the metal’, ensuring they stayed ahead. In the closing stages our spectators were treated to a hat-trick of points from Eoghan, with a reply of two from the boys in red. Before the final whistle sounded, we raised the last white flag of the day, thus securing our place in this year’s County Final on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-5.
This was a fantastic team performance in testing conditions, and credit is due to all involved. Well done boys, we are so proud of you all and your mentors, Mark and Andy, and all who helped out on the day. We wish you all the very best of luck on Sunday next, November 13 as you take on the challenge of Glen Rovers in the County Final, which will take place in Togher at 2.30pm. Please support!!

Fé 12 Iomáint
Killeagh-Ita’s 7-4, Mooncoin 7-4
We returned to Carrigeen in South Kilkenny for Babhta a Dó of their invitational 10-a-side astroturf tournament on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning. Our opponents were Mooncoin, with ne’er a rose in sight! Maybe it was the fine weather that led some of our team to believe they were at the beach rather than in a hurling match for the first fifteen minutes, as we were very lethargic and lacking in focus. The result was that Mooncoin took a stranglehold on the game with three quick goals and a point. Their big full-forward was creating havoc and over the course of the game we tried four different players in a man-marking job, before Keane Kelly Budds finally quelled his influence. Ironically, our starting full-back Daniel Hickey benefitted from these switches as he revelled in his full-forward role, especially after half-time. By that stage we had clawed our way back into the game to trail by 4-2 to 2-1. In the second half the team gave a much better performance with the backs well on top and Daniel having a ‘tour-de-force’ outing up front, banging in lots of goals. Our management made a shrewd switch, pre-empting Sligo Rovers’ later exploits, by moving Shane Kearney out of goals and putting Jamie Clifford between the sticks, and this further improved our situation. With 2 minutes left we led by 7-4 to 6-3 and looked as if we would hold on for a win, but the concession of two late frees resulted in a goal and a point for Mooncoin and a finish which saw both teams ar chomhscór, 7-4 each. We return on Sunday next for Babtha a Trí. Many thanks once again to the parents who faithfully followed their sons out of the province, and to Hilary and the Carrigeen club for their warm welcome and equally warm tea and good food after the game. Foireann: Shane Kearney, Barry Motherway, Daniel Hickey, Jamie Clifford, Dylan Hogan, Keane Budds, Fionn McDonnell, Richie Long, Jamie Landers, Adrian Galvin, Padraig Leahy.

Indoor Hurling
The next six weeks see us transfer our hurling activities indoors. The U-9, U-10 and U-11 boys are in Youghal GAA Hall on Monday evenings between 6.00 and 8.00 p.m., while our U-6, U-7 and U-8 boys are in our own facility in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Tuesday evenings from 5.00 p.m. (staggered times). Bígí ann, agus bíodh sport agaibh!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 31-10-2011

So the clocks go back and the season begins its wind-down. In some ways the wind-up is starting, with our Fé 15 (championship semi-final), Fé 13(league final) and Fé 12 (Carrigeen league) hurlers all in action in the coming days. Meanwhile our buachaillí níos óige prepare to go indoors from November 7, with our 9’s, 10’s and 11’s heading to Youghal on Monday evenings and our 6’s, 7’s and 8’s utilising our indoor facility in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Tuesday evenings. Meanwhile, here’s a round-up of some of our action in the past seven days.

Fé 12 Iomáint
Our annual pilgrimage to Carrigeen in South Kilkenny for their invitational 10-a-side Winter League began on Sunday last, October 30. This league, played on the fabulous Carrigeen all-weather facility, sees teams from Waterford, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford, Cork and Antrim converging on the outskirts of Mooncoin for a series of weekend games at the tail-end of every year. Our 12 hurlers found their way to be on time for an 11.00 throw-in, and thankfully all of us remembered to rewind our clocks so no-one was there too far ahead of schedule. Our opponents were Rathnure of Wexford, and it was a marvellous game from start to finish. Rathnure were faster out of the blocks and had two early goals before Daniel Hickey scored our first point. From there to half-time we held the upper hand with goals from Sean Walsh and Jamie Landers, accompanied by points from Sean and Richie Long, giving us the lead approaching half-time. However, a late Rathnure goal left the teams ar chomhscór at half-time – Rathnure 3-0, Killeagh-Ita’s 2-3. The second half was a rip-roaring contest with both goalkeepers playing exceptionally well, with Shane Kearney producing a series of outstanding saves to keep Rahtnure at bay. An injury to the Rathnure goalkeeper then left the door ajar for us for a short while and Keane Budds took advantage with two great goals, while Dylan Hogan added a third. A point and goal for Rathnure kept them in touch and in a dramatic last five minutes Rathnure scored three quick-fire goals to snatch a one-point lead. We looked beaten but our young team worked really hard to get one last attack going and in a goalmouth scramble the sliotar was willed over the line by a few inches, with Adrian Galvin probably entitled to claim the final touch, although in truth any one of four could claim it. We held on for a narrow two point victory, by 7-3, to 7-1, much to the satisfaction of bainisteoirí Adrian and the travelling support. Next weekend we return for Babhta a Dó, with the fixture details to be finalised, depending on the impending Fé 13 League Final which is also due next weekend.
Foireann: Shane Kearney, Jamie Clifford, Daniel Hickey, Dylan Hogan, Keane Budds, Fionn McDonnell, Jamie Landers, Adrian Galvin, Sean Walsh, Richie Long, Padraig Leahy and Barry Motherway.

Fé 10 Parish League Finals light up the night
History was made on Wednesday evening last when our first ever floodlit Parish League finals took place in Páirc Uí Chinnéíde. In the B Final Ryan McCarthy’s Blue Team, who had been devastated by their semi-fianl defeat a few days earlier, made amends by comprehensively beating the Green Team of Robert Sinclair. The A Final was a fiercely contested game, with both defences playing exceptionally well. For a while it looked as if Dara Motherway’s Yellow Team, for whom Robbie Treacy and Liam Hoogstad played exceptionally well, would hold on to take the title, but a late goal from young Jamie Fogarty and a flurry of points from Paul Delaney, saw Olan Broderick’s Red Team deservedly take the honours, much to the delight of bainisteoirí Johnny I. Well done to all the boys who played in this league over the past month, and many thanks to the bainisteoirí John, Colin, Donie and Tom. A special word of thanks goes to our regular referee Brendan Delaney and to Colin Fogarty who refereed our A Final and stayed on to present the trophies to the winning captains. This concludes our outdoor campaign at Fé 10, so many thanks to everyone – parents, mentors and players – for making the past year so enjoyable and productive. Our six-week indoor hurling campaign for Under 9,s 10’s and 11’s begins in Club Áras in Youghal on Monday 7, with 2012 only a few short weeks away! Take that!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 24-10-2011

A good weekend for our older young hurlers, as both our Fé 13 and Fé 15 teams had very impressive, although very different, wins in their competitions. Meanwhile, our Parish Leagues were extended by 4 days to overcome the Autumn gales. The future’s looking good, especially if we can play all our matches in horrible weather conditions!

Fé 15 Premier 1 Hurling Championship
Our opponents for this quarter final clash were the city boys of Na Piarsaigh, and we crossed camáns in Carrigtwohill last Saturday. The weather conditions, with driving wind and rain, did not dampen our spirits or eagerness to begin. Brian Walsh blew us into action, and the opening ten minutes had both sides adjusting to the weather elements. During this time we did not avail of some scoring chances, which could have cost us. Eoghan Keniry got us off the mark with a well-executed free; in fact he was our main scorer for this half, notching up four of our five points tally, with Shane Smiddy lending a helping hand. We were unlucky to have Tadhg Coleman’s goal disallowed in the closing quarter. Na Piarsaigh struggled to penetrate our defence and find the target and it took them until the twenty eighth minute to raise their first white flag. A foul stroke on our corner forward Gary Leahy saw a little heated scuffle break out and resulted in the Na Piarsaigh corner back receiving his second yellow card, thus leaving the fray. On the stroke of half time our opponents added their second point to leave the half time score Killeagh-Ita’s 0-5 to Na Piarsaigh 0-2.
We continued to dominate the opening stages of the second half. It was Eoghan who once again got us off the mark, quickly followed by a duo of points from Dan Landers and substitute Killian Treacy. The honour of the only goal of the game fell to Shane Smiddy who finished it perfectly to the Na Piarsaigh net, which set us up with a comfortable lead heading into the closing stages. Na Piarsaigh’s replied with two more white flags, one from a placed ball and one from play. We dominated the run of play and the scoreboard from here to the final whistle, adding a further six points to our tally, courtesy of Dan Landers (2) and Eoghan Keniry (4). This victory of 1-14 to 0-4 over the City boys sets us up for a semi-final clash with the Blarney boys next weekend. Well done to you all and to your mentors Mark and Andy, wishing you continued success. Stay tuned, date, time and venue of semi-final to be announced.

Fé 13 Iomáint League Semi-Final
We travelled to Carrigaline to take play our hosts in the semi-final of the league. With heavy rain and strong winds we braved the elements and took charge of the game from the start. Our boys put over point after point, and when a long range free from Kevin Murphy dropped to the back of the net we were well on top. At half time we were ahead by 2-10 to 0-1. Carrigaline had wind advantage in the second half, but we still dominated all over the field. All our subs got a run and the home side gained a few scores at this stage, but it didn’t change the result with a strong win for our boys. We wish to say thank you to Carrigaline for the welcome and the refreshments after the game, and we march on now to the final where we will play either Ballincollig or Mallow. Well done to all!
Final score Killeagh-Itas 3-11Carrigaline 1-4
Panel: Eoin Treacy, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Emmet Barron, Daniel Hickey, Cathal Deane, Kevin Murphy, Jack O’Rourke, Christopher Coughlan, Andrew Leahy, Keane Kelly-Budds, David Ogbebor, Aaron Walsh, Luke Fogarty, Killian Treacy, Fergal Smiddy, Shane Kearney, Fionn Mc Donnell, Jamie Clifford, Sean Walsh.

Fé 10 Parish Leagues – almost there!
The inclement weather didn’t quite stop us in our tracks on Saturday morning but slowed us a little. We were due to play our Fé 10 Parish League Football Semi-Finals and Finals in Páirc Uí Chinnéide, but given the awful weather, a little common sense prevailed and the programme was cut short, enabling us to play the semi-finals and defer the finals until Wednesday 26 October. In the ensuing semi-finals, Dara Motherway’s Yellow Team were stronger than Ryan McCarthy’s depleted Blue Team, while Olan Broderick’s Red Team were very impressive winners over Robert Sinclair’s Green Team. So on Wednesday we will play both A and B Finals simultaneously and try to beat both the clock and the weather. In the B Final it will be Ryan’s Blues v Robert’s Greens, while Dara’s Yellows take on Olan’s Reds in the A Final. Bígí ann, gach éinne, roimh a sé a chlog – we’ll be throwing in at 6.00 sharp, hopefully!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 09-10-2011

Fé 13 Hurling Championship
Itgreat to see our boys line out to contestsemi-final against old rivals Sarsfields on Saturday last in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. A very determined start saw us straight to business with Killian striking over a fine point for the opening score. We challenged every single ballevery position, despite thiswere able to pick off some fine points from play. A push forwardwith a point fromand Killian’s goal and pointed free gave us a much needed boost and saw us only four points down at the break .Sars started the second half with a point and continued to put pressure on us in every area. Weto battle but were unable to secure thescores and as this half wore on we saw our opponentsup the scores and at the final whistlewas Sarsfields who had progressed to the final. Final Score: Killeagh-Itas 1-4 Sarsfields 4-12. The Killeagh-Itas boys, though disappointed,be very proud of all their hard work and well donereaching this stage of the championship.
Panel: Luke Fogarty, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Kevin Murphy,Hickey, Fergal Smiddy, Emmet Barron, Jack O Rourke, Andrew Leahy, Christopher Coughlan, Jamie Landers, David Ogbebor, Aaron Walsh, Cathal Deane, Killian Treacy, Eoin Treacy, Keane Kelly-Budds, Sean Walsh, Shane Kearney, Jamie Clifford, Fionn Mc Donnell.

Fé 12 Parish Leagues
The focus in our Parish Leagues switched to football this weekend, and we had four very competitive games on Sunday morning. The Green Team, captained by Padraig McCarthy and managed by Adrian, had a double victory, beating Sean Walsh’s Red Team (managed by John) by 3-0 to 1-3 and overcoming Daniel Hickey’s Blue Team by 2-9 to 2-4. Earlier, the Blue Team, managed by Brinsley Mac, had pipped the Yellow Team captained by Sean Broderick and managed by Paudie on a scoreline of 3-6 to 3-2. The Yellows got some satisfaction in their second game by beating the Reds by 4-4 to 1-5. It’s all nicely poised now for the third round of games and finals on Sunday next, October 16, with all four teams still in the hunt.

Fé 8 Iomáint
Our Under 7’s and 8’s welcomed the young Magpies of Midleton to Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Saturday last. We had two very exciting games, with little between the teams in both games. Our boys showed great heart and skill, and got some lovely scores, to edge out our visitors in both games. Well done to all our buachaillí óga, and to our dedicated bainisteoirí Johnny and Adrian. The future is bright!
Note for all U-6’s, U-7’s and U-8s: Our final night of football for 2011 takes place on this Friday, October 14 at 5.30, where we will finish off our season with some mini-leagues and a bit of fun and games. Bígí ann!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 02-10-2011

Fé 12 Parish Leagues
It is Parish Leagues time again, and our Under 10, 11 and 12 boys were divided in to four teams for our Fé 12 Hurling leagues this past week. Our four captains Jamie Landers (Blue), Fionn McDonnell (Yellow), Dean Ward (Red) and Jamie Clifford (Green) led their teams into action, and after three round-robin games, the Greens and Yellows contested the B Final with Fionn’s team emerging victorious, while the Blue and Red teams contested the A Final. This was a cracking game, replicating their earlier round-robin meeting, with little between the sides all through. Dean was assisted by all-action play from Keane Kelly Budds and Richie Long, who did the bulk of the scoring along with Dara Motherway, who scored a peach of a goal in the closing stages of the final. Kieran Daly showed great hooking skill while Darragh O’Connor, Mark O’Callaghan, Cathal Fitzgibbon and Liam Hoogstad displayed admirable defensive and battling qualities. For the Blues, Jamie and Shane Kearney covered every blade of grass, while Barry Motherway and Robert Sinclair were dominant in defence and let little past them. James Kent was a brave goalkeeper, while up front Adrian Galvin, Ben Ingamells and George Sinclair all got on the scoresheet. David Kelly had to depart due to illness before the final but he too played his part, while Daniel Lucey was a solid replacement. The teams were level at half-time, but in the second half, crucial goals gave the Blues a slim lead which they held on to, winning eventually by 5-0 to 3-4. Well done to all four teams, and many thanks to all those who assisted with the leagues. Our four managers Adrian, Paudie, Colin and Brinsley had their teams well primed for action, while Ger Fitzgibbon and Ger Scully refereed effectively with quiet authority. Many thanks to our Cork U-21 star Brian Collins for turning up to give encouragement and to present the trophies – only nine years ago he was the winning captain of the Lagile Trophy, so it was very nice of him to return to present it to Jamie. It’s on to football now for the next few weeks, we hope the games are as competitive and enjoyable.

Fé 13 Hurling Championship
Our Under 13 hurlers, under the guidance of Alan, Declan and Ger, hosted St. Finbarr’s in Fé 13 Hurling Championship on Saturday last. In wet conditions, we outhurled our illustrious opponents and won on a scoreline of 4-9 to 2-3, to set up a semi-final clash with Sarsfields next weekend.
Panel: Luke Fogarty, Daniel Hickey, Kevin Murphy, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Jack O’Rourke, Emmett Barron, Fergal Smiddy, Christy Coughlan, Andrew Leahy, David Ogbebor, Eoin Treacy, Killian Treacy, Jamie Landers, Keane Kelly Budds, Shane Kearney, Fionn McDonnell, Sean Walsh.

Fé 16 Football Championship
This past week saw our Fé 16 footballers in Championship action, under the watchful eyes of Declan Fogarty, David Barry & Conor McNamara. Our opening round had us paired with Erins Own. We faced this game in Caherlag, under the bright lights, minus our usual goalie, Cillian (injured) plus a few more niggling injuries. Despite these setbacks, we pulled together and played as a unit. We witnessed some great football from both sides and we eventually reaped the rewards with a super win. Our next challenge was the Glanmire boys, played last Saturday in Castlemartyr under terrible weather conditions. Facing these boys minus a few players is a different story. Try as we might to battle against them and the weather elements, we were unable to make an impression, and Glanmire emerged victorious on the day. Well done to all involved and we look forward to 2012.

Sad news
An air of sadness permeated our parish on Friday evening last when news broke of the untimely death of Shelly Fennelly. Shelley, of the highly-respected Spillane family from Burgess who are known throughout the land in GAA, camogie and greyhound racing circles, was an accomplished camogie player with Killeagh in their halcyon days of the 1980’s. Shelley was also a loving wife to JJ and mother to Claire and Kevin, one of our young players, and a true supporter of the Killeagh GAA, Killeagh Camogie and Inch Rovers Ladies Football Clubs. The loss to the community is severe but the loss to her family is inestimable. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a anam.

Finally
Heartiest congratulations to Carrigtwohill on their historic win in the Cork County Senior Hurling Final on Sunday last. You have shown the way for every club in the county, and you are also bearing the fruits of sustained work done at under-age level in your club. May you enjoy many days and weeks of celebrations in the winter nights ahead!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 25-09-2011

Congratulations all round!
It was a good weekend for all followers of the ‘liathróid mór’ in the parish of Inch and Killeagh as divisional and national honours were garnered. First up on Saturday evening the Junior A Footballers of Glenbower Rovers made history by clinching the Ryan Cup for the first time ever, beating Lisgoold by 0-16 to 0-06 in the East Cork Junior A Football Final in Caherlag. Twenty three hours later, many of our parishioners had de-camped to Páirc an Chrócaigh where they cheered on Amy, Angela, Ann-Marie, Annie, Jessica and Claire as the Cork Rebelettes gamely hung on to defeat Monaghan by 2-7 to 0-11 and regained the Brendan Martin Cup which they had loaned to Dublin for the past 12 months. So well done to all those, male and female, young and not-so-young, who have contributed over the years, and particularly in the past thirty years, to promote Gaelic football in our parish – we are now reaping the rewards! A particularly pleasing weekend for the Walsh family with Angela adding ‘Player-of-the-Match’ to her sixth All-Ireland medal and Andy playing a key role for Glenbower Rovers on Saturday, while Noel ‘Dip’ O’Connor once again deserves huge praise for his trojan work with both clubs in our parish and also with the Cork ladies team. Now we only have two more challenges for our buachaillí agus cailíní – to win County titles in Senior ladies football and Junior A football championship. That’s a nice target now!

U-10’s go gallant in Gaultier
How apt then, that in this weekend of ‘big ball’ success, the latest seeds to continue this success were being sown in far-away Gaultier on the Dunmore East peninsula in South-East Waterford. Our Under 10’s had entered the Munster Towns Blitz which took place across all six Munster counties on Saturday last, and many heads were scratched and maps quickly consulted when we were informed that we were drawn to play in Gaultier. Where’s that? Well 23 players and a fair scatter of adults (thanks to the mums and dads and others who came to support) now would have no trouble telling anyone where the fine facilities of Gaultier Gaelic Football Club are located. Off we trooped early on Saturday morning, and on arrival we met our hosts Gaultier, as well as two clubs from South Tipperary – Clerihan and Kilsheelan-Kilcash (home club of David Power, manager of Tipperary Minor Footballers, All-Ireland Champions!) Our squad was split in to two teams, and each team played three games. The football was tough, hard and fair, and the skill levels were excellent from all teams. Ryan McCarthy and Liam Hoogstad ran themselves to a standstill for Tom’s team, while Robert Sinclair and Oisin McCarthy shone for Colin’s squad, which had the satisfaction of finishing with a very stylish win against our hosts. Well done to all our boys who did so well and a big thank you to Janet Cunningham and her hard-working team in Gaultier for their preparation and welcome. Our travelling mums were well impressed that there were so many men serving teas and sandwiches (a mighty spread!) – a lesson for our own planners and men!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 29-05-2011

So no joy for the Rebel Army on our trip to Tipp, but we came away with a renewed sense of hope. I think Barack Obama’s hurling expertise could come in handy now that Enda has given him the camán “Is féidir linn” shall replace “Gach Uile Liathróid” as the Cork hurlers’ mantra for 2011! Failing that, maybe “Ní féidir libh”, or “Thou Shalt Not Pass” might have to do!

