U21 Hurling Championship
Killeagh 2-15 v Carigtwohill 1-22 (ae/t)
On Sunday evening we travelled to Castlelyons for the quarter final of the U21 Hurling championship. We couldn’t have asked for a better start we were 1-2 to a point within 5 minutes. We were 2-3 to 3 points after 10 minutes compliments to a penalty from Kevin Lane. Our defence continued to repel the Carrigtwohill attack while Sean Long and Kevin Lane kept the scoreboard ticking over. We went in at the break at a respectable 2-7 to 5 point lead.Carrigtwohill began the second half with intent scoring 3 without reply before Alan Keniry opened our account.Carrigtwohill closed the gap to 4 points. The elusive goal that they sought came 10 minutes from the end and the quickly gained momentum, within 5 minutes we found ourselves 4 points down. Credit where credit is due we never dropped our heads and Kevin Lane brought us back to within a point and on the stroke of full time the awarding of a free meant extra time. Carrigtwohill got off to a blistering start in the opening 10 minutes going 5 points clear without reply. Kevin Lane added 3 points to bring us within 2 points. A few chances on the line but unfortunately time ran out. Well done to all concerned.

There was no winner of this week’s lotto jackpot. The numbers drawn were 7,22,and 34 . Jackpot now stands at €1,600. Carmel Murphy, James Hegarty, Joe Gould and Tim Byrnes won €30 each.
Junior B Huling:
Killeagh 5-9 v Watergrasshill 2-9
Our good vain of form continued as Watergrasshill travelled to Killeagh for our 4 game in Junior B league. We got off to a blistering start Shane Scully rattled the net 3 times and by half time the scoreline stood at 3-8 to 3 points. One could be forgiven for thinking that the points were in the bag but in the first fifteen minutes of the second half it was all Watergrasshill, scoring 2-4 to bring them right back into the game. But we settled and tacked on another few scores and widened the gap again with a final scoreline of 5-9 to 2-9.
Killeagh 3-12; v Erins Own 1-9;
On Wednesday evening Erins Own travelled to Killeagh for our second game of the week and it could be understandable that we were a small bit sluggish for the first 10 minutes after our game in Monday night. An all round impressive performance saw only a score separate us at half time. A stronger performance in the second half saw us win out comfortably on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-9. To make it 5 wins out of 5 in the league. Erins Own will also be our first round Junior A championship opponents which is fixed for the 26 June time and venue to be announced.
Fixture Monday 13 Junior Hurling Div 2 v Dungourney in Dungourney at 7.45p.m.
Senior Hurling:
Killeagh 1-8 v Glen Rovers 2-21;
Our first round senior championship game may not have gone according to plan we came up against a side who hadn’t won a first round championship game since 2007 and were beaten in their opening round championship game last year by na Piarsaigh by almost the same score and reached a county final for the second time in three years. So heads up all is not lost. They had a god day at the office and we had a bad day. If their good vain of form continues they will surely be title contenders. Our second round opponents will either be Midleton or Bishopstown and that will be this weekend.

Senior Hurling League: Killeagh 4-10; Midleton 2-11;
On Saturday evening we played Midleton in our final game before championship which now looks due to take place on the new date of Friday 3(to be confirmed). A fast lively and entertaining game of hurling by both sides saw plenty of scores in the opening 10 minutes with 1-5 apiece. There was never much between the two teams and a late goal on the stroke of half time saw us edge in front at the break on a score line of 2-6 to 1-8. Midleton blasted into the second half with a goal and 2 points in the opening 5 minutes. We settled and composed ourselves and started tacking on the scores but it was the goals that made the difference, 2 in total to bring the final score to 4-10 to 2-11. We picked up a few injuries during the game and wish the lads a speedy recovery.

Senior Hurling:
On Friday evening our senior hurlers travelled to Bishopstown for a Senior League hurling game. With a strong breeze in our favour Joe Deane opened our account. Then Andy, Larry, Bugsy and Mark kept the score board ticking over while the midfield and defence stood firm, holding Bishopstown to 3 points at half time to our 8 points. Now that the shoe was on the other foot in the second half Bishopstown attacks were relentless, while Joe Deane kept us in touch scoring all but one of our scores in the second half. Bishopstown managed to add 10 points to ther second half account. With time almost up and defeat seeming eminent a long range point from none other than Mark Landers tied things up right on the whistle with the final score of 13 points apiece.