Fé 10 Iomáint
It was a busy week for our Under 10 hurlers, with Cobh visiting us on Wednesday and then two panels of players heading to Ballyduff Upper for their festival of hurling at the weekend. The Cobh hurlers brought a panel of 19 on Wednesday evening, which matched our numbers perfectly, so we played one 10-a-side and one 9-a-side game. Both games were very even, with Cobh edging us out, making better use of the wind and being a little more accurate in front of goals. Then on Friday evening a late call-up enabled one panel, strengthened by some of our Under 9’s, to participate in Ballyduff’s festival of hurling where we played against the hosts, Ballygiblin and Kildorrery, where we hurled into the dark and the cool of the evening. On Saturday morning a different 12 made the trek to the banks of the Blackwater where we competed against Tramore, Cappoquin and St. Oliver’s. The sun shone and the hurling was mighty! We improved our skills and our knowledge of the geography of Co. Waterford and North Cork! Well done to Michael and your team in Ballyduff – it’s a feat of logistics where you can play 42 games with 28 teams in the course of one and a half days.

Fé 11 Peil
Our Under 11 panel made the short trek to Youghal on Friday evening to participate in the first round of the blitz series which will run for the summer months. We played Kiltha Óg, Fr. O’Neill’s and Youghal in three games, and improved greatly with each game. The scores flew under and over the bar with the small-sided games, with all our players excelling, from Andrew and Mark in the goals right up to Kieran and Richie up front. We also saw great teamwork and renewed confidence from our players, so well done boys. We are due to host the next round of this series, which will be a hurling blitz. It will probably take place on Friday June 10 but will be confirmed in the coming days. Team: Andrew Foley, Barry Motherway, Mark O’Callaghan, Dylan Hogan, Daragh Geary, Olan Hennessy, Kieran Daly, Jack Wyse, Adrian Galvin, Richie Long, James Kent

Fé 13 Iomáint
We hosted Sarsfields on Saturday morning last and had a fantastic game with them, just losing out by 2 points in the end, with very encouraging performances from the whole team. Signs of improvement are very obvious, boys, so keep up the good work!

The Trip to Tipp
The Under 12 panel, along with a few tag-alongs, headed from Páirc Uí Chinnéide to the other ‘Home of Hurling’ on Sunday last to add our voices to the ‘Rebel Roar’. After 55 minutes, we dared to dream as our young team had levelled with the All-Ireland Champions and had the wind at their backs, but the wind died, the Tipp men broadened their shoulders, and our brave team wilted under the savage pressure. No shame in defeat, though, when the performance did give us hope that we will manage to get to Croke Park in July or even August. Well done to all our boys who enjoyed the day and the gourmet food on the plinth in Cahir(!), and it’s nearly always a success when you come home with the same number that we left with! Thanks to Adrian for the weeks of organisation that went in to making it a success, and to our friendly bus driver Paul, who got us in under the shadow of Ardán Uí Coinneáin! We’ll be back!

U-10 Parish Hurling Leagues
We hope to begin our annual Under 10 Parish Leagues in hurling on Wednesday of next week, June 8. This is for all boys born in 2001, 2002 and 2003, and more details will follow. See you all there!

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 01-05-2011

Spring sun replaced by Summer rain, the Royals wed, and the Dubs in hurling heaven! Interesting times indeed!
Premier 2 Minor Hurling Championship.
On Thursday last our minor hurling squad, under the guidance of Seamus, Kieran & Tadhg headed to Cobh to contest our opening round of this years’ Minor Hurling Championship in the Premier 2 grade, against a fancied Na Piarsaigh (2) side, cheered on by a dedicated group of supporters.
At precisely 6.45p.m. we were blown into action and it was Matthew Murphy who registered our opening scores, converting two neat points. The Na Piarsaigh’s centre forward got the city side off the mark shortly afterwards. It was nip and tuck for the opening quarter, with both sides exchanging points, ours off the camáns of Allen Keniry, Kevin Hurley, Dave Cahill, and Colin Cunningham. Heading into the closing quarter of this half, we were a point to the good, 0-6 to 0-5. We increased our lead with some lovely points from Shane Mac, and with Matthew and Kevin coming to the fore again, the half time tally was 0-9 to 0-5 in our favour.
Both teams exchanged points in the opening minutes of the second half, and again it was Matthew who got us off the mark. We continued to apply the pressure and secured a further three points without reply from Ciaran O’Brien 0-1(free) and Matthew 0-2. Our lucky break came on the midway mark as Ian O’Brien connected to the long high ball sent in by Shane Mac and finished it to the Na Piarsaigh’s net; this was to be the only goal of the game. Matthew added to our tally with another converted free. The city boys replied with two points, but it was the Killeagh-Ita’s lads who finished stronger and tacked on a further three points, scored by Matthew, Shane and Dave. The boys in green had secured their place in the third round on a 1-17 to 0-10 score and the Black and Amber lads will contest the losers’ round in the hope of getting back into the Championship. Congrats and well done lads on a great performance and a word of praise for your mentors. We must not forget your team-mate Dylan, who was out there with you, even with one hand in plaster! May we take this opportunity to thank the Na Piarsaigh Club for accommodating us in changing this fixture and a word of thanks and praise to the Cobh club for having their grounds in ship shape on the night.

Fé 13 Hurling
We travelled to Castlelyons on Easter Monday for a challenge. The home side got stuck in from the beginning and got some lovely points from play. Our boys narrowed the gap with a great goal from Killian and points from Aaron and Andrew, leaving only a goal between the teams at half time. The second half saw the Killeagh-Ita's boys up the ante. Everyone dug deep and challenged for every single ball. We were rewarded with great scores from Aaron and Andrew again, and finished in style with a hat trick from Killian. This saw us run out comfortable winners in what was a very fast moving and entertaining game. Well done boys!
Team: Jamie Clifford, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Kevin Murphy, Luke Fogarty, Christopher Coughlan, Emmet Barron, Jack O’Rourke, Cathal Deane,Kelly-Budds, Fergal Smiddy, Killian Treacy, Aaron Walsh, Daniel Hickey, Andrew Leahy, Eoin Treacy, Shane Kearney, Fionn Mc Donnell, Sean Walsh.

Dick Barrett & Stephen Nolan
Congratulations to the Imokilly Fé 15 lads and their mentors who won the Dick Barrett Shield over the weekend and especially to our own Gaels, Gary Leahy, Eoghan Keniry, Darragh Cahill, Dan Smiddy, Padraig Walsh, Eoin O Connor, Colin Walsh and Bobby Mc Carthy. Also best of luck to the Fé 16 Imokilly lads who contested the Stephen Nolan (in the semi-finals, as we go to press) with Matthew Murphy (capt), Aidan Morrisson, Ian O’Brien and Shane McCarthy involved.
Fixtures: Wed 4 May Fé 13 Football Championship V Glenville in Killeagh @ 7.00 p.m. We play Passage in the next round on Saturday 7 at 3.00 in Killeagh if we win this game.

Congratulations to both our Junior A footballers, who secured their passage to the quarter finals with an exciting win over Erins Own, and to our Under 21 footballers who won the East Cork Final on Saturday last with a great victory over Carrigtwohill.

11-04-2011

All action this past week, at all grades. John Lennon, author of that famous phrase “life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans” must have been a closet GAA runaí, bainisteoir, or tuismitheoir!
Football Leagues
Fé 14
Our maroon clad lads of Fé 14 travelled to Kilmurray on Sunday evening where we quickly settled into the task in hand to contest round three of this year’s Fé 14 football league. Despite being short a few of our regular panel on this occasion, we held our own and plugged away. After a cracking opening half, with both sides playing their hearts out, we trailed at the short whistle by 3-6 to 2-4. However when the action resumed, we upped the pace and our defence got on top, while our midfield moved the ball quickly to our forwards, who secured the scores for us, thus closing the gap on our opponents. Alas, as the final whistle sounded, the minimum separated the sides, in favour of the home side: Kilmurray 3-9, Killeagh-Ita’s 3-8.
Fé 16
On Tuesday evening last our near neighbours, Kiltha Óg welcomed us to their grounds where we went on to play this league game, under the watchful eye of Gavin O’Brien. In a tense opening half, both sides were wide of the target on a few occasions, thus the low scoring tally at the break; four points apiece. The pattern continued into the second half, and the sides remained deadlocked after the opening quarter, having increased their tallies to seven piece. However this was to be the end for Killeagh-Ita’s as the Kiltha boys further increased their tally by four points without reply. They secured the league points on a 0-11 to 0-7 scoreline.
Fé 18
Our minors travelled to Inniscarra on Wednesday evening to take on the home side. Again we fought bravely to the death but alas failed to secure the league points by a three point margin.

Hurling Leagues
Fé 11 & Fé 12
These young lads were in action midweek with mixed fortunes. Our Fé12 lads were up against the Kiltha Óg boys in the Eastern Regional League and had a convincing win which greatly pleased the managers Adrian and Paudie. Our Fé 11’s travelled to Abbeyside to contest the opening round of the West Waterford league on a beautiful sunny Friday evening. This team have been graded A for this year’s league, paying for the success of last year’s team, and we were overpowered by a much stronger Abbeyside team, although we kept battling bravely to the end. Next Wednesday our Fé 12’s travel to Aghada while our Fé 11’s play Lismore in their next game.
Fé 15
Our Fé 15 lads went to the big smoke on Thursday evening last and bravely fought with the Glen Rovers boys on their home turf. This was an exciting game in which one had to be alert to tally the scores, as we saw some lovely long range points scored (30 in total). With both teams firing on all cylinders, this was a cliff hanger until the closing stages when the city boys claimed victory on a 3-17 to 2-13 scoreline.
Fé 18
On Sunday it was the turn of our minor hurling squad to travel the short distance to Aghavine to challenge the home side, Fr. O Neill’s, in the Premier 2 Hurling League. A fast paced opening half, with both sides enjoying high rewards from their penalty shooters, just left a goal between the sides at the short whistle in favour of the O Neill’s lads, 3-4 to 2-4. O Neill’s must have had the Red Bull at the break as they got wings in the second half; we faded into insignificance and failed to put it up to them, thus they ran out comfortable winners on a 6-8 to 2-6 tally.

Fé 10 peileadóirí hit the lights!
Perhaps the highlight of the week was the visit of our Fé 10 footballers to Páirc Uí Rinn on Wednesday evening last to watch Cork annihilate Kerry in the Cadbury U-21 Munster Football Final, and to take their own place under the lights as they played Fermoy in two exhibition games at half-time, in front of a crowd of over 6,000. What excitement, what an evening, and it gave us memories that will last a lifetime for these young boys and their proud parents! Everything ran smoothly all through, except someone decided to close the Jack Lynch Tunnel at 2000hrs, thereby delaying our return home. What would Jack, Christy and our own heroes of the past have thought of it all? Were those poor unfortunate Kerry players refused passage home at the County Bounds?

Congratulations & Best Wishes
We would like to congratulate the Imokilly Fé 16 Hurling squad who won the Gary Scollard Memorial Tournament over the weekend. These lads beat Limerick and West Waterford in their group games, thus qualifying for the final where the met their own Cork opponents of Seandún, who came through from their group. An all Cork Final saw the Eastern boys of Imokilly cruise to a 2-9 to 0-4 victory over the City boys. Our heartiest congrats go to the Imokilly captain, our own Matthew Murphy, and his fellow teammates, Shane McCarthy, Ian O’Brien and Aidan Morrisson. We are very proud of you lads, well done.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish the Rang 5 agus Rang 6 boys and girls of the parish every good wish as they receive the gift of Confirmation on Friday next.

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 04-04-2011

While our adult players were focused on the big ball this past week (well done to Glenbower Rovers for overcoming Glanmire in the Junior A Championship), hurling was the main game for our juvenile teams i rith na seachtaine. Mixed fortunes, but all playing, and learning as much from our defeats as our victories. We had no moratorium either for Mother’s Day! Who’s making the fixtures?

Fé 9 agus Fé 10 Iomáint Hurling League
Saturday last saw our young hurlers in action roimh agus tar éis loin. Our Under 10’s hosted two Fr. O’Neill’s teams in the morning, and got a bit of a lesson in the basics of the game – our visitors were better at picking, striking, blocking, hooking and ultimately at scoring! Good efforts from Daniel Lucey, Oisin McCarthy and Cian McDonald, but we’ve lots of homework to do boys! Get the hurleys out these fine long evenings, and brush up on those skills!
In contrast, our Under 9’s, supplemented by five Under 8’s, visited Youghal in the afternoon for their first games of the year, and came away with the spoils as we displayed lots of skill, determination and teamwork. We saw great performances from Robbie Treacy, Padraig Landers, Ciaran O’Rourke, Ben O’Connor, Christian Coughlan and young guns Jamie Fogarty and Aaron Fitzgibbon. Well done boys! You’ve to keep practising every day too, though!

Fé 13 Hurling League Killeagh-Ita’s 7 - 12 Mallow 5 – 6On Monday evening last, March 28, we played Mallow in our first league game of the season. We started well with Killian hitting over a free, followed by two excellent points from Andrew and we looked very up for the game. Mallow hit back with three unanswered points as our backs gave away unnecessary frees. Aaron took a great opportunist goal after a long delivery from Kevin was batted out by the keeper, only for Aaron to pounce. Killian hit over a lovely point from play but Mallow responded and struck for their first goal after poor defensive play from our full back line. After good work in our half forward line the sliotar was delivered to Andrew who kicked it to the net and Killian hit over another point straight afterwards to put us in the driving seat . Hard work by Andrew resulted in him being fouled in the square for a penalty that Killian hit over. Mallow hit back again with a goal but Andrew rattled the net again just before half time, leaving us ahead on a score line of 3-6 to 2-3 at half time. Eoin Treacy in goals, Emmet, Christy, Fergal, Killian and Andrew were the best for Killeagh-Ita’s in the first half.
Mallow started the second half well getting their opening point from a free. Mallow’s centre forward was causing us all sorts of trouble. We decided to move Christy to centre back doing a man marking job on the centre forward. This move worked wonders as Christy got the better of the Mallow danger man. Killian hit over two points from frees and then a goal from a long range free went straight to the net to put us comfortably ahead. Mallow never gave up and hit over a point followed by a goal. Young Seán Walsh got a good goal and the game was over as a contest from there on, as Killeagh-Ita’s powered home from that point.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome David Ogbebor to the Killeagh-Ita’s club, as he played his first of what we hope will be many games to come in the green and white jersey.
Emmett Barron was outstanding in the backs and Killian Treacy was clearly the man of the match. Christy, Emmet, Jack, Fergal, Killian, and Andrew also played very well.
Team: Eoin Treacy, Luke Fogarty, Kevin Murphy, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Emmet Barron, Cathal Deane, Jack O Rourke, Christy Coughlan, Keane Budds, Jamie Landers, Killian Treacy (2-9), Fergal Smiddy, Fionn McDonnell, Andrew Leahy (3-2), Aaron Walsh (1-0). Subs: Dean Ward, Shane Kearney, David Ogbebor, Jamie Clifford, Sean Walsh (1-0).

Fé 16 Peil.
Travelling to the Pike field in Glanmire on Tuesday evening last, minus a few key players, we took on the challenge of the home side in our opening round of this year’s fé 16 football league. The home side got off the mark quickly with two points to their credit, before Matthew Murphy registered our opening point from a well taken free, followed closely by another from play. The sides were level after fourteen minutes but Glanmire then took control throughout the field of play and secured the scores on the board, with little reply from ourselves, except a point from an Ian O’Brien free. The half time tally was 1-5 to 0-3 in favour of the home side. Glanmire continued to prove too strong for us in the second half, and as they kicked some long range points, they edged a little too far ahead of us. Despite that, we fought well to the best of our ability. Glanmire took the league points as the final whistle sounded, with the final score being 2-13 to 1-7.

Minor Hurling League (Premier 2)
Saturday last, at high noon, the young men from Kiltha Óg graced our pitch for this league game. Blown into action by Cathal, we got underway. Short a few regulars, we set about the task in hand. Kiltha dominated the score board with some lovely long range points in this opening half, fourteen in all, but despite that we kept in close range as we secured three goals and two lovely points. The half way check of the little black book read Kiltha Óg 0-14, Killeagh-Ita’s 3-2. Despite losing Daniel Walsh mid way through the second half, we plugged on but failed to overcome a sharper Kiltha side, who secured the league points.

Fé 14 Iomáint Féile na nGael
On Tuesday last in Páirc Ui Chaoimh the excitement was electric as the draws took place for this year’s Féile na Gael. Ears peeled and pens at the ready, we waited anxiously for our opponents. Finally we were drawn from the cup with the Blarney boys. Fixture set for 4.00 p.m. on Sunday evening, we travelled to the well maintained grounds in the picturesque village of Blarney to meet and challenge our hosts. The opening half was a tit for tat process, with the teams level on three occasions as both held the lead at various times. This was a low scoring half as both defences stood firm, and our reiteoir had only four points recorded for both teams as he blew the half time whistle. The teams remained deadlocked at four points each after fifteen minutes of hard fought play in the second half. In the closing quarter it was the Blarney boys who increased their tally by two points, but we pegged back one from the stick of Dan Landers. At this stage the home side upped the ante and secured a further four points without reply from the Killeagh-Ita’s boys, not from the want of trying though. Dan secured another for us, but with four minutes remaining and trailing by four points, the inevitable happened. Blarney scored the only goal of the game, which put the game beyond our reach. Blarney sensed victory in sight and secured a further two points. They now advance to round two of the Féile on a 1-11 to 0-6 tally, where they will play host to Fr. O’Neill’s next weekend. We wish both teams every success.

Heading to Páirc Uí Rinn!

Our Fé 10 footballers got great news on Saturday when they learned of their impending appearance in Páirc Uí Rinn. Cén fáth? Cork and Kerry will play on this Wednesday evening in the Cadbury Munster U-21 Football Final, and we have been invited to play exhibition games at half-time against Fermoy. The bus is running and ready to go. We hope that some of our boys will take heed of those apocryphal words allegedly uttered by the legendary Danno Kennedy to the equally legendary but then very young Joe Deane on a trip to Semple Stadium: “ we’re not bringing you just for a look around”! Tune in next week for the details.

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 28-03-2011

Nach raibh an aimsir go h-álainn i rith na seachtaine seo caite! Mighty weather for hurling, footballing and fresh cut grass. And now with the prospect of bright evening for the next 6 months, we have nothing to be complaining about! Conas ar eirigh leis ár mbuachaillí? Seo iad na scéalta.

Fé 10 Peil
Our 22 U-10 footballers beat the clock and made it to Cobh for 1100hrs BST on Sunday morning last, for a most enjoyable morning of football. We followed the successful format of each fielding 2 teams, with each of our teams playing each of the opposition teams in two 25 minute games. The sun was shining, the ball was bouncing, and we saw lots of tackling, lovely soloing, teamwork and points and goals a-plenty from all four teams. Honours ended evenly, with Dan Beechinor (fantastic catch), Karl O’Toole (brilliant interception and blockdown) and Owen Cosgrove (busy and hungry all through) catching the eye for our teams. In truth, all 22 played really well, and the work done over the past 12 months is now starting to show on the pitch. Well done boys!

Fé 14 Iomáint
The Fé 14 hurling league commenced on Sunday March 27 with a difficult trip to Inniscarra. This proved to be a tight encounter with very little between the sides from start to finish. Killeagh-Ita’s started brightly with a point from Andrew Leahy in the first minute. This was added to with a point from Dan Landers on 8 minutes. The home side struck for the next 2 scores including a goal to take the lead. Cathal Deane, who was playing well at wing back, was injured after 25 minutes and had to be replaced by Luke Fogarty. This setback did not deter the Killeagh-Ita’s boys who hit 3 unanswered points before half time to lead at the break on a score line of 0-05 to 1-01. The second half was equally well contested with both sides swapping scores. Dan Landers proved to be the chief tormentor with another 4 points including 1 very well taken score following great teamwork involving Killian Treacy and Mikey O’Sullivan. However Inniscarra were never out of it and a 21 yard free could have put them level but for an excellent save by Darragh O’Brien. The backs, most notably Corey Broderick and Kevin Murphy, along with Sam Desmond and Killian Treacy in midfield worked hard to protect our slender lead in the last 10 minutes. The insurance score came from the stick of Jack O’Rourke after an excellent run and pass by Mikey O’Sullivan. The final whistle sounded shortly after this to leave Killeagh-Ita’s winners by 0-12 to 1-05. This was a tough opening to our league campaign but everyone worked hard to ensure we got off to a winning start. Next up we face a trip to Blarney on Sunday 3 April to take on the locals in the first round of qualifying for Féile 2011 hurling, with the reward for the winners being a home tie against Fr. O’Neills the following weekend. Go n-eirí libh!

Fé 15 Iomáint League
We crossed swords with our local rivals Midleton last Saturday in this league game. Our “Dan the Man(s)”, Smiddy and Landers got us off to a brilliant start on home soil with four sweet points (2 each) in the opening minutes. Midleton registered their opening points from a well taken free, followed by a nice shot from the wing. Eoghan Keniry’s luck was in on the day as he stepped up to take a long range free and after striking beautifully it sailed to the back of the Midleton net. We further increased our tally with points from Gary and Padraig before Eoghan struck for his second goal of the game. We were dominating play now and increased our lead by securing a further 1-3, before Midleton upped their game and fought back with 1-3 of their own. The ref recorded a further four points to two in our favour before he closed the little black book and blew the half time whistle, registering a 3-11 to 1-6 scoreline. The opening twenty minutes of the second half were nip and tuck with both teams defending well and displaying the finer elements of the game. Both teams added 1-3 each to their credit. In the closing ten minutes, we secured a further five beauties from our forwards, leaving the field of play with a tally of 4-19 to 2-9, plus the league points in the bag, as the man in black sounded the feadóg for the final time.

Fé 18 Iomáint
Our minor squad faced Cumann Cluain Uamha in a challenge on Sunday evening last. The Sunday roast was well digested as these young men took the field of play and served up a tough hard-fought game. Matthew Murphy took the limelight in the opening stages as he slotted over our first three points. Cloyne got off the mark and on the scoreboard after converting their opening two frees, but these were to be their only scores of this half. We hurled well in the closing quarter, with Kevin Hurley adding 1-1 to our tally and two further points, one each from Dinny Walsh and again Matthew, leaving it 1-6 to 0-2 in our favour as the short whistle sounded. The second half lost a little tempo but both teams plugged on and exchanged points in a tit for tat fashion, with the boys in green keeping their noses in front as Cloyne fought back with some well executed points. Goal number two came for us in the closing minutes which gave us a little breathing space and the momentum to finish out in style with a 2-10 to 0-11 tally.

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 14-03-2011

It really was a case of four seasons in one weekend this weekend past, with the biting Arctic wind and rain testing all those out on Saturday, particularly in the forenoon, only to be followed by beautiful sunshine and clear skies for most of Sunday. Our Under 14 team saw both hurling and football action this weekend, and also clocked up a fair few miles in the process. If that Government jet is going to be less in demand now that Enda and Eamonn are in charge, perhaps they might lease it to us for our long-haul travels in 2011!

Fé 14 Iomáint:
Our Fé 14 hurlers travelled to Lismore to take part in a blitz organised by the West Waterford club on Saturday 12 March. Our first game pitted Killeagh-Ita’s against the host team who proved to be too strong for us on this occasion. In our 2 match we came up against a fellow East Cork team in the form of Carrigtwohill. After a lively encounter on a pitch made difficult by the overnight rain the scores finished level in this game. Unfortunately however a draw was not enough and we were eliminated at this point by virtue of scoring difference. Many thanks go to the Lismore club for hosting this competition.

Fé 14 Peil:
Our Fé 14 footballers made the long journey to Macroom on Sunday 13 March to play our 2 league match of the season. The hosts got off to a flying start against the wind and a flurry of points put them 5 clear after 10 minutes of play. Killeagh-Ita’s rallied at this stage and came more into the game and were rewarded with 1-02 to get back on level terms for a short spell. The home team pushed on however to lead at half time on a score line of 2-06 to 2-03. The second half started with a bang as Killeagh-Ita’s won the ball direct from the throw in and worked it up the field to score a great goal to bring the scores level again. Hopes that this score would enable the lads to take a grip of the game were short lived as Macroom went straight down the field to goal at the other end. Macroom added to this with further well taken scores and with the wind behind them dominated the rest of the game to run out winners on a score of 6-16 to Killeagh-Ita’s 5-05. Our next Fé 14 Peil league game is scheduled for next Thursday (St. Patrick’s Day) away to Sliabh Rua at 11.30am. Sincere thanks go to all of the parents who travelled to both Lismore and Macroom this weekend to ensure that we had players (and great support) available for all fixtures. We will be due to get a run of games at home soon which should ease the travel burden.

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 28-02-2011

This has been a busy, busy weekend of football fixtures, with our Minors, Fe 15, 14 and 13’s all in action.

Fé 14 Peil:
Our Fé 14 footballers opened their league campaign on Friday night last (25) with a visit to Carrigaline. Despite the heavy rain Killeagh-Ita’s got off to a dream start with a well finished goal by corner forward Jack O’Rourke after 2 minutes. Sam Desmond and Darragh O’Brien added points soon after as the boys took control of the game. On 10 minutes a well worked move down the right wing ended with Jack Merkushev scoring a great goal. Further points by Sam Desmond and Aaron Walsh left the half time score 2.04 to 0.00 in favour of Killeagh-Ita’s. Carrigaline came at us at the start of the second half and were rewarded with a fine goal for their efforts. Despite this the boys added to their tally with fine scores including goals for Cathal Deane and Darragh O Brien. The final score of the game was an expertly taken point by Jack O’Rourke. All in all, this was a good performance, with Christy Coughlan proving to be a safe pair of hands in goal. Further out Dan Landers and Eoin Fitzgibbon were outstanding in the half back line. Darragh O Brien worked tirelessly in midfield while Sam Desmond, Cathal Deane and Aaron Walsh played well in the forwards. At the final whistle, we peeled off our sodden jerseys, dried off and returned home with the league points. Final score: Carrigaline 1-00; Killeagh Ita’s 4-07.

Fé 18 Peil:
Pilmore was the venue for our Saturday games (Minors & Fé 15’s). Our Minors were first up against the St. Michael’s lads. This turned out to be a game of two halves as again the weather played a big part. St. Michael’s opted to play with the extra man, (the wind!) in the opening half, cruised into an early lead and had secured a 1-10 lead at the break, leaving us to yet register a score and with a fight on our hands. With the wind now wearing the green jersey we set about pegging back their lead. We took control of this game and kept the ball in our opposition’s half, securing some fine scores. We slowly ate into their lead, and managed to come within a point of it, securing 2-6 in this half and holding our visitors scoreless, but alas it was not enough as the final whistle sounded a little too soon for us. St. Michael’s took the spoils by the minimum, 1-10 to 2-6.

Fé 15 Peil:
Our Fé 15 lads took to the sod at 4.15 p.m, this time welcoming the city boys of St Vincent’s. The opening half was closely contested with the defence standing firm for both teams and scores hard to pick off, thus the 0-2 to 0-1 scoreline at the half time break. On the resumption we got a blistering start with two quick goals, this settled us and set us up for a great finish, which we executed in fine style, tapping over some lovely points (4) and again finding the St Vincent’s net and holding our opposition to just one point in this closing half. A 3-6 to 0-2 victory was recorded for the Killleagh-Ita’s boys.

Fé 13 Football:
On Sunday morning last, February 27, our Fé 13 footballers played their opening game of the season when they travelled to the Glen Rovers complex to play St. Nicholas in a league fixture. Despite being short of a number of regulars and playing the entire game with only fourteen players the boys proved to be far too strong for the home side and came away with a comfortable victory. Well done lads!

Fé 14 Iomáint:
On Saturday 19 last, we travelled to Carrigeen, Co. Kilkenny to play John Locke’s of Callan in our second game of this 8-a-side all-weather pitch competition. After our good performance in the opening game we were brought back down to earth with a bang. The Kilkenny side swept into a commanding lead right from the throw in and went on to dominate the game. Were it not for the excellence of Darren Cusack in our goal the half time score could have been much worse. On the resumption we played much better and can take some pride from the manner in which we approached the second half. Final score: John Lockes 12-09; Killeagh-Ita’s 5-02.

Sunday 26 saw us return to Carrigeen to play our final game against yet another Kilkenny side. This time the boys from Glenmore lay in wait. This game was a much more competitive affair than our last visit with scores coming thick and fast. The game was in the balance until the final 5 minutes when the Kilkenny side grabbed 3-03 to put the game beyond our reach. Final score in this one was Glenmore 9-11, Killeagh-Ita’s 4-05. Best for Killeagh-Ita’s in this one were Darragh O’Brien, who was outstanding at full back, and who was ably supported by Corey Broderick in the corner. Up front big Dan Landers was a constant threat while Sam Desmond supported well from midfield. Many thanks to all parents and supporters who made the journey over the last three weekends to cheer on the lads. Thanks also to Hilary and the Carrigeen club for their hospitality.

Indoor Hurling League concludes
Our six week session of U-12 hurling leagues concluded last Monday evening with all 8 teams playing their final game. Alec Fitzgerald and Cathal Mariga captained the Yellows 2 and Greens 1 teams respectively, who contested the final game, as their teams had won their sections on the penultimate night. In a cracking game, Richie Long and Paul Delaney led the scoring for the Yellow team, while Alec manned the defence admirably. Keane Kelly Budds, Dylan Hogan and Owen Cosgrove battled gamely for the Greens, but they were fairly beaten on a scoreline of 15 goals to 9 at the final whistle. Thanks to all the boys who participated in the league over the past 6 weeks – it is heartening to watch the gradual improvement in touch, confidence and contesting in all the boys. Many thanks also to all those who helped each night, and in particular to our referees Adrian, Colin and John, and to Ursula for overseeing that operations ran smoothly each evening.
Scores of final round games:
Greens 2 (Jamie Clifford) 15; Blues 1 (Sean Walsh) 7.
Reds 2 (Sean Broderick) 15; Yellows 1 (Jamie Landers) 13.
Blues 2 (Fionn McDonnell) 14; Reds 1 (Liam Mariga) 9.
Yellows 2 (Alec Fitzgerald) 15; Greens 1 (Cathal Mariga) 9.

Congratulations
Our Fé 10 coach John Irwin was absent for training on Saturday last, which is most unlike him. However, he had a good excuse as John became a dad for the first time on the previous day. We would like to send heartiest congratulations to John and to Niamh on the arrival of baby Seán, who will be starring for the Killeagh-Ita’s Fé 10 team in 2021, no doubt!

Upcoming fixtures
Saturday next, March 5: Minor Football and Fe 13 football league games, both v Inniscarra in Inniscarra at 1.45p.m.; Fé 15 Football League v Mayfield in Mayfield at 4pm.

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 14-02-2011

Fé 14 Hurling and Football Update

Our Fé 14 hurlers and footballers have been back in training since January 9 and both teams now have one game each under their belts.

On Tuesday February 1 our footballers travelled to play our Déise neighbours Cois Bhríde in a friendly match played under lights in Tallow. Despite a good start where we dominated possession but failed to take our scores it was the home side that took their chances and ran into an early lead with 3 quick-fire goals. Our second half performance was much improved and with good teamwork our lads created some well taken scores but on the balance of play the home side deserved their victory.
Final score: Cois Bhríde 4-9; Killeagh-Ita’s 1-5.

Our hurlers’ first taste of action came on Saturday February 12 when we travelled to South Kilkenny to take part in the opening round of the 2011 Carrigeen Fé 14 tournament. Given that our Fé 12’s had recently won the 2010 final of this competition expectations were high that the Fé 14’s would keep the Killeagh-Ita’s flag flying proudly. Our opponents on the day were Ballyhale Shamrocks. Our boys got into the game quickly and with the strengthening wind behind them played some excellent hurling to lead at half time by 5-7 to 0-4. The goals came from scorer in chief Dan Landers while Jack Merkushev also chipped in with 2 good points.
On the turnover Ballyhale came back at us and scored 2 early goals. However our boys settled in to their rhythm again and ran out comfortable winners in the end with further goals from Dan Landers, James O’Connor and Sam Desmond. This was a good all round team performance by the lads as we look to build for the year ahead.
Final Score: Killeagh-Ita’s 11-10; Ballyhale Shamrocks 4-5.

Fé 12 Indoor Hurling
We have been hurling away in Youghal GAA’s fine indoor hall for the past 5 Mondays, and even though some of the adults got better offers for Valentine’s Night, we still managed to keep the show on the road! The standard of hurling and the excitement in the games have been on a steady upward curve from Week 1 to Week 5, with the leagues due to finish on Monday evening next, February 21. The captains of the teams are Liam Mariga, Cathal Mariga, Sean Walsh and Dean Ward in Group 1, and Sean Broderick, Jamie Clifford, Fionn McDonnell and Alec Fitzgerald in Group 2. This indoor league gives a great platform for all our players to begin their season, with the skills now transferring on to the green grass and muddy patches of our outdoor pitches.

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA notes for 07-02-2011

“Anois teacht an Earraigh” – well Brian Cowen stole my lines this time – you know the rest! All our Juvenile teams are well and truly back up and running now, with both indoor and outdoor activity in full swing. Darkness and howling wind and rain didn’t deter some of our braver souls from facing the elements either. It’s a good omen when young fellas are ‘up for action’ in these testing conditions!

Registration Day
We held a very successful Registration Day on Saturday last February 5. Our pavilion was buzzing with young folk and their parents, with over 100 in total signing up for the coming year. Meanwhile, downstairs, our Club Shop, manned by Mary and Aoife, was doing a roaring trade as players and adults stocked up on their 2011 clothing. Well done to Ursula and her team of helpers (Derry, Caroline, Karen, Helen and anyone else I’ve omitted) and to the Juvenile Committee for organising such a successful event. Congratulations to Padraig Mackey who won the €50 Club Shop voucher, and to Dara Motherway and David Scully who won Beanie hats in the free draw for all paid-up members. Prizes can be collected from Ursula at Coleman’s shop.

Lost!
A black tracksuit jacket with the Imokilly crest and 2010 inscribed on it was lost by one of our U-16 players on a training run in Glenbower Wood in recent days. If anyone happens to find it, please hand it to Ursula in Coleman’s shop, or to any club officer, as it has both real and sentimental value for its owner.

U12 Hurling Carrigeen Hurling Tournament Final
Killeagh-Ita’s 6 – 6 James Stephens 5 – 8
On a freezing cold Sunday afternoon, the last of this winter, we travelled to Carrigeen in Kilkenny for the final of this ten a side hurling final against James Stephens of Kilkenny. Great credit must go to both clubs and to parents for getting this final played as it was cancelled three times at short notice due to snow and frost.
Killeagh-Ita’s flew out of the starting blocks and Cathal Deane scored a great goal in the first minute. Andrew Leahy added another goal on four minutes to give Killeagh-Ita’s a great start. James Stephens finally came to life with a point, followed by another on eight minutes. Andrew Leahy struck for his second goal on the tenth minute following great work from Emmet Barron. Eoin Fitzgibbon, Christy Coughlan and Cathal Deane had a very good opening ten minutes in the middle of the field that contributed to Killeagh-Ita’s good start. As we all know only too well, a Kilkenny team like James Stephens were not going to get outgunned in their own county. James Stephens came roaring back into the game. A point from a free was followed by two cracking goals and two more points from frees. At this stage we were under an onslaught from the James Stephens boys and only for the brilliance of Aaron Walsh in goals things could have been a lot worse. Luke Fogarty, Kevin Murphy and the excellent Jack O’ Rourke were under immense pressure in the full back line. They battled like tigers against an excellent James Stephens full forward line. However on the twentieth minute James Stephens rattled the net and did it again three minutes later to extend their lead. Killeagh-Ita’s now introduced the very young Keane Budds and Daniel Hickey. This move gave Killeagh-Ita’s some fresh legs and Cathal Deane scored a great goal on the twenty second minute. But James Stephens finished the first half much stronger and added a goal and two points before the half time whistle sounded. An scór ag leath am: Killeagh-Ita’s 4-0 James Stephens 5- 7.
Management had to put their heads together and see how they could turn a ten point lead around. A few home truths had to be told to the players and the switching of Andrew Leahy to the middle of the field and Cathal Deane to full forward was decided. Killeagh-Ita’s started the second half brightly with Andrew using his physical strength to great effect in midfield. He scored a brilliant goal in the first minute. Kevin Murphy finally got the better of the James Stephens full forward and with Jack O’ Rourke flying on his left side we now looked much more in control at the back. Christy and Keane were now flying it at midfield and our Captain Killian Treacy and Daniel Hickey came to life in their corners. Keane Budds struck for an excellent goal on the fifth minute followed by a great long distance point from Andrew. Andrew hit over a long range free before James Stephens got their first score in the second half. Emmet Baron came back on to his best position, corner back to great effect, and our full back line was now unbeatable as they just kept clearing ball after ball. Killian hit over a beauty of a point from play and we then introduced Fergal Smiddy to corner forward. James Stephens’ number four had being playing a blinder up to now, but Fergal got stuck into him and they had a mighty battle in which Fergal came out on top. Three minutes left on the clock and two points down the Killeagh-Ita’s lads had to dig deep and they did. A free was awarded to the excellent Killian Treacy which he expertly converted to leave just one point in it. It was all Killeagh-Ita’s now as James Stephens were stunned. Andrew was fouled and Killian struck the ball over the bar to level things up with one minute left. Cathal Deane and Eoin Fitzgibbon were on fire now after a break on the sideline, and we managed to win a free. Killian stepped up to take a free he would normally put over in his sleep, but now it was so different as the pressure was on. Playing the captain’s part he drilled it over. Now in injury time it was backs to walls and James Stephens came at us with everything they had, but the outstanding Kevin Murphy stood tallest and was not going to be beaten. Christy made two of the most important clearances of his life and the final whistle was blown, heralding a famous victory for the Killeagh-Ita’s Club. Jack O’ Rourke gave an outstanding man of the match performance (maybe it was the telling off he got before hand for forgetting his boots).
This team trained very hard all winter for this tournament and they got their rewards on the day. This final was of the highest standard and we will be very disappointed if we don’t a hear lot more of the players from both sides in years to come. A great start to the year, not just the victory but the way they won. When faced with being ten points down at half time many twelve year olds would have thrown in the towel. Thankfully not our lads, they have been well behind in games before and always seem to find that fighting spirit when needed. You made us proud lads! Bring on 2011.
Team: Aaron Walsh, Luke Fogarty, Kevin Murphy 0 -1, Jack O’ Rourke, Christy Coughlan, Cathal Deane 2-0, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Killian Treacy 0-4, Emmet Baron, Andrew Leahy 3-1, Eoin Treacy, Fergal Smiddy, Daniel Hickey and Keane Budds 1-0.

2010

Congratulations to Inch Rovers - Ladies Football All-Ireland Senior Club Champions
Twenty six years after the club’s humble beginnings, under Willie O’Neill’s initiative, Inch Rovers are All-Ireland Senior Club Ladies Football Champions – the best Ladies Football club team in the universe! What a proud day December 12 2010 was for the supporters and followers, family members, but most particularly for the team members themselves who battled gamely against double champions Carnacon to secure this most coveted title. Noel O’ Connor, you are a hero to many by virtue of your great deeds. You, your management team, and your players are an inspiration to all involved in sport, and we in Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA Club salute you. Well done to you all!

U-12 Hurling in Mid-Winter
We have been travelling to Kilkenny over the past few weekends playing the qualifying rounds in this hugely successful 10-a-side all-weather invitational hurling tournament in Carrigeen, Co Kilkenny. The best clubs from all over Ireland are invited to this tournament and it is an honour alone to be playing against such famous clubs. We came through the qualifiers after some great battles. Our game against St John’s from Belfast was a game we will never forget. This was a very physical encounter, and it took us a while to get to grips with a very well trained St John’s team. With five minutes remaining we were five points down, but this team and management does not like losing and had to dig very deep in to the reserves to get two goals and win the game by one point, on a scoreline of Killeagh-Ita’s 7 – 1; St John’s 4 - 9. One can’t but mention the brilliance of Aaron Walsh in goals, this was Aaron’s first time playing in goals, but he looked like he played there all his life.