Junior A Football Championship Quarter Final:
Our search for Junior A footballing glory continued over the weekend when we travelled to Copper Raleigh Youghal to take on our neighbours Fr. O’Neills. On a blustery wet evening we won the toss and started with the wind to our backs. Johno was in superb form opening our account with 3 unanswered points. Mark was in poaching form again adding a goal before Fr. O’Neills responded. Joe Deane, Sean Long, Andy Walsh and Brian Collins all kept the scoreboard ticking over. We went in at the break 1-8 to 0-4. The second half was a less exciting affair with one score in 18 minutes. With 10 minutes to go it looked all but over but a Fr. O’Neills goal saw just 6 points between us but we continued to defend gallantly and held out to advance to the semi final on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-5.
Junior Hurling:
On Junior 3 League North Bride Rovers travelled to Killeagh on Sunday morning. Bride Rovers opened the first half with a strong wind to their backs and notched up 1-6 to our 0-5 at half time. With the aid of a strong breeze and a tongue lashing from Ray at half time we got straight down to business and opened our second half account with a goal and from there on it was one way traffic. Some great individual performances which sees us with 43 wins out of 4 in the league and top of the table. Congratulations to all Final Score.

We held our Buster night at Youghal Greyhound track last Friday which was a huge success. A great social event which was hopefully enjoyed by everyone who attended. The winning combination ticket of €500 was won by none other than our own Mark Landers. Nollaig Barry, Tommy Daly, Kathy Harnody, Jim Bennett and James Cunnigham each won €100. The race itself was won by Premier County man JJ Fennelly’s dog “ Burgess Millar”. We also held our 200 club draw which we drew 18 names which are published on our website. We also drew for €1,000 which was by Ian Lynch. Congratulations to all concerned and a big thank you to everyone who supported the night.
U21 Football East Cork Final
Our U21’s travelled to Caherlag on Saturday evening to take on Carrigtwohill for the prestigious Jack Murphy Cup. Playing with a strong breeze we opened our account after five minutes with some great individual scores opening up a 5 point lead. A penalty on the 13 minute despatched by Sean Long saw the score line stand at 1-5 to 2 points. We tacked on 3 more points coming up to the break with a late surge from Carrigtwohill saw us go in at the break with a score of 1-8 to 1-3. Carrigtwohill with the wind at their backs surged forward to narrow the gap between us and at one stage managed to bring it back to 2 points before Kevin Lane goaled to give us a 5 point cushion. A goal in injury time for Carrigtwohill left us with a very nervous ending but we held on to claim back the trophy we last won in 2005. Read Declan Barron’s full report in the East Cork Journal.

Junior A Football Championship
On Sunday evening last Glenbower Rovers travelled to Ballinacurra to take on East Cork rivals Erins Own on the third round of the Championship. On a damp miserable bank holiday evening which left conditions slippery to say the least, it took fifteen minutes for the opening score to arrive and it was Erins Own who drew first blood and cruised into an early lead, with 3 unanswered points. Mark Landers opened our account followed quickly by Sean Long before Mark Landers rattled the net and added another point before half time. We went in at the break 1-3 to 6 points. Both teams traded scores with little between the sides until Erins Own were awarded a penalty which was despatched beyond net minder Shane Scully, to put them 2 points in front, a lead at which they held onto until the 27 minute, then popped up Joe Deane with 2 points from play to see us all square at the whistle at 1-9 apiece. Extra time beckoned. A point a piece was the outcome after 10 minutes of extra time. The final 10 minutes saw both teams push for the elusive win and with one minute to go the score stood at 1-11 apiece, and then a free on the 30 yard line was slotted over the bar by none other than Joe Deane. To see a final score of 1-12 to 1-11. The quarter final is provisionally pencilled on for 8 May. Our opponents our near neighbours Fr. O’Neills. Time and Venue to be confirmed.
Junior Hurling
Results junior hurling div 3 north Killeagh 6-10 Castlelyons 0-10. This game was played in Castlelyons on Thursday 21. This was very competitive we scored the goals and they failed to put away their chances to give a misleading score line. The dynamic Mike Fitzgerald at mid-field kept a good supply of ball travelling to his forwards where a rampant Ger Collins bagged three goals. All players contributed well.
Junior Hurling Div 3 North: Killeagh 2-6, St. Catherines 1-7. Two more points were bagged in Ballynoe on Monday 25 in a dogged encounter where the champagne hurling of last Thursday was replaced by a great workman like display that ground out a result to be proud of. We had no star displays and every one made significant contribution, but it should be noted that Shane Scully notched 2 goals and 3 points from play.