Semi Final :Killeagh Itas 8 – 4 O’Loughlin Gaels 3 – 8 (Kilkenny)
This weekend we faced none other than the mighty O’Loughlin Gaels from Kilkenny in the semi-final. Our opponents were fast out of starting blocks and had two points on the score board in the first five minutes. Cathal Deane had to be withdrawn after six minutes due to illness, which was a huge blow to the Killeagh-Ita’s team. Our captain Killian Treacy pounced to score a great goal on eight minutes. Killian was nursing a knee injury for the last two weeks and deserves great credit for playing. Once we got our noses in front we never looked back. Killian added another point and then the mighty Andrew Leahy struck for the first of his five goals on the twelfth minute. O’Loughlin Gaels struck back with a goal and two points. Daniel Hickey got a great goal on the eighteenth minute. Daniel is one of our two eleven year olds on the panel (the other being Keane Budds), Daniel may be small but he has the heart of a lion, the bigger the opponent the better for Daniel. Killian hit a free straight to the net and Andrew buried his second goal just before half time. Aaron Wash was again excellent in goal, Kevin Murphy was a rock at full back and Luke was excellent at corner back. Christy Coughlan, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Fergal Smiddy and Keane Budds all worked hard in turn in midfield. Emmett Barron was very effective at full forward, breaking the ball for sharp shooters Killian and Andrew. At half time we led by 5 – 1 to 1 – 4.
O’Loughlin Gaels came storming back at us in the second half, scoring a goal and two points. Jack O’ Rourke was now excelling at corner back , while Aaron again stood tall in goals as O’Loughlin Gaels threw everything at us. Andrew again popped up for us on the eighth minute knocking over a point followed by a cracking goal. Killian fired over a point twelve minutes in, while Cathal overcame his illness and came back on with fifteen minutes to go. This was a huge lift to the team and he played a blinder for the rest of the game. Eoin Treacy shifted some great balls to our forwards and Andrew hit home another goal twenty minutes in. Killian was now in real pain and limping badly and had to be withdrawn. Killian was a huge loss but he had played his part in scoring 2 - 3 . O’Loughlin Gaels never gave up and scored another goal and two points before Cathal hit over a sweet point. Andrew banged in his fifth goal at the death for a great victory. Our game against St John’s really stood to us on the night as we were much better prepared than we had been in the earlier rounds. This team has improved all season and have really toughened up together as a team and are now proving very hard to beat.
Team: Aaron Walsh, Luke Fogarty, Kevin Murphy, Jack O Rourke, Christy Coughlan, Cathal Deane 0 - 1, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Andrew Leahy 5 - 1, Emmett Barron, Killian Treacy (capt) 2 - 3,Eoin Treacy, Fergal Smiddy, Keane Budds, and Daniel Hickey 1- 0.
We are now in the final against James Stephens from Kilkenny, another powerhouse in hurling, and we just can’t wait to have a crack off them.

Sam visits Killeagh
On Tuesday last Sam Maguire paid a visit to the four schools of the parish, and got a great reception in each school. Thanks to Ursula, Paudie and Sean for chaperoning Sam, and we hope that he will return, along with his friend Liam, to all our schools again this time next year!
Juvenile AGM Thursday 25 8.00 p.m.
The AGM of Killeagh-Ita’s Juevenile GAA Club will take place on this Thursday November 25 at 8.00p.m., upstairs in our new pavilion in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. We are asking all parents of young players to attend this AGM if possible to hear about our activities of the past year, and to plan for an even better 2011. Bígí ann, gach éinne!

Help!
In 2008, our Under 12 hurlers won the prestigious Jack Lynch Cup, a replica of the Liam McCarthy Cup, in the annual Na Piarsaigh tournament. So what, you ask? Well, the cup is missing, last seen in Killeagh Hall sometime around the end of 2008. Someone, somewhere, may be able to delve into their grey matter and recall something about this cup. If you can throw any light on the mystery, please contact Ursula, Ray or any other committee member.

Juvenile End of Year Party
On Saturday December 4, we hold our End of Year party in our new pavilion in Páirc Uí Chinnéide, from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. This is for all boys from Under 12 down who played with us this year. We will have medals for some, and entertainment for all. Invitations will follow, but for now, note the date and time.

U-10 Hurling Parish Leagues conclude an exciting season
On Sunday last, following the torrential rain of the previous day, our Under 8, 9 and 10 hurlers took to the field for the final time in 2010 as we played our Parish League Hurling semi-finals and finals. We had four very exciting games, and required extra time in the A Final before we got a result. In the semi-finals, Richie Long’s Yellow team defeated Adrian Galvin’s Red team by 3 goals, while Barry Motherway’s Green team held a slender 2 point lead over Dylan Hogan’s Blue team when the final whistle blew. So the A Final pitted the Greens against the undefeated Yellow team, while the B final saw the Reds play the Blues. Both were exciting affairs, with Dylan Hogan’s Blue team edging out the Red team on a scoreline of 2-2 to 2-0, with Paul Kent scoring the crucial goal, in the B final. In the A final, both teams played to a standstill and at the end of normal time the teams were level at 1-1 each. 5 minutes extra time was played, and Owen Cosgrove proved the hero for the Yellow team with a goal that gave his team victory by 2-1 to 1-1, and the prestigious U-10 Hurling trophy to his proud captain Richie Long. Congratulations to all those who took part in this league over the past month – the standard of hurling and effort was exceptional for this time of year. Many thanks to our referees Tadhg, Dylan and Dermot, and to our bainisteoirí Donie, Ger, John and Alan. This concludes our outdoor hurling and football for 2010, and indeed it was a busy season. Our Under 8’s continue indoors in Killeagh for another 4 weeks on Tuesdays, while our Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s have 4 more weeks on Monday evenings in Youghal before the season’s end.

The following are the teams that played in this year’s U-10 Hurling League:
Reds: Adrian Galvin, Padraig Leahy, Karl O’Toole, Ryan McCarthy, Oisin McCarthy, Patrick Barry, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Daniel Lucey, Ciaran Leahy, Killian Lackey, Ben Jennings
Blues: Dylan Hogan, Andrew Foley, Jack Wyse, Liam Hoogstad, Paul Delaney, Patrick Harty, Ben Ingamells, Dara Motherway, Robbie Treacy, Paul Kent, Brian Murphy, Daniel Doherty
Greens: Barry Motherway, Darragh Geary, Mark O’Callaghan, Danny Cunningham, Cian McDonald, Jonathan Guerin, Olan Broderick, Ben O’Connor, Padraig Landers, Ryan Farquhar, Christian Coughlan
Yellows: Richie Long, Kieran Daly, James Kent, Robert Sinclair, David Kelly, Richie Landers, Darragh O’Connor, Owen Cosgrove, Remy Bernard, Ciaran O’Rourke

U-11 Football
Our Under 11 footballers concluded their season on Saturday last in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. Unfortunately, the season ended in a downpour, which necessitated the cutting short of the 3-team blitz involving ourselves, Russell Rovers and Kiltha Óg. Many thanks to Mark Ward and his mentors for their sustained efforts to promote football in 2010, efforts which should bring reward in 2011 and beyond.

AGM Month
It’s the time of year when we look back and look forward at our Annual General Meetings. The GM of Killeagh GAA Club takes place this Thursday November 18 in Páirc Uí Chinnéide at 8.00 p.m., while the AGM of Killeagh-Ita’s Juevenile GAA Club will take place on the following Thursday November 25 at 8.00p.m., at the same venue. We are asking all parents of young players to attend these important events if at all possible.

U-10 Hurling Parish Leagues
Round 1 of our Under 10 Hurling Parish Leagues for 2010 began in great style on Saturday last. Considering the potential for inclement weather, we had a great turnout with 45 boys ready for action. Each of the four teams met their manager and began with a short coaching session. Ansin thosaigh na cluichí, with Alan’s Yellows playing Donie’s Blues. Richie Long, as captain of the Yellow team, was in great form throughout, and was ably assisted by Robert Sinclair and Ciaran O’Rourke. They held the upper hand after the first 10 minutes, and despite the best efforts of captain Dylan Hogan, Paul Delaney and Robbie Treacy, the Blues were not able to close the gap. In the other game we had a real cracker. Barry Motherway’s Green team, expertly marshalled by John, had a great tussle with Adrian Galvin’s Red team, for whom Tom was deputising as manager. It was a real see-saw battle, and the scores came thick and fast in the final 10 minutes. Apart from strong performances from the two captains, young Ben O’Connor and Olan Broderick played really well for the Greens while the Leahy boys, Padraig and Ciaran, along with Cathal Fitzgibbon, battled all through for the Reds. Ag deireadh an chluiche, bhí na fóirne ar chomhscór, with each side scoring 3-3. Well done to all four teams, and we look forward to Round 2 next Saturday (30) at the same time, 2.30 p.m.

U-8 Hurling
Our Under 8’s had their final outdoor training session of 2010 last Tuesday, and will take to the indoor arena in November. Times will be allocated each Tuesday for different groups, so watch out for the notes or texts that will give you your times.

U-11 Indoor Hurling
On Monday next, with the trick-or-treat season behind us, and winter well and truly here, we begin our 6-week season of Under 11 Indoor Hurling in Youghal GAA Club. Games will take place between 5.00 and 7.00 each Monday, with team lists already distributed to all players. Captains are Fionn McDonnell, Dean Ward, Shane Kearney, Sean Walsh, Jamie Clifford, Jamie Landers, Keane Kelly Budds and Daniel Hickey. Go n-eirí libh go léir.

Congratulations
Once again, we congratulate the fantastic Inch Rovers team who secured the Munster Senior Football Title by overcoming Ballymacarbery in the replay in Bushy Park, Dungarvan on Saturday last. Two more hurdles remain if this great team are to be crowned All-Ireland champions, and we wish them every success on this journey.

Notes for week ending 17-10-2010

Fé 15 ‘A’ East Cork Hurling Championship
As the Championship action of 2010 comes to a close nationally and locally, we embarked on our last of the season on Saturday, travelling to Aghavine to take on the challenge of the home side, Fr. O’Neill’s, in this years’ Fé 15 Hurling Championship. Lining out minus a few key players, we set about our task. Shane Smiddy opened the scoring for us, converting an early free. O’Neill’s followed suit and so the pattern for the opening half was set; hard to believe that there was only one point scored from play in this half, all others were from good free taking on both sides. As we approached the short whistle O’Neill’s held a three point advantage but before it sounded Shane McCarthy stepped up to take a twenty one yard free, and executed it perfectly to the O’Neill’s net, leaving the sides level, 1-3 to 0-6 at the break. When we returned to this close, intense, hard fought battle, it was Shane again who got us off the mark. We cruised into a four point lead as Gary Leahy found the O’Neill’s net for our second goal of the day. O’Neill’s upped the ante and began to claw into our lead, point by point. As we clung on to our one point advantage and watched the clock as the seconds ticked down, the reiteoir awarded the O’Neill’s boys a last grasp free, which they converted to end the hour in a draw; 2-4 to 0-10. Ten minutes per half of extra time began with O’Neill’s converting yet another free. The game was intense now as both fought to stay in the competition, defending stoutly, with both sets of forwards under severe pressure to push their team over the end line. O’Neill’s added another point to their tally without reply from the Killeagh-Ita’s boys. A straight turn over into the last ten minutes and with O’Neill’s having a two point advantage, we dug deep and oozed sweat, as another Shane Smiddy free began our comeback. Nerves now from the sidelines, as Daniel Smiddy tapped over the equaliser for Killeagh-Ita’s, the fourth time in this game. Both teams were not happy to come away with a draw, and fought tooth and nail for the closing two minutes and it was a point from Shane that gave us the slim advantage as the clock ticked. Not over until the whistle sounds, never give up; O’Neill’s were awarded a sideline cut and sent it into our danger zone, and had it flicked past our keeper in the blink of an eye, to secure a two point lead. We knew at this stage that it was too late for a recovery, and it was the O’Neill’s lads who won the puck out and slotted it back over the bar to conclude this great game and secure victory 1-13 to 2-7. Hard luck to the Killeagh-Ita’s lads and many thanks to their mentors, Dave and Kieran for a job well done. We wish our neighbours all the best as they continue on the Championship trail.

U-12 Parish Leagues
Our Indian summer proved a real blessing on Saturday morning last as our annual Fé 12 Parish Leagues in hurling were run off in a one-day blitz. Four teams, captained by Cathal Deane, Killian Treacy, Kevin Murphy and Andrew Leahy, and respectively managed by Paudie Kearney, Mark Ward, Brinsley McDonnell and Adrian Budds, took to the field and played each other in a round-robin series of games. At the end of the morning’s activities Andrew Leahy’s team were the victors, and to the victors the spoils! Our 1999 hero (and hero of many other days indeed), Mark Landers, took time out from his pre-nuptial planning to present the prestigious trophy to Andrew, and to give words of wisdom to all the players. Well done to all those who played and a bualadh bos mór to our two young referees Dylan and Dermot who stood in at a moment’s notice on Saturday morning. Well done to Adrian and his team for running off the blitz without a hitch!

U-10 Hurling
The Indian summer stretched into Sunday morning as well and it was fantastic to see our second pitch densely populated with many supporters in their shirt-sleeves, as we played Bishopstown in hurling challenges. Following the proposed structure for U-12 games from 2011 on, both clubs split their panels into tow even teams. One round of games was played for 25 minutes, and then teams reversed and played their opponent’s other team for another 25. The action was very combative but also very sporting, with honours pretty even at the end. Our visitors were highly impressed with our facilities, echoing views of almost every visitor to Páirc Uí Chinnéide these days. How wonderful it is to hear such praise! Many thanks to Bishopstown for travelling down to us, and thanks to Ger and Tom for refereeing, even if Ger didn’t impress one of the young visitors!

U-10 Parish Leagues Hurling
Next Saturday (23) we begin our U-10 Parish Leagues Hurling for 2010. All boys born in 2000, 2001 and 2002 are invited to participate, with the action taking place each Saturday for the next 3 weeks at 2.30. The semi-finals and finals will be held on Sunday November 14, where we hope to have further balmy weather at our disposal! Teams have been picked, and the schedule agreed, and the ban on pre-dawn training will be strictly enforced! Let battle commence!

U-8 Hurling
Our Under 8’s will finish their outdoor training this week (Tuesday 19) and will then recommence in November with indoor hurling in our new ball arena. We’ve seen great improvements with this group in the past few weeks, so keep practising boys!

Notes for week ending 10-10-2010

Congratulations and celebrations!

We’ve to start this week’s notes once again with big congratulations to the women of our parish (and one or two from outside!) who again showed us how to win in style when they captured the Cork County Senior B Camogie title on Saturday evening last in Páirc Ui Rinn. The win showed the importance of working from the grassroots with the very young, and how hard work at under-age level can reap rewards at adult level. A lesson for all of us there! Let’s also wish Imokilly camogie team the best of luck in their County Final replay against Inniscarra, whenever that may be!

Féile Iomaint Fé 13 2010

Having successfully qualified from our opening group last weekend, we advanced to the semi-final stages of this competition. On Saturday last we travelled to the city venue of Na Piarsaigh’s, where we were to battle it out with the hosts, Fr. O’Neill’s and Blackrock for a place in this year’s final. We were now among some of the elite, top flight teams, but that is where we like to be and we certainly love a challenge. First up were our near neighbours Fr O’Neill’s, who secured the opening score of the game aided with the morning’s strong breeze. With this strong breeze, we knew it would be a game of two halves and so were not too worried when we had curtailed O’Neill’s to a 0-6 to 0-1 advantage as the short whistle had sounded. However, wouldn’t you know it! What happened? The wind died! Where was Lady Luck when you needed her? So we had to plod on without any assistance, and although we had a good second half, O’Neill’s halftime advantage stood and they took the opening two league points, winning by 0-8 to 0-3.The hosts also secured their opening league points as they overcame their city buddies in cluiche a dó. Game two saw us against Blackrock and O’Neill’s versus Na Piarsaigh. These games were hard fought on but it was eventually a city winner that emerged from both. At this stage it was looking likely that the Na Piarsaigh boys would qualify from this group to advance to the final. We took our places for our final game versus the hosts, and Blackrock lined out against Fr. O’Neill’s. This was one of our better games of the day and we had some fine exhibitions of play against this much bigger more physical team, and even had the advantage of our superb goalie, Darren, bring off a magnificent save to deny the city boys their penalty glory. Alas, it was not enough for us to claim victory or the league points, thus the Blackrock/ O’Neill’s game faded into insignificance as the Na Piarsaigh lads had topped the group with a top mark record, and thereby advancing to next week’s final, where they will play the boys from Sarsfields, who were also lucky enough to advance from their group semi-finals. This will take place next Saturday in the C.I.T grounds at 3.00 pm. We wish both teams every success and we thank Robin Murray and Bord na nOg an Chathair for a great competition Thanks also to our own bunch of lads and their mentors, for two great weekends of hurling.

Fé 10 Peil

Our Under 9 and Under 10 footballers played 2 thrilling games against Cobh on Saturday last when they visited us in Páirc Ui Chinnéide. While the strong wind affected play adversely, it didn’t deter the enthusiasm and effort from all four teams. Our Under 9 team managed to get the better of Cobh’s Under 9’s, while our Under 10’s – minus a couple who had other duties – played very well but had to settle for second best against a very skilful Cobh selection. With our season coming to an end shortly, it is very obvious that there has been a big improvement in football since we started last March – well done boys! Keep up the practice with the big and small ball every day!

Fé 12 Parish Leagues (Hurling)

Next Saturday (16) we expect a morning of excitement in Páirc Ui Chinnéide as we play our 2010 U-12 Hurling Parish Leagues in a blitz format. Boys born in 1998, 1999 and 2000 will play in this blitz for the honour of winning this prestigious trophy. Four teams have been picked, with Kevin Murphy, Cathal Deane, Killian Treacy and Andrew Leahy as captains. The action starts at 11.00 sharp, so all boys are asked to be present at 10.30. Bígí ann, agus bígí réidh!

Notes for week ending 26-09-2010

Bhíomar an-ghnóthach arís i rith na seachtaine seo caite, and given the week that was in it, it was appropriate that football took precedence. Here’s a roundup of the action.

U-10 Parish Leagues
Our Under 10 Football Parish Leagues concluded on Sunday morning as 44 committed players battled gamely for over an hour in the final day of action. At the conclusion of the three rounds on Thursday last, Padraig Leahy’s Yellow team were unbeaten, and they maintained this record as they overcame Darragh Geary’s Blue team in the semi-final, and then defeated Kieran Daly’s Reds in a cracking A final. Cian McDonald was literally unbeatable in goal as the Reds blasted shot after shot but could not find a way past him, and the Yellows prevailed on a scoreline of 1-5 to o-3.In the B Final, Andrew Foley’s Green team maximised their numerical advantage to defeat the Blues in a game of high drama, with Olan Broderick’s last minute pile-driver lashing against the crossbar. Unfortunately for Olan and his team mates, this left them 2 points adrift on a scoreline of 3-1 to 2-2. So congratulations to the Greens and Yellows, but in truth, all players deserve great credit for making these leagues so exciting. Many thanks to the moms, dads, grandparents and other family members whose positive support added greatly to the occasion, and to our four dedicated and enthusiastic managers Alan, Kevin, Tom and Declan. Should Conor Counihan decide to step down, we could suggest a name or two to step in to his shoes!! Thanks also to Ursula for her diligence in hunting down trophies, and for supplying the essential goodies at the end of the morning’s activities. A day in Páirc Uí Chinnéíde that those young boys will surely remember for many a long time to come!

U-10 Hurling
Mayfield paid a visit to us on Saturday last, and we had a most enteratining match. It was somewhat unusual to be back playing 15-a-side after our recent emphasis on 10 and 11-a-side games. Our Under 10’s, supplemented by four Under 9’s, played the first half, and held an eight point lead at half-time, when they trooped off and were replaced by an Under 9 selection, which also included our two Under 8 regulars, Robbie and Ben. We competed really well for this half, but Mayfield’s age advantage allowed them to whittle back the lead and to hold the upper hand when the final whistle blew. Many thanks to Mayfield for the visit.