U21 Football Championship - Glenbower Rovers 4-16 Carrignavar 4-10 (after extra time).
This was a hard earned victory for our U21 footballers. This proved to be a very entertaining and competitive contest by two great footballing teams. Carrignavar went 1-1 ahead in the opening minutes before David Cahill rattled the net and got us on the score sheet. We knuckled down from there on with our midfield taking control of the game and our back line solid in defence. Both teams traded scores to see us level at half time on a scoreline 2-5 to 1-8. Second half started brightly with an inch perfect pass from Tadgh O'Connor to the waiting Sean Long who rattled the net. Within minutes Carrignavar were level. A controversial goal by Carrignavar stunned us temporarily and with only 7 minutes left on the clock we found ourselves trailing by three points. To be fair the lads never gave up and we tacked on two more points and a free at the death to send us into extra time. Again we started brightly with points from Johnny Rohan and Alan Keniry that saw us open the gap before Kevin Lane goaled on the stroke of half time to see us go in 4-13 to 3-10 at the beak. Tadgh O'Connor opened the scoring for the second half. We then conceded a penalty to Carrignavar which gave them a glimmer of hope but we stuck to the task and tacked on three more points to see us win out on a scoreline of 4-16 to 4-10 and advance to the semi-final. Well done to all involved.

Senior Hurling Championship - Our involvement in this years senior hurling championship came to a dramatic end on Sunday evening in Midleton. After a slow start we were 7 points to 2 down after 20 minutes with Sars growing in strength in key areas of the field and we had several missed scoring opportunities to get us back into the game. Joe Deane added two points to bring his tally to four to send us in at the break 8 points to 4 down. We emerged after the break a different team and the fight back began. Within 15 minutes we were back on level terms at 9 points a piece and we had Sars on the backfoot as we went in search of that illusive goal, Andy Waslh coming close and rattling the crossbar. From there on both teams traded scores and with 3 minutes to go the sides were level and a deserved replay looked on the cards. However two late points from Sars put an end to this years campaign. It was a performance that all concerned should be very proud of. Keep the faith, there are better things to come.

Eric McCarthy is hosting a race night in the Old Thatch, Killeagh on Friday night in aid of his 250km Sahara desert run for the Irish Cancer Society. Please support this mad idea but very worthy cause. The night kicks off at 9pm. All welcome.

U21 Hurling Championship - We travelled to Lisgoold on Sunday evening for our first round in U21 Hurling Championship. Carrignavar were our opposition. It was a tense opening 5 minutes before Philip O'Neill broke the deadlock with a long range free. Carrigs response was instant. We hit a purle patch and scored 4 points without reply. We out scored Carrig 10 points to 6, seven of those were super scores from play. The second half never lived up to the first half. In 25 minutes we scored 4 points clear to Carrigs 2 to put us 6 points ahead with less than 4 minutes to go. A Carrig free that wasnt dealt with in the square was deflected to the net. It was now a 3 point game and Carrig got a new lease of life. A point from play pushed our lead to 4 points. The resulting puck out landed in the hand of Carrig's no.11 who travelled 50 yards amd rifled it to the back of the net. We managed to hang on til the final whistle and advance to the next round. Well done to all concerned.

Senior Hurling League - Ballinhassig travelled to us last Friday evening for a game that never sparked in the opening half as there seemed to be little between the sides. Two points separated us at half time. The second half was a different story and our lads upped the anty. It was a welcome return to senior hurling for Brendan Barry and this game saw us take the spoils on a scoreline of Killeagh 3-15 Ballinhassig 1-14.