U-16 A Football Championship
It was a week of mixed emotions and fortunes for our Fé 16 footballers. Paired with the Glanmire boys in the quarter final stages of this year’s Fé 16 ‘A’ East Cork Football Championship, we had a big task ahead of us, especially when you cast your mind back to last year when we came up against these young men. Daunting as the task seemed, we had prepared well and travelled to the Pike field on Monday last to contest this challenge. A goal in the opening few minutes for the Glamnire boys had set them on their way and had us thinking, are we in for a re run of ’09? However our lads settled into the game after this early setback and David Cahill got us off the mark with a fine point. Glanmire increased their lead with a further two points before Decky Long gathered the liathroid and headed towards the Glanmire goal, beating their defence and side stepping their goalie, he secured our opening goal. On the seventeenth minute Eoghan Keniry booted over a lovely point to bring the boys in green on level terms with our hosts, 1-2 apiece. We witnessed some lovely football in the closing stages of this half, with both teams exchanging points, two to one, in our favour to leave the half time score reading 1-4 to 1-3, advantage to Killeagh-Ita’s. We are still wondering, was Conor Counihan in the dressing room for the half time pep talk, because our lads came out with all guns blazing and totally dominated the opening quarter, securing some brilliant points and increasing our lead by a further four points, with Dave Cahill scoring twice and one each from Matthew Murphy and Jerome Glavin.
Glanmire converted a free, to open their scoring of this half which gave them the will to fight back and they secured two more, but we defended with every ounce of energy and held on to our lead as the final whistle approached. Just before it sounded Thomas O Connor tapped over our final point of the game, which saw us book our place in this year’s semi final – final score Killeagh-Ita’s 1-9; Glanmire 1-6.

Our semi-final opponents were near neighbours Kiltha Óg. We hosted this game in Pairc Uí Chinnéide on Saturday evening last under the watchful eye of referee Ian O’Brien of Midleton. We witnessed a closely fought opening half, with both teams defending resolutely, but it was our visitors who held a slight advantage as the short whistle sounded, 0-5 to 0-3. Martin O’Driscoll opened the scoring for us in the second half, but it was the Kiltha boys who won the breaks and had a little luck on their side and went on to dominate this half, securing a brace of points without reply from us, try as we might. They were eventually comfortable winners on the day and we wish them every success in the forthcoming final. Well done boys – the Glanmire victory was very encouraging and reward for the effort put in by management and players, and Saturday was just a bridge too far.

Congratulations
To all those who received Junior Cert results this month – well done! Now lean ar aghaidh leis an obair!

Notes for week ending 03-10-2010

The weather seemed to be in harmony with the economic outlook this week, causing some disruption and discomfort for our young sportsmen and women, and their followers. Our Under 8’s had to cancel their scheduled training on Tuesday, while our Under 13 blitz on Saturday, which was a fantastic success, was blighted by a couple of heavy downpours.

Bord na nOg Cathair Chorcai; Feile Iomaint fé 13.
On Tuesday last the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Mick O Connell welcomed all teams participating in this years Fé 13 Feile Iomaint Competition to the City Hall for a reception to launch this years outing. A great night was had by all, photos were taken and nibbles eaten as all eyes were on the wonderful Cup, sponsored by Mahers Sports, that was on display for the winners of this County competition. This is run on a blitz/league format over three weekends at different venues throughout the County.
On Saturday last we hosted one of these blitzes in Pairc Uí Chinnéide. As we set about defending our ’09 title, we welcomed the visiting teams of our group, namely, Midleton, Ballinhassig and Douglas. Each would play one another over the course of the day and when complete the top two teams from the group would progress in the competition to next Saturday’s outing.
Our opening game was against the Douglas boys as Midleton took on the challenge of Ballinhassig, both games full of anticipation and thrills as each fought to gain the opening two points of the league table and when the referees of the day, Maurice Mulcahy and Christy Hennessy blew the action to a close it was Douglas and Midleton who had secured those points. Douglas 3-5 to Killeagh/Ita’s 3-3 and Midleton 1-10 to Ballinhassig 2-3. After our cup of tea and light refreshments, we swapped over, we took on Ballinhassig and Midleton took on the Douglas boys. Two more closely fought contests panned out and as the whistles sounded again, we had secured our opening two points, overcoming the boys in Blue 2-11 to 2-1 and Midleton and Douglas both added a point to their tally as they ended their game in a draw, 2-6 a piece. More tea was had and tactics discussed as we headed into our last game of the day. It was all to play for as the League table read as follows; Midleton and Douglas both on three points, Killeagh/Ita’s on two and Ballinhassig bringing up the rear on zero. We knew that only a win over Midleton would secure our advancement in the competition. We witnessed a thrilling contest as Midleton also knew what they had to do. It was nip and tuck for the opening half, with both teams giving it their all and as the short whistle sounded the minimum advantage was in our favour, 0-3 to 0-2. The pattern continued in the second half, tit for tat, as both teams defended well and applied the pressure in the forward lines. Approaching the closing stages and hanging on to a point advantage, we eventually broke through their defence and found the net; we were given a little breathing space. This was short lived as Midleton were awarded, not one but two close range frees in the dying moments of this thriller, but lucky for us they opted to take their points and as we watched the clock tick, we breathed a sigh of relief as the final whistle sounded. We had secured our place in next Saturday’s outing on a score of 1-6 to 0-5, alongside Douglas who overcame Ballinhassig in their closing game, 3-5 to 2-4. We look forward to next week when we will group with three other teams and try to do it all again and advance to the final. Only one team will qualify next week from the group, extra pressure. Well done lads and the best of luck. Many thanks to the ladies who served the tea and refreshments throughout the day and to those who helped set up the pitches and tidy up after.

Congratulations
The cailíní have been showing us how to do it in the past week! Inch Rovers have regained their Senior County Title, beating rivals Donoughmore in a game of the highest quality on Saturday last in CIT. Well done to Noel and his team, and to the dedicated and skilful panel of players he has assembled. We’d love to see ye go all the way this time and win the All-Ireland, so go for it, girls! Also, well done to the Inch Rovers U-16 team who won the County on Sunday last, and to Imokilly’s camogie team who have qualified for the County Final.

Week Ending August 1 2010

East Cork Champions – at last!
Fé 14 East Cork Football Final: Killeagh-Ita’s 1-10 Aghada 1-9
Following our defeat in the Fé 14 A Hurling Final to Carrigtwohill some weeks back, hopes were high that we could reverse that disappointment by garnering victory in the football final. This time, we were up against the best football club in the division, Aghada, who were supported by none other than Cork senior football coach Conor Counihan, along with many others. However, we had our own enthusiastic supporters, and our own super-prepared management team of Declan Fogarty, Conor McNamara and Conor Murphy as the teams lined out on a beautiful sunny evening in Ahavine. The match was a thrilling contest, with the ball whizzing from one end of the field to the other, and both sides showing tremendous endeavour, skill and teamwork. An early goal from Padraig Walsh helped us to claw back an early Aghada advantage, and we held the upper hand at half time by 1-6 to 1-3. However, Aghada levelled within five minutes of the restart. A point-blank save from Colin Walsh was to prove critical mid-way through the half, and with the scores level at 1-9 apiece, a fantastic move from our own end line saw the ball worked quickly up the field where cool shooting from Daniel Smiddy saw us take the lead once more. Incessant Aghada pressure failed to raise any more flags and when Mary Swayne blew the final whsitle we hled that slender advantage. Daragh Cahill received the cup amid joyous scenes. Next up is Carrigaline on August 14 in the County quarter final. Well done to everyone, and also to Aghada for a fine sporting game.

Fé 12 Willie Ryan Hurling Blitz Report
Last week we reported that our U12 hurlers travelled to Aghada on 24 July to compete in the famous Willie Ryan hurling blitz, and that we emerged victorious. Here is a detailed account of our hectic schedule on the day.
Cluiche 1: Killeagh-Itas 3-3 Midleton 1-4
Our first game was against Midleton. We started the game very strongly and were 6 points up at half time. In the second half Midleton came storming into the game and reduced our lead to a point, but a great effort in closing minutes saw Killeagh-Itas pull away to record an important victory.
Cluiche 2: Killeagh-Itas 1-2 Carrigtwohill 0-1
After another very hard game we were glad to get a win as we now qualified for the semi final. Daniel Hickey again played excellently in goal, while Emmet Baron, Jack O’ Rourke and Eoin Treacy were also prominent.
Cluiche 3: Killeagh-Itas 4-2 Sars 0-1
Our last qualifying game was against a weakened Sars team. All panel members played in this game and great goals from Shane Kearney and Alex Fitzgerald set us up for a comfortable win.
Cluiche Leath-Cheannais: Killeagh-Itas 3-1 Castlelyons 1-3 (after extra time)
A very tired Killeagh-Itas team faced a very tough Castlelyons outfit who were well up for the game. Andrew Leahy could have had four goals with a bit of luck, but for the first time we were pushed all the way by a more determined Castleyons team and ended up level at full time. A few harsh words were needed from Declan & co. on the line before extra time got under way. Thankfully we got back on track and ran out 4 point winners in extra time.
Cluiche Cheannais Liam O Riain: Killeagh-Itas 3-5 Midleton 1-6
We reached the final which was our main objective at the start of the day. The lads were absolutely exhausted by now. Facing our old rivals Midleton was a great motivator and the boys found the energy from somewhere to go out and give their all in the final, which was a very close encounter. We started the game very well and sharp shooter Andrew Leahy was in for a trademark goal early on, followed by a fine point from Eoin Treacy. Midleton came back at us and added a few points and struck a well taken goal giving Daniel Hickey no chance. Killian Treacy added a few points from frees and we went in at half time with a one point advantage playing with the wind. We were very lucky not to concede two goals in the opening half when heroics from Luke Fogarty, who used his back to block a certain goal, and Daniel Hickey, who made a brilliant save, kept our goal intact. At half time we could see how tired the lads were and we feared the worst. Midleton started the second half with a couple of placed balls sent straight over the bar to take a one point lead. They were now very dominant around the middle of the field and they were supplying the full forward line with a lot of ball, but the Killeagh-Ita’s full back line stood firm and defended brilliantly. Emmet Barron was outstanding at full back, marking Midleton’s sharp shooting full forward. We exchanged a few points from placed balls and found ourselves two points down with four minutes left. Cathal Deane moved to centre back and Kevin Murphy to midfield in one last throw of the dice. It proved fruitful as a long range free that looked to be heading over the Midleton cross bar was batted out to the waiting Kevin Murphy, who calmly buried it in the Midleton net. Killian pointed a free shortly afterwards to leave us two points up. Midleton came with another rally and great defending from Cathal, Christy and brilliant blocking from Jack kept Midleton at bay .Andrew Leahy moved to midfield with great effect in injury time, using his strength to win possession of vital balls in the dying moments. Killian hit a free straight to the net on the stroke of full time. A very proud Killeagh-Ita’s captain Andrew Leahy was presented with the Willie Ryan cup. One can’t help mention Killian Treacy’s brilliant free taking all day - it was as good a display as was ever seen from a twelve year old. It was our seventh time winning the tournament - our first was in 1984, one of Ray Rochford’s first involvements and successes in the club.

This was a brilliant win for the team that took a super effort all the way from the very first game in the morning. We are very proud of what ye have achieved. The whole panel all played their hearts out and got a deserved reward due to their hard work, dedication and determination which started in our training sessions way back in January. Well done lads!

Thanks to Aghada for inviting us to this great tournament, which was ran off superbly yet again. Thanks for the tea and sandwiches which were greatly appreciated. And thanks to the Killeagh-Ita’s parents for the Mars bars - as Andrew Leahy quoted in his speech, “The Mars bars are what made all the difference”.
Panel: Daniel Hickey, Luke Fogarty, Emmet Barron, Eoin Fitzgibbon, Christy Coughlan, Kevin Murphy, Jack O’ Rourke, Cathal Dean, Jamie Landers, Fergal Smiddy, Killian Treacy , Fionn McDonnell, Aaron Walsh , Andrew Leahy, Eoin Treacy, Dean Ward, Shane Kearney, Alex Fitzgerald, Jamie Clifford.

U-10 & U-9 Hurling
Our U-10 hurlers played Youghal in a Go Games 10-a-side game on Wednesday evening, while we had two U-9 teams travel to Castlemartyr on Thursday evening for more Go Games. We are adapting well to this new format and players are developing their striking, blocking and tackling skills all the time. Remember to keep practising every day – if you want to be as good as Seán Óg, Niall Mac or Ben and Jerry, you should have the hurley and ball with you at all hours of the day! More matches coming up right through the month of August, so keep hurling and footballing!

24/7/10
Saturday last was surely one of the busiest days of the year, with our Under 9's, Under 10's, Under 12's and Under 14's all in action, with great success all round.
Under 9 hurlers hosted Sarfields on Saturday morning and we had two very competitive 10-a-side games. Honours were even in two close games, with great improvements made by both sets of players since we had met in early April. Many thanks to Daniel and Dylan for refereeing these games at short notice.
Under 10 footballers played a very entertaining game against Youghal on Saturday afternoon. This 10-a-side game was played under the Go Games format, which seemed to suit both teams, with some excellent point scoring, goals, and defensive play evident from each side.

Ryan Tournament 2010. (Fé12 Hurling).
Once again this time of year our thanks go to the Aghada Club for the organising and running the Annual Willie Ryan Hurling Tournament for under 12 boys. A fantastic tournament to participate in and even sweeter one to win.was a hive of activity on Saturday last as eight teams descended on the grounds to do battle for this prestigious prize. Two groups of fours team hurled out of their skins in a round robin format, with two teams from each group qualifying for the playoff stages, a step closer to the trophy.were grouped with Midleton, Sarsfields and Carrigtwohill and opposite Cobh, Castlelyons Watergrasshill and the hosts, Aghada. With all players on top form, we set about our task in hand and after some marvellous exciting hurling games we defeated all our opponents and had topped our group, with Midleton as runners up. In group two it was Aghada and Castlelyons who emerged. Semi-finals ready to be blown into action and the adrenal pumping: it was Midleton V Aghada and Castlelyons V ourselves. We had a very tough encounter with the Castlelyons boys and the game had to go to extra time to separate the sides. Feeling the heat of the beautiful day, the little legs and bodies were tiring, but we dug deep and emerged victorious to contest the 2010 final with the other semi-finalists, Midleton, who had overcome Aghada, in another thriller. Last lap, we regrouped and hydrated before we once again faced the Midleton boys for the final showdown.total different game to the group stages, we could take nothing for granted and had to pull out all the stops if we were to win this contest. After an exciting close encounter, level on a few occasions, we battled to the bitter end and amid scenes of exhaustion and joy we were the eventual winners.Andrew Leahy accepted the prestigious Willie Ryan Trophy on our behalf for the seventh time. Congratulations to all the lads and their mentors on this fantastic achievement. Our thanks to the Aghada Club for the invite and for their hospitality on the day.

Fé 14 'A' Football Championship.
Saturday evening last saw us contest the semi-final stages of this year's fé 14 'A' football championships with the Midleton lads. Played in Midleton under the watchful eye of Niall Barrett, an reiteoir. We got off to a blistering start with a Dan Smiddy goal followed closely by another from the boot of Eoghan Keniry. Midleton had settled by now and had pegged back one by securing three unanswered points (2 frees). We edged ahead again as Shane Smiddy tapped over two beauties, only to have them cancelled out by the Midleton reply. With twenty minutes gone on the clock, Midleton levelled matters with a well taken penalty that Colin was unlucky not to stop. Padraig Walsh and Dan Smiddy regained our lead with a point each as the half time whistle was sounded. Killeagh/Ita's 2-4 to Midleton 1-5.opening stages of the second half were nail biting stuff as both teams fought hard and the sides were again level after twelve minutes of play, 3-6 to 2-9. We regained our lead as Eoghan Keniry slotted home our penalty shot, Midleton replied with a well taken point. It was nip and tuck for the next ten minutes with both teams defending well and both sets of forwards only producing a point each. With six minutes remaining on the clock and only a goal (in our favour) separating the sides, it was anyone's game, but at this stage we dug deep and rallied with a late surge and managed to secure victory scoring a 2-2 blitz, without reply from the Midleton lads to run out winners 6-9 to 2-11.now face Aghada in this years East Cork Final, best of luck to all involved.

Minor Hurling League.
Our minor lads continued their league trail, travelling to the City venue of Mayfield to play the hosts, last Tuesday evening. This was an exciting contest played out on a perfect evening for hurling. We saw some fine passages of play from both defences and some fantastic goals and points from the forwards. We emerged victorious and the league points in the bag on a score line of Killeagh/Ita's 3-13 to Mayfield 1-13. This was a good workout for both teams as they eagerly wait to see who they will draw in the third round of the Championship. Stay tuned to see who the Killeagh/Ita lads will face.

Congratulations & Best wishes:would like to take this opportunity to wish our sister Club St. Ita's and our Fé 21 Hurlers every success as they continue their Championship trail this week.congratulations go to our own Cian Fogarty who helped the Cork County Intermediate hurlers to Munster victory during this past week. All very proud of you! Well done.would like to wish our Fé 14 Hurling manager Brian Barry, (better known as Blondie) and his fiancée Susan Nolan a fantastic wedding day on Friday and a life time of happiness. Also our congrats to Johnny Walsh and his new bride, Aileen who took the plunge this past week.

17/07/10
this past week saw our Fé 16 footballers host the Midleton boys in Páirc Uí Chinnéide for some league action. It was not a very exciting or rewarding game for us as on the night Midleton proved the experts with the big ball and forged ahead to win the contest and gain the league points. On Thursday our second Fé 14 football squad had more fortune with them as they travelled to Glenville to take on the home side. We played some very skilful football despite the hard physical challenge from the Glenville boys and were rewarded with a 4-8 to 2-8 victory as the final whistle sounded.

Cúl Camp 2010past week Páirc Uí Chinnéide was full of excitement, fun, action, boys & girls, and Cork hurling, ladies football & camogie stars! We had a fantastic injury-free camp, being very lucky with the weather, (even getting a little tan on our opening day). The one hundred and thirty four boys and girls who attended had an excellent week with their coaches, learning the skills of our national sports and enjoying the fun packed days. We would like to thank most sincerely all the coaches who were with us for the week with a special word of thanks to our senior (!) coaches Peter Power, Pat Moore and Sean Lavery who passed on their expert advice to all these young Gaels. After Thurles on Saturday night, perhaps we need Pat and Peter to do a little bit with our Rebel seniors!
lucky boys and girls (and also some mums & dads) had the pleasure and thrill of meeting with Cork Hurling Stars Aisake O hAilpin and Patrick Horgan, Cork Ladies Footballer Amy O Shea, Cork Camogie Captain Orla Cotter and dual star Angela Walsh during the week. The excitement and buzz around Páirc Uí Chinnéide was electric, as cameras flashed and autographs were signed.
Ita's GAA club are indebted to our rúnaí Ursula Coleman who puts in a phenomenal amount of work in preparing for, planning and delivering our annual Cúl Camp week. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Killeagh Camogie Club members and all parents who supplied tea and sandwiches throughout the week, and assisted in many ways. The welcome cuppa is always a great reviver, and helps to sustain the hard-working coaches. Our thanks and gratitude go to all those who helped Ursula in any way to run yet another successful camp. Helen O'Connor deserves special mention for organising Ursula's beautiful bouquet of flowers (well deserved). Ursula forgives you Helen, on the strength of the home made cookies, you should know by now Ursula likes to remain in the background! Well done and thanks to all for a fantastic week in Páirc Uí Chinnéide.

Hurling Blitz
Our U-10 panel travelled to Rathcormac on Saturday for Round 3 of the Go-Games Blitzes. We played four games, against Youghal, Carrigtwohill, Bride Rovers and Midleton, although the zones were removed for our game against our hosts. We competed well in all games, with Andrew Foley playing a starring role in goals and Padraig Leahy scoring freely at the other end. Kieran Daly marked his return from his travels with a goal in our final game, while all others played their heart out.

news
Unfortunately our planned 9 hurlinggame against Castlelyons on Sunday morning fell victim to the foul weather conditions - we hope to reschedule this fixture as soon as possible.8 hurlingtraining re-commences this Tuesday 20 at 5.30 after a few weeks break, and will continue in this slot for the coming weeks.

Best wishes
We would like to take this opportunity to wish our Fé 14 'A' football panel and their mentors, Declan, Conor & co. every success as they take on the Midleton boys in championship next Saturday in Midleton at 5pm. Also our Fé 12 Hurling panel contest the Willie Ryan Tournament in Rostellan next weekend, and would benefit from your support.

Week of 12/07/2010
, golf and the small little bit of precipitation (well done to the hardy souls who braved the elements for hurling training on Saturday morning and afternoon) kept our activities quieter than usual this past week. Those who were in action hadn't much success with either the big or small ball. However this is all part of the game and once we put in a good effort and did our best, that is what counts.
Fé 16 and Fé 14 footballers were both in league action last Monday evening against Kiltha Óg and Castlelyons respectively. After two hard fought games, we were unable to collect the league points from either on this occasion.
minors hosted the Castlelyons lads on Thursday evening under the watchful eye of Denis O'Flynn. Even though we were short a few lads on the night we applied ourselves to the best of our ability but fell short at the finish.

Classic
Our sincere thanks and gratitude go to Ray Rochford and his hard working committee for organising and completing another successful Golf Classic for our Club. Our thanks also to all those who sponsored, played and made it a wonderful three day event despite the weather. Your support and generosity enables us to develop our facilities and provide proper training equipment for all our young players. Go raibh mile maith agaibh go léir.

weeksees our annual Cúl Camp with 144 enthusiastic boys and girls geared up for four days of gaelic football and hurling coaching, and plenty of fun. Hopefully the inclement weather will steer clear of Páirc Uí Chinnéide from 10.00 to 2.00 each day so that we can all enjoy the week of camp. Hopefully we'll have some reports and photos in next week's news.

Week Ending June 6 2010
were subjected to all the vagaries of the Irish climate in this past week, ranging from cold and rain to tropical sunshine. We carried on regardless!
Under 11 hurlers had contrasting weather and contrasting fortunes in the space of 48 hours at the beginning of the week. On Monday evening Ahavine was very wet and very cold, as our southerly neighbours Fr. O'Neill's welcomed us for our opening game of the Under 11 league. We competed gamely in atrocious conditions, but our hosts were too strong and had a little more hurling than us, and took the spoils. On Wednesday evening our trip to Youghal to play our easterly neighbours proved more productive as we came away with victory.
Saturday last Páirc Uí Chinnéide was busy for a full 12 hours. While Watergrasshill and Youghal took centre stage in the evening's Premier Intermediate Championship fixture, the morning saw almost as many cars as the evening, as we welcomed 4 teams for the opening blitz in a sequence of 5 to be run over the Summer in the new Go Games format. Ballinacurra, Fr. O'Neill's, Erins Own and Lisgoold, along with our own team, competed in this 10-a-side Under 9 hurling blitz. With the Costa del Sol weather and two specially adapted pitches with zones, everything was right for a good morning of hurling, and we got three full hours of it from all 5 teams. Each team won at least one game, with Ballinacurra and Fr. O'Neill's proving to be the strongest of the 5 teams there. A buíochas mór to all who helped to make this a successful event - in particular to our two young referees Dylan and Daniel, to our four visiting teams, their supporters and mentors, and to the suppliers, providers and servers of tea and refreshments over the course of the morning. The generosity of those who brought food and those who stayed to cater for our visitors is much appreciated, and a special thanks to Ursula for once again showing dedication and commitment that cannot be matched. Thank you and well done to all our own boys who played so well, and to John and Alan for keeping everybody focused, happy and content over the course of the three hours. Finally, a few teams were discommoded by the unavailability of their regular space and time for Saturday morning training - thank you also to them for accommodating our Under 9's and their visitors.
again, a reminder that Summer Camp is getting closer and Ursula really needs to know how many participants we'll have. So get your completed entry forms back to Ursula a.s.a.p., or contact her on 087-6292646 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 087-6292646 end_of_the_skype_highlighting to get a form if you need one. Remember, if you're not there, you'll never know what you might miss out on!

some of us went to the dogs on Friday night, while more of us have been gone to the dogs long before then! Worryingly, most of our daoine óga at the greyhound track paid more attention to the ice-cream van and the chipper than to the lithe, fit four-legged athletes inside the fence. Maybe if we put an ice-cream van behind the goals at training we'd get everyone sprinting that bit harder!

Fé 14 Hurling League.
Both our Fé 14 hurling squads were in action on home soil this past week. Our 'A' squad took on the challenge of the Sars boys and our second string hosted the Cloyne lads. Both games served up some fine hurling and at the conclusion of both we had secured victory and bagged the league points. These league games are great preparation for the upcoming East Cork Championship in three weeks time.

Féile Peil na nÓg na Mumhan.
On Saturday last the Féile Peil na Mumhan was hosted in many venues throughout the county and many teams participated in this inaugural competition. This was a taste of what is ahead of us for next year, as Cork is to host the All Ireland Féile Peil in 2011. All teams, both boys and girls, assembled in the City for the opening ceremony which was a very colourful parade of the participating teams and their mentors through the City, lead by many brass and reed bands. The atmosphere was electric! We then dispersed to our appointed venues for our football games. Killeagh-Ita's travelled to St. Michael's Football Club in Blackrock, where we got a warm welcome and met up with our opponents. We were grouped with Dingle, Carrigaline and the hosts St. Michael's. Needing to top the group to qualify for the play off, we played our opening game with Dingle, not knowing before we began, but quickly learning as they played that they were Kerry County Champions. We played a little below par in this opening game and came out the wrong side of the scoreline as the final whistle sounded, losing by 2-9 to 1-4. In the next game, we faced Carrigaline. Here we upped the ante big time and got into our stride and despite being at a disadvantage at the short whistle when trailing by 1-2 to no score, we made full use of the wind after the change over and concluded this game 4-2 to 1-2 victors. Our last group game was against the hosts, St. Michael's. Playing well now as a team, despite losing two players to injury, we saw off their challenge after a great game of football, winning by 5-3 to 2-4. Although other results meant we had not done enough to qualify, we nonetheless had a most enjoyable day out and learned a lot from the games. Dingle went on to top the group and win it out. We would like to thank the St. Michael's Club for their hospitability and refreshments throughout the day.

Fé 12 Hurling
Our second team played a Hurling League game against Midleton on Wednesday last in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. In an entertaining game, we scored the points while crucially, Midleton scored the goals, and so came out on top. Our first team travelled to Lismore on Saturday for a friendly and played well to emerge victors. Our U-11 hurlers begin their campaign this week with a trip to Ahavine to take on Fr. O'Neills.

Fé 10 Hurling
Our Under 10 hurlers, shorn of a few regulars, travelled to picturesque Ballyduff on the banks of the Blackwater on Saturday to participate in their annual invitational tournament. We were second best to Castlelyons in our opening match, but then pipped Tramore in a thriller in our second game, with James Kent and Richie Long getting vital goals. In our final game Portlaw proved too strong for us. Well done to all the players, especially our 3 Under 9s who travelled - Cian McDonald, Dara Motherway and Darragh O'Connor, and a big thank you to our supporters and taxi drivers!

Fé 9 Football
We began our East Cork U-9 Football League on Saturday last when we welcomed neighbours Kiltha Óg for a 10-a-side game, run under the Go Games zones format. We competed gamely but were second best on the day. Football training continues for U-9's and U-10's on Wednesday next, while we host an Under 9 hurling blitz on Saturday morning next, June 5, with Erins Own, Ballinacurra, Fr. O'Neill's and Lisgoold due to visit us.

Weldone to Ciara Motherway who played in goals for the Cork camogie team in Páirc Uí Chaoimh last Sunday. I don't think we ever got 36,000 to any match in Páirc Uí Chinnéide yet, so it was a great honour for you, Ciara!
Good luck to all our young players who are facing into Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams in the coming weeks. Remember you're on the last lap, so stick with it and the results will come!

Cul Camp is now only 6 weeks away. Surely after witnessing Cork play so well against Tipperary on Sunday last, every boy and girl is dreaming of similar glory days in the near or distant future! Maybe this year's Summer Camp will be your launch pad to fame and glory!

Best wishes to our Senior Hurlers who face Carrigtwohill in the opening round of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship on Friday evening next, June 4, in Midleton. How will we contain that mighty man, Niall Mac? I guess that's for bainisteoir Ger and his team of wise men to work out!

Week Ending May 23 2010
raibh deireadh seachtaine iontach againn leis an ghrian geal te a bhí ann! We could get used to this fine weather - it's real 'championship time'! Once again, every evening in this past week saw games and activities aplenty for our daoine óga, both at home and away. Here's a round up of some of these games.

Fé 12 Football
Our second string U-12 footballers headed to The Pike Field, Sallybrook on Monday evening last for their championship encounter against Glanmire. This was a very one-sided affair, and while our boys tried manfully, they were no match for an older and stronger Glanmire outfit. This match served no benefit for either team, in truth.

Fé 14 Football League
The lovely seaside pitch of Rostellan was the venue for this football cracker during the week. Getting off the mark quickly from the throw in, we made an early impact, but this was not sustained as our opponents, steeped in football, rallied well and soon pulled back our lead. In the closing stages of the first half supporters witnessed some fine football from both sides, but it was the hosts who held the advantage at the short whistle, leading by 3-6 to 2-3. We began well in the opening minutes of the second half, and managed to close the gap to the minimum, but alas with the retirement of Darragh Cahill through injury, we were unable to halt Aghada's run to victory. Final score: Aghada 5-10 to Killeagh/Ita's 3-10. We wish these lads every success on Saturday next as they participate in the Féile Peil na nÓg na Mumhan 2010.

Fé 11 Hurling
Our Under 11 boys travelled to Lismore on Saturday 22 to participate in the annual Ber Ryan Hurling Tournament. Short some of our panel, we had to survive with the bare 15 on a sweltering day. The sandwiches were nice by all accounts, but we had to give second best in our three games to Na Piarsaigh, Fr. O'Neill's and Cois Bhríde. Nonetheless, it was good preparation for the forthcoming East Cork U-11 Hurling League.

Fé 10 Hurling
Bishopstown was the venue (a very poorly signposted one, mind you!) for the final game in the Decky Guckian Hurling League on Sunday morning last. With the low-flying aircraft threatening at times to land between the two 65's, and the hill and the wind in our favour and against us for alternate quarters, it was an interesting outing! The beautiful sunshine, the pleasant welcome from our hosts, and the strong performance from our team made the trip worthwhile for our loyal followers who had made the trip. Richie Long gave a fantastic performance from centre back, chipping it with 1-1 as well as doing great clearing up, while Paul Delaney scored a wonder goal from the left touchline and Padraig Leahy also added a goal. Both our goalies Andrew Foley and Mark O' Callaghan were very solid, while Daragh Geary and Patrick Harty continue to improve in every game. Final score was Killeagh-Ita's 3-1, Bishopstown 1-1.

Games Blitz
On Friday evening (21) a new show came to town. Páirc Uí Chinnéide hosted its first full Go Games Blitz as part of a season of blitzes organised by Aghada Juvenile Club this Summer. Midleton, Youghal, Cloyne and ourselves each played three matches in a round-robin series of games. However, these were no ordinary games! In what was certainly a new experience for many of the puzzled adult onlookers, the pitches were divided into three equal zones, with three players in each zone. Every seven minutes, the games were stopped and each group of three players moved into a different zone. The players certainly seemed to enjoy this experience, and all matches were exciting and close affairs. Midleton were the only team that finished with a 100% record, but it appears to have benefited many of our young players, who hurled really well on the night. Olan Hennessy, Kieran Daly, Dylan Hogan and James Kent all did well in each of their positions, while Barry Motherway and Adrian Galvin very quickly mastered the 'sweeper role' in the defensive and midfield zones. The evening was a great success, so much so that our Under 9's tried it out against Fr O'Neill's on Saturday afternoon. Our visitors were a little stronger than us, but nonetheless it was a very positive experience for both teams.

Cul Camp is only 7 weeks away. Book your place straight away through your coach or by contacting Ursula.
Nightat Youghal Greyhound Track is on this Friday evening (28) at 7.45 p.m. Tickets are still available at €20 for this fundraising event - somebody is going to go home €1000 richer! We'd be delighted if all parents of juvenile players would support this venture - again you can buy from your son's coach / trainer or from Ursula or any committee member.

ROUNDUP
the exertions of Lá na gClub, it was back to regular action this week. Our Fé 12 footballers had a heartbreaking experience on Monday 10 last in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. A place in this year's East Cork Football Final was at stake when we took on Castlelyons in the semi-final on a beautiful evening for football. Playing positive attacking football from the off, we dominated the first half and raced into an early two goal lead. Throughout this half we retained our control, and held a comfortable 4-4 to 1-2 lead at half time, or so we thought! However, Castlelyons had ther ideas! They stormed into the game in the second half, and even though the wind didn't seem to be a factor, it really did turn out to be that old cliché of a game of two halves. Sometimes, at under-age games in particular, when the tide turns, it's next nigh impossible to stem it. It was now Castlelyons who were playing the beautiful attacking football and they scored some excellent points and got their goals at opportune times. In contrast, we were still able to work the ball up into attack but were more profligate in front of goal and thus were only able to add one goal to our half-time tally. It finished Killeagh-Itas's 5-4; Castlelyons 5-7. Best wishes to our conquerors in the final. This team's attention now turns to hurling, and they returned to action in this code with a friendly win over Cappoquin on a scoreline of 3-5 to 0-6 on Sunday morning last. By the way, some young player's pleadings at home that his football boots were stolen might be addressed by contacting Ursula - a pair was abandoned in Killeagh after this game!
Fé 14 footballers had an exciting league game against Glanmire at home in Killeagh on Friday evening. Having failed to Glanmire in the final of this championship last year, it was nice to turn the tables this time. We emerged victorious on a scoreline of 3-7 to 2-8.

UPcoming week our second string Fé 12 footballers are in action on Monday evening (17) versus Glanmire while our Fé 10 hurlers host a 10-a-side mini-blitz on Friday evening from 6.00 to 8.30 p.m. Youghal, Midleton, Cloyne and Bride Rovers are the visiting clubs, and this blitz will be run under the Go Games format, with zones, cones and action galore. Come along to support! Our Fé 11 hurlers travel to Lismore on Saturday 22 for the annual Ber Ryan Tournament, while training continues on Tuesday evening at 5.30 for our Fé 8 young stars.

NEWSIta's Club lost a stalwart supporter with the recent passing of Paddy Kennedy. The Kennedy family is steeped in the GAA history of our club. To Helen, Tracey and Mary we express our sympathy.

Camptime is very near! In less than two months it will be all over, so it's time to book your place now. All young players should have received their application form and details by now - to reserve your place get them back to Ursula Coleman as soon as possible. If you need a form, contact Ursula.

á na gClub: Sunday May 9
í lá iontach again i bPáirc Uí Chinnéide Dé Domhnaigh seo caite. Last Sunday Killeagh GAA held our inaugural Lá na gClub (our 2009 attempts had to be cancelled for various reasons), and it was a resounding success. The fine weather did help, but this day would not have been the success it was without some advance planning. Under the expert stewardship of Helen Cusack, ably assisted by Yvonne Treacy and many bakers, tea-makers, event managers and miscellaneous other helpers, everything ran smoothly and to plan. Hurling, football, ladies football and camogie were all on the agenda for various age groups, while the novelty events also proved very popular. The penalty shoot out, puc fada and that most cultural Irish experience, the “bouncy castle”, attracted much interest, while some brave souls also tried their hand at tug-of-war and tyre-racing. The centrepiece of the day's events was the Under 12 A Parish League Football Final, and this game was a real cracker. With some fantastic scores, end-to-end action, and a nail-biting climax, Eoin Fitzgibbon's Blues just edged out Fergal Smiddy's Yellows, with Adrian Galvin proving to be scorer-in-chief. So it was that Eoin received the Parish League trophy from Juvenile Acting Chairman Paul Fogarty, and Eoin's gracious speech would put many of those we've heard from bigger fish on bigger stages into the shade! Well done to all who played so gallantly, and to those who participated in the Shield Final also, and to referee Arthur Murphy. To Helen, we say míle buíochas on a job well done. Brian Cowen might have to go to the country to seek a new mandate sometime in the next 2 years, but you have a job for life now! And finally, a big thank you to all those who attended on the day - all the planning would have been futile had you not turned up and made it the successful day it was. We're looking forward to 2011 already!

Roundup
Our Fé 12 footballers (first team) overcame a game Russell Rovers team on Bank Holiday Monday last to advance to the semi-final against Castlelyons. This match is due to be played on Monday 10, so watch out for a report next week. Our Fé 10 hurlers hosted Fermoy on Tuesday evening in the play-off stages of the Decky Guckian League. Despite a brave performance, we came out second best on the night. Next up in this league is a trip to Bishopstown on Sunday week, May 23.

Under 8 hurling is now in full swing every Tuesday from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. While numbers are good, we're always looking for new boys to join, so if you have a boy born in 2002, 2003, 2004 or 2005, bring them down on Tuesday evening!

á an Samhradh linn, buíochas le Dia! Táimid ag súil go mbeidh laethanta fada grianmhara again i rith na míosa atá romhainn. Let's hope we have lots of long sunny Summer days ahead of us in the next few months, and we hope especially to have sunshine over Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Sunday next, May 9, as we hold our á na gClubday.

Lá na gClub: Sunday May 9

A warm welcome, a céad mile fáilte, is extended to everyone from 0 to 100, idir óg agus sean, to our Annual Lá na gClub day in our GAA field on Sunday afternoon next. This day is set aside to celebrate our club, and to invite those who may not usually attend our games to also join in the fun. On this Sunday, there will be lots of activities for all ages to participate in or to watch. On the field we will have under-age games, adult fun games, long puck competitions and much more. There will be an indoor penalty shoot out, and a free Bouncy Castle for the younger visitors. So whether you consider Páirc Uí Chinnéide as your second home, or you've never been inside the gate (it's 200 yards from the Old Cemetery at the Castlemartyr side of the village), or you have considered that it's not really your place or your thing, come along next Sunday between 2.30 and 5.30. You'll meet lots of people and you'll hopefully have some fun. Bígí ann, gach éinne!

Fé 12 'B' East Cork Football ChampionshipIta's 6-9 Youghal 3-5
was the venue last Monday evening for the opening game of possibly the last ever Fé 12 football championship. Tinged with a little sadness, Youghal and ourselves took to the field and served up an exciting, skilful game of football for our spectators, doing ourselves and our mentors proud. From the throw in, it was all systems go. Killeagh-Itas' took the early lead with an Andrew Leahy point, followed closely by one from the boot of Luke Fogarty. Youghal found their range and slotted over their opening point. Both teams had settled well, and it was the Youghal boys who broke through our defence for the opening goal of this game and took the lead. This was the beginning of a goal spree from both teams. Keane Budds shot our opening goal and Luke Fogarty followed suit with number two for us. Not to be outdone, Youghal secured their second of the evening. With the scoreboard reading Killeagh-Ita's 2-2 to Youghal 2-1, we began to dominate and secured a hat trick of points from Aaron Walsh and a bonus one from Eoin Treacy. The Youghal boys kept in touch with their third goal of the game. Aaron came to the fore once again, securing a further 1-1 for us before the whistle sounded for the half time interval, leis an scór Cilliath-Íde 3-7, Eochaill 3-1.
opened the scoring on the resumption with a fine point, but Eoin Treacy got on the end of a '45' from Killian Treacy to goal. Eight minutes in Youghal were awarded a penalty, but Dean Ward stood firm in the goal and saved brilliantly, leading to shouts of delight and appreciation from our supporters. This gave us the momentum to push ahead to the final whistle. Aaron Walsh added a further 1-1 to his personal tally of the evening and Luke secured his second point, before Keane Budds rounded off our scoring chances with his second goal, with only a three point return from the Youghal boys. As the ref blew this encounter to a close, Killeagh-Ita's had secured our quarter final place against Russell Rovers on a score of 6-9 to 3-5.in next week for the outcome of this game which will have been played on Monday May 3. Best of luck boys!

Fé 16 Iomáint agus Fé 14 Peil
Mid-week action saw our Fé 16 hurlers host our near neighbours Kiltha Óg and our Fé 14 (2) footballers host the black and red of the Cloyne boys in the East Cork Leagues. Both matches saw good performance from both squads but alas no league points were secured on either occasion. Kiltha Óg took home the points on a 3-18 to 3-5 scoreline, while in the peil, the Cloyne boys were vicorious on a 7-11 to 4-6 scoreline.

Féile na nGael (Hurling)
Having had a great run in this year's 'A' Féile Competition, we travelled to Blarney to contest the semi-final stages with the City boys of Na Piarsaigh. Preceded by the other semi in which Mallow overcame the Douglas boys, we took to the field at 5.30 p.m. An exciting opening quarter saw the sides level on 0-4 a piece with Dan Smiddy (2), Padraig Walsh and Eoghan Keniry on the scoresheet for us. Eoghan extended our lead, slotting over a 65 metre free and Dan added a further two. Na Piarsaigh added one to their tally before the half time whistle sounded, leaving us with a 0-7 to 0-5 advantage. Na Piarsaigh upped the ante big time in the second half and had levelled matters at 0-7 apiece after three minutes. This gave them encouragement and with the crowd now well behind them they took the lead, with the game's opening goal. This further drove them on and with little or no reply from us, they went on to secure victory, tapping over some fine points. Our only glimmer of hope came a little too late in the closing stages as Gary Leahy found the back of the Na Piarsaigh net. Na Piarsaigh now face Mallow in the final and the winner will go on to represent County Cork in this year's All Ireland Féile. Thanks to our gallant team, mentors and supporters for an extended run in this exciting competition.