Junior Hurling Championship - Killeagh 0-9 Erin's Own 1-21.
Kevin O'Connor's charges went up against big guns Erin's Own in Rostellan on Sunday evening. The opening 20 minutes saw little between both sides. Erin's Own had four on the board before we got off the mark however. With 20 minutes gone it was 7 points to 3. Then Erin's Own began to find their range. Half time Erin's Own 0-12 Killeagh 0-3.
We started brightly in the second half and narrowed the gap to five points. Again Erin's Own upped the anty and pulled away. We never gave up and it was a gallant performance right to the end. Well done to all involved.

Fixtures - U21 Hurling vs Carrignavar, Sunday 1st at 7pm in Castlelyons.

Junior A Hurling Championship - Killeagh 1-14 vs Cloyne 2-09
On Thursday night Kevin O'Connor's charges headed to Youghal's Copper Raleigh. Shocking weather conditions meant that this game was going to go down to be a dog fight right down to the wire. Cloyne opened the scoring in the opening minutes and then Stephen O'Brien got us going with his first of eight. Also opening their accounts was Noel O'Connor and David O'Keefe to see us go in at the break two points clear. In the second half both sides traded scores before Clint Galvin rattled the net to keep us in front but Cloyne's response was instant . We went three points ahead again but a late goal from Cloyne forced extra time. When we went ahead Cloyne levelled it but Stephen O'Brien and John Walsh steadied the ship along with a great team effort from all involved to see us through to the third round.
Scorers: S. O'Brien (0-8) C. Galvin (1-1) J. Walsh (0-2) J. Fogarty (0-1) N.O'Connor (0-1)

Junior A Hurling Championship - On Sunday evening Kevin O'Connor's charges headed to Castlelyons for their first round of championship againgst Carrig na bhFear. When any small club can field a second team it's great, what's even better is when that team can compete and be competitive against another club's first team. There was little between the sides in the opening exchanges, a puck of the ball in fact and at half time the scoreline read Carrig na bhFear 0-7 Killeagh 0-4. Carrig extended that lead to 3 pucks of the ball before we found the range and pegged them back to a puck of the ball once more and thoughts of a victory looked possible. However a couple of long ramge efforts pucshe Carrig ahead. Never the less a great performance from the boys in green. It finished on a scoreline of Carrig na bhFear 0-15 Killeagh 0-9.
Team: Shane Scully, Taghg O'Connor, Stephen O'Brien, Eddie Cashman, Paul Motherway, John Walsh, Clint Galvin, Brendan Keniry, David O'Keefe, Kevin Lane, Liam Kelly, Noel O'Connor, Alan Keniry, Stephen Murphy, Daniel Walsh.
Senior Hurling Championship - Killeagh 1-14 vs Cloyne 1-11.
On Friday night in Castlemartyr we came in search of a victory and by god did we get it. Manys a pundit that wrote us off, we even had a few locals that doubted us as well. But when Paudraig McGrath in his rousing team talk asked those men around him to shed blood if needs be for each other and this club then that victory would be ours. You would believe anything was possible on this night and we proved that we are entitled to our senior hurling status. Everything that needs to be read and said by all those pundits and sports writers will have been said and the game will have been well and truly disected so that's one less job for me, but what they wont say is how proud we are of those men on the field for what can only be described as a gallant performance. We eagerly await the next round.
A special mention to our main man between the sticks who lines out for the Kerry Senior Hurling team in the Christy Ring Cup this Saturday in Croke Park. An honour he richly deserves. We wish him the best of luck.

Junior A Hurling League - Killeagh 1-9 Erin's Own 3-9.
Our Junior hurlers travelled to Caherlag on last Thursday night and faced a well organised Erin's Own side. Goals win matches and it was Erin's Own who slipped three past us. A tight encounter otherwise meant there was little between both teams. At half time it was 3-06 to 1-6. But we couldnt breach the gap but we held our own in the second half.
Fixtures: Senior Hurling Championship vs Cloyne, Friday 25th at 7:30pm in Castlemartyr. Not to be missed!