Best Wishes
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all the boys and girls of the Parish a lovely First Holy Communion day in the coming weeks. Killeagh NS and Kyle NS pupils have their day on Saturday 8 May while Inch NS and Park NS pupils have theirs on the following Saturday, May 15. I suppose they might have to get a dispensation from U-10 training for just one Saturday!!

Ita's v St. Catherine's
Our Under 12 football squad(s) followed up their recent wins over Glanmire and Midleton with another win away to St. Catherine's on Monday evening last. These matches have given our lads plenty of good preparation for the opening championship game, which will have been played by the time you read this report. We travel to Copperalley on Monday 26 to take on the Youghal boys, and we are hopeful of a positive outcome. Go n-eirí libh, a bhuachaillí!

Fé 14 Peil
Our Fé 14 'A' squad travelled to play Carrigtwohil mid-week, and although this turned out to be a bit one sided, credit must go to the Carrig boys for their determination right to the final whistle. Bhí an bua againn ar an oíche seo.

Fé 14 Iomáínt
Our Fé 14 'B' lads were on home ground to Erin's Own on Friday evening last, under the watchful eye of our own Ger Scully. This was a fantastic game from these young stars, which went all the way to the wire. The dedication and skill from both teams was unbelievable. The two point win went in favour of the Killeagh-Ita's boys at the final whistle.

Fé 16 Iomáint
Our Fé 16 panel were out twice this past week, with mixed fortunes awaiting them. Travelling to Carrigtwohill on Monday last, we enjoyed a great game of hurling with our hosts. Carrigtwohill got the better start and had secured a six point lead before we knuckled down and began to catch up. It was an exciting encounter, during which we were level on three occasions, but our ability to score the goals secured us victory in the end. An scór deiridh: Cilliath-Íde 3-13; Carraig Tuathail 1-12. These lads faced the boys of Sarsfields later in the week and were unlucky not to garner another two league points. We held a six point advantage at half time, but the Sars boys dug deep and ran out deserving winners on the night.

Fé 10 Iomáintv Killeagh-Ita's
We played our final league fixture in Stage 1 of the Decky Guckian League on Saturday last in Douglas. Minus a number of players for a variety of reasons, we held Douglas scoreless for the first quarter. Just before half-time, however, we were dealt a fatal blow as our gladiator Dylan Hogan had to retire with an injured thumb. From here on we were fighting an uphill battle, although Owen Cosgrove did score a lovely goal, Douglas were well on top. We now await the draw for the play-off stages in this league, with more matches coming down the line quickly.

Fé 10 Peil
We received a lesson in the finer arts of Gaelic football from our Aghada counterparts on their visit to Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Wednesday evening last. Our lads tried manfully to compete, but Aghada's support play and all-round footballing ability was too much for us. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable evening, all the more so when we had free rein on the two beautiful pitches of Páirc Uí Chinnéide. Now who would have thought that possible on a sunny midweek evening in April!

Ita's v Glanmire
Our first team of Fé 12 footballers took on the challenge of the Glanmire boys on Monday last. We got to grips with matters early on in this game and set down an early marker, with Keane Kelly-Budds opening our scoring with a well executed point, followed closely by two beauties from the boot of Killian Treacy. We had secured our opening goal from Luke Fogarty before Glanmire got their opening point. Andrew Leahy rounded off our tally for this half with 1-1, while Glanmire tapped over their second, leaving the half time score 3-4 to 0-2 in our favour. On the resumption, Glanmire secured their third point from a free. We found the scores hard to come by in this half, with Glanmire now playing into the scoring goal! We defended well but despite our efforts Glanmire secured a further four points. Our first half cushion still stood as the game was bought to a conclusion. Bhí an bua againn ag deireadh an lae: Cilliath-Íde 3-4 Gleann Maghair 0-7.

Ita's v Midleton
Our second string of Fé 12 footballers took on the challenge of the Midleton boys bright and early last Saturday morning under a blazing sun. The volcanic ash might have prevented Fionn McDonnell from making his transatlantic journey but it didn't stop him donning his green jersey! These lads played some fine football on the day and were rewarded on the scoreboard, securing a 5-3 to 2-1 advantage at the break. We stood firm in part two and held our advantage as the final whistle sounded, drawing to a close this exciting contest. An scór deiridh: Cilliath-Íde 6-3 Mainistir na Corann 4-2.

Fé 14 IomáintIta's v St. Catherine's
Our second-string travelled to Ballynoe and took on the challenge of the St. Catherine's boys on Tuesday last, in a repeat of last years East Cork Final. Both sides were anxious to take control, and it was nip and tuck for the opening twenty minutes, which saw the sides deadlocked at this point: we had scored 1-2 to 0-5 from St. Catherine's. At this stage we upped the ante and outscored our opponents in the closing ten minutes by 1-2 to 0-1 to leave the scoreboard reading Killeagh-Ita's 2-4, St. Catherine's 0-6 ag leath am. We dominated the second half of this contest, in spite of a trojan effort from the Saints, and ran out worthy winners by 5-13 to 0-8.

Fé 10 IomáintIta's v Mallow
Mallow made the long trek on Sunday morning to picturesque Páirc Uí Chinnéide for Babhta 6 in the Decky Guckian League. In a most entertaining game, both sides gave their all under the warm midday sun. There was little between the two sides, but our slight advantage lay in being able to find scores at the right time. A goal from James Kent set us on our way, then busy centre-forward Richie Long, with a goal and a point, extended our lead before half-time. The play ebbed and flowed in the second half and Paul Delaney added a beautiful point from the left wing. This was probably our best performance to date in this competition, with captain Dylan Hogan again very busy at midfield, and Padraig Leahy revelling in his new role at centre back. We have now played 6 and won 3 matches in this league, with Douglas our hosts on Saturday next (24) at 12.00. Lean ar aghaidh leis an iomáint, a bhuachaillí, tá sibh ag dul i bhfeabhas ó lá go lá. An scór ag deireadh an chluiche: Cilliath-Íde 2-2, Mala 0-0.
next Fé 10 fixture is football v Aghada at 6.30 p.m. in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Wednesday 21. Bígí ullamh, agus bígí ann!

2 Minor Hurling ChampionshipIta's v Valley Rovers
Caherlag was the venue last Sunday afternoon for our opening game of this year's Minor Hurling Championship and Valley Rovers were our opponents. Valley Rovers got a head start in the opening quarter of this game and had six points on the board before we registered our opening point in the eighteenth minute. The Valley boys continued to dominate the play and further added to their tally with just two points in reply until the closing stages when we were awarded a penalty and secured the maximum return. This left the half time score at 1-10 to 1-3 in favour of the Innishannon men. We came more into the game in the second half, and began to close the gap. We scored some fine points and our defence held our opponents to just two points from frees. With the clock ticking and the margin reduced to just five points our hopes were shattered on the fifty ninth minute as Valley Rovers broke through our defence and secured their second goal. Deep into injury time, we received a further set back as they again goaled. At this stage we had to accept our defeat and prepare for the scenic route in this competition. An scór deiridh: CIlliath-Íde 1-8 Fánaithe na Claise 3-13.

We held our Fé 12 semi-finals on Thursday last. Fergal Smiddy's Yellow team, powered by Andrew Leahy, were too strong for the Reds of Jack O'Rourke in one semi-final, while the other game was a closer contest. In this game, Eoin Fitzgibbon's Blue team edged out Christy Coughlan's Greens. It is intended to pay both finals on Sunday May 9 as part of our Lá na gClub celebrations, with details to follow. Reds will play Greens in the B Final, while Blues take on Yellows in the A Final.

Our youngest hurlers got back to action with outdoor hurling training on Tuesday last, under the watchful eye of Johnny Brenner, Donie Treacy, Alan Curran among others, with many proud parents, grandparents and family members supporting from the sidelines. For some, this was their debut, in what we hope will be a long association with the club. Training continues every Tuesday at 5.30 for all boys born in 2002, 2003 or 2004. Go n-eirí libh!

last, some warmth and sunlight to brighten our days and our moods! Here's a round-up of some of our activities this past week.

Fé 14 Hurling Féile na nGael: Blarney 1-8, Killeagh-Ita's 4-8Sunday last we travelled to the sun-drenched tourist town of Blarney to contest the quarter final stage of this year's Féile Fé 14 Hurling competition, with the home side. Blarney meant business and began in top gear, hence we found ourselves in the back seat after eight minutes, trailing by 1-1, before Gavin Coleman got us off the mark with our opening point. Approaching the ten minute mark, Blarney were awarded a penalty. We held our breath and exhaled sighs of relief when it skimmed over the crossbar. We gained procession from the puck out and Dan Smiddy tapped over our second point of the day. Blarney went on to dominate the scoring for the remainder of this half by three points to one (again from Dan), but we were slowly beginning to get to grips with the Blarney boys and the task in hand. With the score board reading Blarney 1-5 to Killeagh-Ita's 0-3, both teams were glad to hear the sound of the half time whistle. It was time to cool down, pump up the sugar levels (thanks Helen), take stock and regroup. aid of the summer breeze, we took charge of the opening minutes of this half and reduced their lead to just the minimum with a goal from Shane Smiddy and a point from Conor Cusack. They kept their noses in front with le cúilín deas ó puc saor. At the ten minute mark we took the lead for the first time in this game, as Shane again found the net. Eoghan Keniry's free edged us further ahead but they again pulled us back with another well placed free. Both teams were plugging away, exchanging points, and it was not until the closing eight minutes that Darragh Cahill gave us some breathing space, scoring our third goal of the day. We finished well with Gary Leahy making no mistake as he split the posts with his free and to round off the day's scoring Darragh O'Brien flicked home a dropping 65 metre free to the Blarney net. As the final whistle sounded the scoreboard read Killeagh/Ita's 4-8 to Blarney 1-8, which probably didn't reflect how close the contest really was. We now advance to the semi final stages of this competition where we will take on a city team. Well done and the very best of luck to you all.

Fé 10 Iomaint Killeagh-Ita's v SarsfieldsUnder 10 hurlers repeated the journey taken by our Under 9's the previous Saturday when we headed for Dr. Kiely Park in Upper Glanmire to take on Sarsfields in Round 5 of the Decky Guckian League. We competed manfully but this Sars team will take some beating, and we were unable to match them on the day. Cian McDonald in goal was clearly our man of the match, while Adrian Galvin and Barry Motherway also played well. Next up is a home fixture to Mallow on Sunday next. Remember, boys, have the hurley in your hands every day!!

minors were in both hurling and football action this past week. They took on the challenge of Fr. O'Neills in the opening round of this year's football championship in Aghavine. O'Neills dominated the opening half, with the aid of the breeze and had secured a 1-7 to 0-3 cushion at the short whistle. Both sets of defences stood firm in the second half, allowing only a point for each team to be scored. Thus O'Neill advanced 1-8 to 0-4 and we take the scenic route (back door), which leaves us still in with a chance! Many thanks to Arthur, Kevin and Joe who saved the day!same lads took on Erin's Own in a Premier Hurling League game on Saturday evening last in Caherlag. Both teams found the heat tough going, but it was Erin's Own who owned the opening half, during which they secured a 2-5 to 0-6 lead. For the opening twenty five minutes of the second half we witnessed some fine hurling but no score from either side. Erins Own tapped over two points to round off proceedings and secure the league points, 2-7 to 0-6. These lads embark on this year's championship trail on Sunday next against Valley Rovers in Caherlag at 4.00pm. Please support.

the run up to the Easter break we were kept busy on the playing fields, with some football and hurling action. Our Fé 10' involved in both, travelling to Sars on Saturday where we participated in two games of fantastic hurling and came away with two victories under our belts, we witnessed some lovely lively action and skills from both teams on the day. Mid week these lads donned the sloitar and hurleys and opted for the boots and big ball and played host to Midleton in a football challenge. The strong wind had a bearing on this game, giving both teams the upper hand at times, but it was our visitors who worked better with its aid and so took victory home with them. Fé 12 footballers were in League action, with our 'B' lads on home soil to Castlelyons and Carrignavar. These lads are maintaining their standard of play and are improving with each game, getting the basics right and showing some lovely team play. After two exciting games we had bagged another two league points, these taken from the Carrig game and we lost out narrowly to the Castlelyons boys. Our Fé 12 'D' boys were host to the Glanmire lads on Monday last, this turned out to be a classic, with the visitors getting to grips early on and leaving us seven points adrift at the short whistle, however we took stock at this point and regrouped with renewed eagerness and determination and began our uphill return, securing some vital scores and keeping our opponents at bay we were rewarded with a one point victory for our efforts.
Fé 14 Hurling Feile (Rd.3)nicely in this years Feile competition, we entered into round three with our East Cork opponents Carrigtwohill on Sunday last. This turned out to be a high scoring, goal galore game. Both teams started well exchanging a flurry of points, then we pulled away a little with our opening goal, but this was short lived as Carrig soon after found our net, at this stage we had some points to the good and we built on this for the remainder of the half, in fact we dominated this opening half and had secured a 4-7 to 2-2 cushion at the break. Carrig opened the second half with a blistering goal to narrow the gap, it was too and fro for most of the closing stages, but our point advantage stood good and when the final whistle sounded we had advanced to meet Blarney on a score of 5-12 to 5-5.
Hurling.Minor hurling squad had a home outing with Ballingassig on Sunday evening last in the Premier 2 Hurling League. Under the watchful eye of Cathal Mc Allister, both these teams served up a good game of hurling under the blustery conditions. As the final whistle sounded there was a goal advantage to the boys in green. Killeagh/Ita's 2-12 to Ballinhassig 1-12.
Football Leagues.Thursday saw a few of you boys missing! However we kicked on and played a great game of local football. Now I hope you will all be back on track this Thursday for our final game before we progress to our semi finals and grand Final on next Sunday morning at 11.00am. However, we can at least look back on some of our matches played over the past week.

Féile na nGael (Fé 14) Iomáint
Ita's v Midletonhad home advantage on Saturday last for our first round Féile na nGael fixture against Midleton. Having exited from Féile na nÓg (Peil) to Carrigaline a fortnight ago, we set our sights on this years hurling Féile. This turned out to be a mouth-watering game under the watchful eye of reiteoir, Michael Mulry. Both teams were battling for the league points and seeking to advance to the next round of the Féile. Midleton opened proceedings with an early goal and Dan Smiddy got us off the mark with a fine point, followed closely by an exchange of points, before Midleton pulled further ahead with their second goal. Both teams hurled superbly to the short whistle, exchanging point for point. As the whistle sounded, we trailed by 2-5 to 0-5. An even more exciting second half awaited us as the lads hydrated themselves and took advice from their mentors. We had a deficit to overcome, but we battled on and reduced their lead to a manageable two points, however Midleton fought back and again left us six points adrift. We plugged on and dug deep and again reduced the lead to just two points. With time ticking, lady luck struck for us as Dan Smiddy found the Midleton net and we took the lead for the first time in this game by the minimum. Midleton, having fought so well throughout were not giving up so easily and in the dying moments Killian Deady levelled matters. At this point I think both teams would have settled for this result, but as there was four minutes of injury time to be played, everyone was on tenterhooks. Midleton were awarded a close in free in the dying embers of the game, and took the opportunity. We were trailing again and hoping we would get the chance to again equalise and force this game to extra time. Possession from the puck out was vital for the Killeagh-Ita's boy in the last chance saloon. A green jersey leapt up and plucked the soaring sliotar from the sky and while we awaited with baited breath, the lads worked it towards the Midleton goal. We were left speechless when our midfielder Darragh Cahill, who travels like the Bus Eireann Greyhound, got to the edge of the square and flicked home the match-winning goal to snatch us victory, as Michael Mulry sounded his whistle for the last time that day. After these exciting, nerve-wracking closing stages it took us a few seconds to realise that we had won the contest and would advance to meet either Éire Og or Carrigtwohill in the next round of this years Féile Competition, and that we had also secured our opening two East Cork League points. Final score: Killeagh-Ita's 4-8, Midleton 3-9.

Fé-16 Football League
Ita's v CobhU-16 footballers travelled to Shanagarry on Tuesday evening last to take on the challenge of the home side Russell Rovers. This turned out to be a closely fought contest that went all the way to the wire, and ended with just the minimum between the sides as the final whistle sounded. Luckily for us, we were on the right side of this winning line, Killeagh-Ita's 2-8 to Russell Rovers 2-7.
Fé-12 Football League
Ita's v CobhWednesday last the rain stayed away as we opened out Fé 12 Peil campaign with a hard-fought win over a determined and well organised Cobh team. Jason Collins took charge for this match and we witnessed a classic game of football that ebbed and flowed, with both teams enjoying dominant periods. Killeagh-Ita's got off to a blistering start, with a goal from Dan Hickey, followed closely by two points from Kevin Murphy. Cobh registered their opening point in the tenth minute; we edged further ahead with another point from Eoin Fitzgibbon, before Jamie Landers found the net for our second goal. Cobh pegged us back with their opening goal of the game before we rounded off the proceedings of this half with point number four, leaving the half time score 2-4 to 1-1 in our favour. Cathal Deane set us on our way sa dara leath le cúilín deas, but it was Cobh's turn to take the reigns in this half and despite our defensive efforts they secured 2-1 to level matters in the closing stages. One of our few attacks in the closing stages saw Christopher Coughlan secure goal number three and the lead again for us. Approaching the end, Cobh's perseverance was rewarded with a point, but as the final whistle sounded we had held on narrowly and secured the league points from this game on a scoreline of 3-5 to 3-3.

Fé 10 Decky Guckian LeagueIta's lose to Carrigaline
On Sunday Carrigaline visited Páirc Uí Chinnéide to play in Round 4 of the Decky Guckian League. It was a close game throughout, but the visitors were able to move the ball a little faster in to their forwards and get scores at vital times. An scór ag an deireadh: Carraig Uí Leighin 4-5, Cilliath-Íde 2-1. Next up is a trip to Upper Glanmire on April 10 to take on Sarsfields, so get the hurleys out every day, boys!

Leagues Week 2
Our Under 12 Parish football leagues continued on Thursday last in the rain, with the inclement weather resulting in reduced numbers on some teams. As a result, the two games played were a little more one-sided than the previous week's thrillers. On a soggy pitch, the Blues, spearheaded by Adrian Galvin, Cathal Deane and Jamie Clifford, were too strong for a depleted Red team, for whom Kevin Murphy, Fionn McDonnell and Luke Fogarty did best. In the other game, on a drier sod, it was a closer encounter, as the Greens became the only team with a 100% record by defeating the Yellows. Next Thursday (April 1) we have Round 3 - Greens v Blues and Yellows v Reds. We hope to play two semi-finals and the final on Sunday morning, April 11.

St. Patrick's Day and Cheltenham 2010 have been and gone, with mixed fortunes for supporters and punters. Cad a rinne tú ar ár lá náisiúnta? Here's a flavour of some of our club activities this past week.
League'Neill's 1-7 Killeagh-Ita's 4-11
Ita's minors contested round two of the Premier 2 hurling league with near neighbours Fr. O Neill's on Saturday evening last in sun-drenched Ahavine. We got off to a flying start with our centre back Michael O'Brien securing our first long range point. Fr. O'Neills responded quickly with one of their own, as both teams signalled they were up for the challenge. Stephen O'Brien had a stroke of luck in the tenth minute as his well struck free ended in the opposition net. We dominated the remainder of this half and secured some fine points from David Cahill (2), Allen Keniry and Stephen O'Brien. Fr. O'Neills plugged away and added to their tally (4pts), but then Decky Long spotted an opening and found the O'Neills net for our second time in this half. Approaching half time our outstanding goalie Dominic Byrne was beaten for once and Fr. O'Neills closed the gap with their opening goal, leaving just a goal between the sides at half time: Killeagh-Itas 2-5 to O'Neills 1-5. Fuair foireann An t-Athair Uí Néill an chéad chúilín don dara leath , but this was to be their only other score until the closing stages when they converted a 65 metre free. In the intervening period we dominated the play and scored throughout, with some finely executed points from David Cahill, Stephen and Ian O'Brien, and Daniel Walsh. Two further goals in this half from the camáns of Allen Keniry and Decky arís, we secured victory and the league points.

Fé 10 Decky Guckian LeagueIta's beat Mayfielda windy Saturday afternoon last our Under 10 hurlers added to their win of the previous week by beating Mayfield ag barr an chnoic i mBaile na mBocht. The wind played a huge factor in this game, and with strong performances from Adrian Galvin, Richie Long and Padraig Leahy, we finished comfortably ahead when the final whistle was blown. Our proud captain for the day Patrick Harty was very chuffed to have led his team to victory! Our next match is at home to Carrigaline on Sunday next (28) at 10.30 a.m., where we'll be hoping to continue our gradual improvements. Meanwhile, we strike for Rostellan on Wednesday evening (24) for a 6.00 date with Aghada's Under 10's, in our opening football game of the season.

Throw-In
Our Under 12 Parish football leagues got off to a great start on Thursday last with two exciting and closely contested games. The Yellows, spearheaded by Andrew Leahy, Aaron Walsh, Sean Walsh and “an peileadóir is óige” Ben Ingamells were just too strong for the Blues who had great performances from Emmet Barron, Eoin Fitzgibbon and Olan Broderick, holding out to win by 6-5 to 5-4. In the other game we saw some great points and goals scored. The Greens, with Killian Treacy, Keane Kelly Budds and Richie Long to the fore, barely edged past the Reds, for whom Jack O'Rourke, Luke Fogarty and Daniel Hickey did well - the final score was 4-10 to 5-5. This Thursday (25) the second round of matches takes place, with the Yellows facing the Greens, and the Blues taking on the Reds. Bígí ann ag a cúig a chlog, gach éinne!

Bhíomar an-ghnóthach i rith na seachtaine seo caite, idir peil agus iomáint. The Under 10 and Under 12 hurlers played on Saturday, as did our Minor hurlers, while our Under 14 footballers were in Féile na n-Óg action on Sunday. Here's a round up of these matches.

Hurling League
Ita's 4-9 Sliabh Rua 3-17
visitors, Sliabh Rua, hit the sod running (and scoring) in Páirc Uí Chinnéide last Saturday. They had secured 1-5 on the board before we settled into the action. We closed the gap, scoring 1-2 without reply but they did not allow us to catch or overtake them. They upped the ante and broke through our defence again, increasing their early lead by tacking on a further 1-3. We tried hard and kept it close with some fine long range points, but their third goal just before the half time whistle put us on the back foot again and left the score board reading 3-8 to 1-6. With a handicap of minus 8 going into the second half, we had our work cut out for us, but we grouped well as a team and more importantly we hurled like Trojans in the opening twenty minutes. Our rewards came, as we secured a hat-trick of goals and some fine points, and dominated our visitors in this period. We were heading for a nail biting finale as we had their lead down to the minimum at 3-12 to 4-8. Alas, the closing minutes belonged to the Sliabh Rua boys as they tapped over a further five points to our reply of just one. Ag an fheadóg deireadh, le scór do 3-17 i gcoinne 4-9, d'fhágamar slán d'ár gcuairteoirí and to the league points from this game. Our next outing in this league is next Saturday as we travel to Ahavine to challenge our near neighbours Fr. O Neill's.

Fé 14 Féile Peil na n-ÓgIta's 2-10 Carrigaline 3-9
On Mothering Sunday, March 14, the Mums(and Dads) of Killeagh-Itas and Carrigaline escorted their fé 14 boys to the playing pitch of Killeagh to contest the opening round of this years Féile Competition. This is an open County Competition, run on a knockout system, with the eventual County winner going on to contest the All Ireland series,( in the key of 'E', “road is long”)! For the next hour both teams gave it their all to secure victory and advance in the competition, and that is what we witnessed from these dedicated young men and their mentors: who were eagerly cheered on by their supporters. Playing with the aid of a slight breeze, we took advantage and secured a four point lead in the opening fifteen minutes despite the pressure on us from the Carrigaline defence. However they came more into the game and worked well to break through and level matters on the twenty second minute, having scored the opening goal of the game followed by a point. We edged ahead again with points from Eoghan Keniry and Cian Greene, but Carrigaline pulled one back and then went in front when they secured goal number two. Trailing by three points and with the short whistle approaching, Gary Leahy had a plan, executing the ball into the Carrigaline net, to once again level matters. We just about heard the half time whistle over the cheers of the supporters Ag leath am, bhíomar ar chomh-scór: Killeagh/Ita's 1-7; Carrigaline 2-4. The second half saw further evidence of dedication and commitment from these two teams. The opening score came in the eighth minute for the Carrigaline boys, and they added a further three to their tally without reply. A few positional changes worked well for us and we pegged back two points from the boots of Darragh Cahill and Dan Smiddy. At this point we had some misfortune with our frees going right and left of the target. Time was running out, with just two minutes remaining on the clock when disaster struck as goal number three for the Carrig boys rocked our net. We battled on and deep into injury time Dan secured our second goal, but alas it was too late. The final whistle blew and we remained two points adrift. It was not to be our day. Nevertheless, well done boys and to our mentors, and we wish Carrigaline all the best as they progress in the competition.

Fé 12 Hurling Challenge v Killeagh-Ita's
Our Under 12 hurlers travelled to picturesque Lismore on Saturday afternoon last for a useful workout against the local hurling fanatics. While we didn't win the match, we learnt loads, and it gave us lenty of food for thought. The focus switches to football now for the next few weeks, with a sequence of league matches scheduled for April.
Fé 10 Decky Guckian Hurling LeagueIta's 5-0 Watergrasshill 3-4
Under 10 hurlers broke their duck in an exciting encounter with Watergrasshill on Saturday morning last. We did it the hard way, trailing in each of the four 10 minute periods until a storming last quarter saw us score 3 goals to overcome a 4 point deficit and edge home by 2 points. In truth, a draw might have been a fair result, as both teams were evenly matched. The wide spaces led to a good open game of hurling, with Kieran Daly, Dylan Hogan and Adrian Galvin helping to steady things in defence, while Andrew Foley and James Kent did well at the other end of the field. Well done also to Jason Collins, making his debut as reiteoir i lár na páirce. Our next outing is away to Mayfield on Saturday next (20) at 2.00 p.m., while our Fé 10 footballers will play their first game of 2010 away to Aghada on Wednesday 24 at 6.00 p.m.

Leagues Time
Yes, you know we're in to full-scale action when Parish Leagues come around again. We start with Under 12 football for all boys born in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Battle commences this Thursday (18) at 5.00 p.m. in Páirc Uí Chinnéide. Bígí ann, a pheileadóirí!

V.H.I Cul Camp (Summer Camp) will take place in Killeagh on from July 12 to 15 this year. Any queries, please contact Ursula on 087-6292646 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 087-6292646 end_of_the_skype_highlightingoverdue now for 2010 - please pay Ursula (€25, or €50 per family) a.s.a.p.

Week Ending March 7 2010

With the Ides of March close at hand, GAA activity is moving inexorably into top gear. This weekend saw our Under 10's Under 14's and Under 15's in action, with mixed outcomes.

é 15 'A' East Cork Football Final.
2-8 Killeagh-Ita's 1-6
Sunday last the N25 in East Cork was a hive of activity as The Bikers (on a fundraising run for the conjoined little twins) and the bus loads of young footballers from Midleton and Killeagh-Ita's all travelled along it. The Bikers headed for Dungarvan while the footballers branched off for Pilmore to contest this years' East Cork Final of the Fé 15 'A' Football Championship cois farraige. Blown into action by referee Sean Oliphant, Ian O Brien opened the scoring for the boys in green who were playing with the aid of the breeze. Midleton fared very well against this breeze and their centre forward blazed through for their opening score, a goal, to which they quickly added a fine point. We then began to dominate the score board and some fine points from the boots of Matthew Murphy (2) and Gary Leahy had the sides on level terms le fiche trí noiméad ar an uaireadoir. By the close of this half the teams remained deadlocked, each scoring a further 1-1 each, with our scores courtesy of a goal from Ian and Dan Smiddy's point. An scór ag leath-am: Cilliath-Íde 1-5; Mainistir na Corann 2-2. Against the breeze in the second half, we failed to penetrate it as well as Midleton had. Both teams exchanged points in the opening minutes, but alas this was to be our only score of this half. The Midleton boys, with the aid of the wind, found the target on five more occasions and ran out East Cork Champions on a final score of Midleton 2-8 to Killeagh-Ita's 1-6. Congratulations to Midleton, and many thanks to our boys for the enjoyment of the past three weekends. Well done to our management team, Declan, Conor and J.P - a very promising start to 2010 even if the silverware eluded us on this occasion.

Fé 14 'D' Football LeagueIta's 4-5, Lisgoold 3-1
Saturday evening last our Fé 14 second squad travelled to Lisgoold for their opening game of this football league campaign. We were quickly on our way, getting a dream start of a super goal from Killian Treacy. Playing 12 a side on the full pitch, we had a lot of ground to cover, so possession was vital. We played some fine football and had good co-ordination; we worked well as a team and reaped the rewards. Corner forward Padraig Delaney scooped our second goal of the day, followed closely by two points, one each from Kevin Fennelly and Killian. At this point Lisgoold upped the ante and broke through our defence to secure their opening score- a goal! Keeping their eyes on the ball, they won the kick out and again forced their way through our defence and found the back of our net once more - goal no.2 for the Lisgoold boys. With just two points separating the sides and the half way mark approaching, we pulled out all the stops and edged our way towards the Lisgoold goal where Mikey O'Sullivan found his spot and buried home our third goal of the game. At the sound of the half-time whistle, Killeagh-Ita's led by 3-2 to 2-0. Both teams resumed with all guns blazing. In the third quarter both teams added 1-1 to set up a tightly balanced finish. The final quarter saw Lisgoold play their hearts out but they failed to increase their tally, while on the other hand the Killeagh-Ita's boys were rewarded with two further points from Killian and Padraig Walsh. As the man in the middle drew this game to a conclusion, we had bagged the league points on a score of 4-5 to 3-1.
Fé 10 Decky Guckian Hurling League1-1 Killeagh-Ita's 1-0
young U-10 hurlers opened their campaign in the Decky Guckian League on Saturday last with an entertaining game against Youghal. There was little to separate the teams, and in spite of great efforts from all 19 players, we just failed to close the gap, with the whistle beating us at the end. Ní raibh an t-ádh linn ar an lá seo, ach beidh laethanta agus cluichí eile againn. A lot will have been learnt from the first day out, so we look ahead now to the visit of Watergrasshill in Round 2 next Saturday, March 13 at 11.00 a.m. in Killeagh.

A Football Championship Semi-Final: Ita's 2-11 Youghal 1-4
conclusion of the shortest month brought us some cheer when we overcame Youghal in their home territory of Copperalley on Sunday last. Winning the toss, captain Shane McCarthy opted to play with a strong breeze in the opening half, which proved to be a wise decision. Matthew Murphy got us off the mark with our opening point almost from the throw in, and Ian O Brien added two to our tally before Youghal registered their opening point, which was to be their only score of this half. We had to push on to maximise the advantage of the breeze, or else we would be facing an uphill battle in the second half. Matthew Murphy, ár laoch na h-imeartha, despite being closely marked by two Youghal players, managed to kick over our next four points while Ian added two more to leave the half time score, Killeagh-Ita's 0-9, Youghal 0-1.
into the second half, our supporters wondered if we had secured enough with the wind and if we could defend against the Youghal forwards. Once back into action, we set about our task valiantly, in aghaidh na gaoithe. Matthew converted our opening free, but then we saw Youghal break through our defence and drive home the opening goal of the gameThey soon added a well taken point to their tally from a free, before we saw a good build up from the Killeagh-Itas boys culminate in Shane Smiddy rocking the Youghal net for a great goal. The remainder of the half ebbed and flowed, with few scores but plenty of commitment from both sides. Youghal added two more points while Eoghan Keniry cancelled out one raised a white flag for the boys in green. It was Matthew who rounded off the day's proceedings with a well taken and well deserved second goal for us, ensuring our place in this year's East Cork Final. Ag deireadh an lae, bhíomar ró-láidir d'ár gcomharsana. When the final whistle was blown, the little black book read Killeagh-Ita's 2-11, Youghal 1-4. We now face the Midleton boys in the East Cork Final on Sunday next, March 7, with the venue to be decided. Go n-éirí libh, a bhuachaillí.
on the subject of wishing good fortune, let's hope that our U-10 boys will do as well when they visit Youghal on Saturday next (6) at 3.00 p.m. to play Youghal in the first league match in the Decky Guckian Hurling League. Training has been going well, and remember, boys, whether you win or lose, if you do your best, you always win! We also have our U-14 footballers commencing their campaign on Saturday next at home to Kiltha Óg, good luck to you boys also!
, we have two positive messages to convey as we turn the corner into one of the busiest GAA months of the year, when every blade of grass on every pitch is required by every single team. Firstly, our Coaching Course, under the guidance of Mr. Tom Pierce, proved highly successful last weekend, with a great turnout of potential Brian Cody's and Mickey Harte's, young and more mature! Secondly, our irrepressible chairman Ray is recovering dangerously quickly from his first encounter with the surgical ward in half a century, and will be patrolling sidelines, meeting rooms and all other GAA venues before you can shout “Mountmellick”! The only thing puzzling everyone in Killeagh is how they managed to keep you quiet during the surgery, Ray! You can't keep a good man down, and you certainly can't keep a great one down!

Championship: Killeagh-Ita's 6-10 Castlelyons 3-7
íomar ár gclár don bhliain seo Dé Domhnaigh seo caite. Our Juvenile Championship action of 2010 began on Sunday last on the sod of Pilmore as our Fé 15 footballers took on the challenge of Castlelyons. Our nippy corner forward was quick off the mark to register our opening score of the game and season. We dominated the opening quarter, adding to our tally with a hat-trick of points from Ian O'Brien, although Castlelyons kept in touch at the other end with some well taken points of their own. We edged ahead with two fine goals from Eoghan Keniry, but as the game progressed, the intensity rose and Castlelyons fought back bravely. They closed the gap by adding 1-1 to their tally before Matthew Murphy tapped over our final score in advance of the half time whistle, leaving us with our heads above water, by the water's edge, leading 2-5 to 1-6 at the interval.ús an dara leath, it was all guns blazing from both sides. Castlelyons opened the scoring and further closed in on us, to leave the minimum between the sides. Ian O'Brien gave us some breathing space, securing two goals, but these were quickly cancelled out as Castlelyons broke through our defence and secured two of their own. These opening minutes were nerve wracking for players, managers and spectators. At this point the Killeagh/Ita's mentors decided on a match-winning positional switch. Moving out Gary Leahy proved to be the turning point of this game, as Castlelyons did not score for the remainder. We took control and dominated to the final whistle, with both Eoghan and Ian securing their hat-trick of goals for the day, followed by a flurry of points from Brendan Delaney, Matthew Murphy and Ian O'Brien. Ag deireadh an lae, bhí an bua again. We ran out worthy winners, 6-10 to 3-7 and advanced to the semi-final stage of this championship where we will encounter Youghal. Tosach maith, a dhéagóirí!news, we're heading for March 1 next week, so a timely reminder to all players that membership must be paid (€25 per player, €50 per family) by the end of February. Please hand this in to Ursula or to your team manager as soon as possible. term break gives all our daoine óga some respite from school this week, but it's still early days in the GAA calendar. Nonetheless, as seamlessly as the daylight stretches our sunrises and sunsets ever further apart, the action ratchets up day by day, week by week. On Sunday 7 our Under 13's had their first match of the season, playing Sarsfields in their all-weather pitch in Riverstown, where both teams benefitted from a useful workout. We are now in the tail end of the indoor hurling season for our Under 12's and Under 8's in Youghal, with the eager anticipation of Mondays and Tuesdays helping children and adults alike to ease into the new season without the threat of hypothermia or frostbite setting in.
, the Under 10's will be in need of a rather large diary and a good satellite system in 2010, it appears. Starting in March with the nine-match Decky Guckian Hurling League, these young lads will have plenty of matches and travel over the next few months. Training continues on Saturday next at 2.30, except this time we transfer our attention to the big ball with our first football training session. Bígí ann, a bhuachaillí!
Under 14's and 16's have also begun their activities, in both hurling and football. Some of our Under 14's have been selected for Imokilly trials this week, and we wish them the best in their efforts. Our Under 15 footballers open their season this week with their East Cork fixture against Castlelyons, which has been scheduled for Killeagh on Saturday next (20) at 3.00 p.m.

áinig an bháisteach ar ais ach leanamar ar aghaidh leis an imirt. In spite of the wet week, activities are increasing all the time on the field of play, with the Under 10's joining the fray on Saturday last with their first hurling training session. It will be a busy year for these young boys as they prepare for lots of tournaments and matches, with the eagerly anticipated Decky Guckian League first up next month. Training continues next Saturday from 2.30 to 3.30, so bígí ann gan teip!
what's for the adults? Club officers are putting the finishing touches to a planned Foundation Level Coaching Course on the weekend of February 26 / 27, and we have some places still available for those currently assisting with training or those who might like to get involved in assisting a team. Contact Ursula on 087-6292646 as soon as possible if you're interested in attending - this course is fun and informative, with the emphasis on practical ways of improving young players and a focus on the Go Games and Ú Can Awards scheme.
reminders to parents: (a) membership is now due for the 2010 season (€25 per juvenile player, €50 per family, and (b) it is recommended by GAA authorities that players should only use hurling helmets that are IS 355 approved. This is the only standard recognised by the Association, and currently 3 brands fulfill this standard. They are Azzurri, Marc and Mycro. So check that helmet, and make sure it's the right one. Helmets are available to buy at discounted prices in the club shop, which is open every Saturday from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., along with lots of other club merchandise. Anois teacht an Earraigh, beidh an lá ag dul chun síneadh (Ó Reachtaire an file) - well thankfully Spring has arrived and it's all systems go with our GAA action. What are the first signs of Spring? Well, the mornings and evenings are giving us some more light, and the GAA pitches are seeing some action as young and not so young come out of hibernation. In Killeagh-Ita's our Under 12's commenced their football and hurling training on Saturday last with a fine turnout on a beautiful morning, under the watchful eye of coaches Adrian, Declan and Mark. Training continues on Saturday mornings at 11.00 for the next few weeks with this group. Our Under 8 hurlers were also in action on Saturday last, albeit at an indoor blitz hosted by the Youghal club, where they defeated both the hosts and Cois Bhríde in their two very enjoyable 7-a-side games. This coming week, the U-10's will get going on Saturday afternoon (6) in Páirc Uí Chinnéide at 2.30 p.m., so all boys born in 2000 and 2001 are asked to attend. We'd especially like new participants or perhaps players who may not have been involved in the past year to give it another shot. continues in Youghal for all Killeagh-Ita's boys fé-12 for the next 4 weeks, with large numbers attending Under 12 hurling on Monday evenings and Under 8 hurling on Tuesday evenings. If you haven't joined yet, come along!pitch, our Juvenile Committee held its first meeting of 2010 on Friday last, under the stewardship of Ray Rochford. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 4 at 8.30 p.m. in our new meeting rooms, with all committee members asked to attend. There's lots to be done but if the workload can be shared then everyone (adult and child) is more likely to enjoy it more and learn more. A pháistí, bígí ag imirt, agus beidh na daoine fásta ag pleanáil!

the snow is gone, and we can look ahead once more and think about training, games and fun. Ar aghaidh linn leis an bliain nua! Killeagh-Itas Juvenile Club held their AGM on Wednesday January 20 at the new meeting rooms in Páirc Uí Chinnéide, where a large attendance was presented with another superb report by secretary Ursula Coleman. With Ray Rochford in the chair, the meeting was held in a typically efficient and business-like manner, with room for the odd moment of hilarity also. While we reflected on the many glories and some disappointments of 2009, we were also left in no doubt that we now needed to focus on what's ahead in 2010 and continue the hard work that has been the hallmark of the club in the recent past.

following officers were elected for 2010 at the AGM:: Sean Treacy Presidents: John Prendergast, Denis Collins, Jim Griffin, Dick DooceyChairman: Ray Rochford Chairman: Paul Fogarty : Ursula Coleman Secretary: Mary Fitzgibbon R.O: Colman Motherway P.R.O: Ted O Brien Board Delegate: Dominic FogartyBoard Delegate: Ray Rochford Cork Juvenile Board Delegates: Helen Cusack & Martin O Connor
first planned activity for the new year took place on Sunday last, January 24, when coaches, parents and young players gathered in our hurling hall where Liam O'Reilly, fitness coach of Killeagh's Senior Hurling Panel, held an informative and enlightening talk on the development of underage health and fitness. This was the theory - let's hope all those attending (and those not attending) can put Liam's words of wisdom and advice into practice!