U14 A East Cork Final vs Carrigtohill, Thursday 24th at 7pm in Caherlag.
Senior Hurling League - Killeagh 4-13 vs Sars 1-17. Sars travelled to us on Tuesday night for our latest league encounter. Both teams with a point to prove after being defeated in the opening championship games. This game got off to a flying start with very little to separate both sides. We went in at the break marginally ahead. The breaks came our way in the secons half and we held on to that lead for the remainder of the game and a well deserved victory on the night.
Killeagh 2-10 vs Erins Own 3-18. On Saturday evening we travelled to Caherlag hoping to build on our mid week victory in Killeagh. But Erin's Own still on a high from their championship first round victory had other ideas and curtailed our attacks and had our rear guard under pressure. Right from the off we lost a couple of key players early in the first half and that unsettled us in a game where we were always playing catch up. But we stil managed to clock up a respectable score which on other nights would win many a match. Over all a good performance and we look forward to Friday night in Castlemartyr.

Junior A Hurling - Sars 1-17 Killeagh 3-8. On Friday night our juniors took on Sars in Riverstown in the league in a game that manager Kevin O'Connor described as a cracker. From the throw in there was little between the sides. We went in at the break a well deserved two points up although some poor decisions had been made against us. What looked like two notably well taken points being waved wide by the referee. Sars pulled in front but with grit and determination we pulled it back to a point and we were awarded a late free. An indication that time was up from the referee we slotted it over the bar for a draw. However the ref allowed the game to continue for two minutes more and Sars goaled meaning our fourth defeat in the league. Hard luck and well done to the lads.

Senior Hurling Championship - On Friday night we didnt hav a good night in the office. A galllant performance by all and it was always going to be hard to call. Going in two points up at half time and the omens looked good but in the opening 5 minutes of the second half a Carrigtohill blitz seemed to shell shock us and we never recovered. A point from a free after 19 minutes was our only reward in the second half as Carrigtohill grew in confidence. If we lok at things on the bright side we are still in championship with loads to play for and after the weekend a lot of big guns got turned over so it should make for an interesting campaign this year.
Our next opponents are our near neighbours Cloyne which is pencilled in for the weekend of June 27th. Time and venue to be announced. Should be a cracker.

Senior Hurling League: It was a week of mixed fortunes for Killeagh Senior Hurlers. On Wednesday night we played St. Finbarr's in Killeagh. We opened brightly and took an early three point lead. In the opening half there were some great individual performances, Joe Deane unlucky not to rattle the net more than once. On the halfway mark we led 1-9 to 0-9. The Barr's started the second half with purpose and within the opening ten minutes we found ourselves trailing by two points. We tackewd on two to close the gap but two goals in quick succession killed any chance of a comeback. Final score St. Finbarr's 4-15 to Killeagh 1-13.
On Sunday evening we travelled to a Midleton to take on the Magpies. In ther opening five minutes Andy Walsh had us three points in front before Midleton opened their account. Midleton closed the gap and from there on in both teams traded scores until Joe Deane rattled the Midleton net to open the gap to two points and just before half time Mark Landers goaled from close range to leave the score 2-8 to 0-9 points in favour of Killeagh. The second half started much the same as the opening half and Killeagh maintained the five point lead as both teams traded scores. A goal midways through the second half from Midleton narrowed the gap to two points and with only minutes remaining we conceded a 21 yard free which was initially saved but found the back of the net through a rebound. Now on the backfoot and a point down a long puck out from Bernard Rochford found the hand of Joe Budds who tied the scores up just on the stroke of full time. Final score 2-13 to 2-13. There will be no more league fixtures now until after championship.

Junior A Football Quarter Final: Glenbower Rovers 0-6 Carrig na bhFear 0-11.
Lisgoold was the venue on Sunday evening for this quarter final tie. Carrig na bhFear got off to a flying start scoring 0-4 in the opening 10 minutes. It took until the 14th minute for Glenbower Rovers to register their first score courtesy of Sean Long. We settled well and Mark Landers and Larry Collins tacked on two more to leave it 0-4 to 0-3 going in at the break. Carrig na bhFear started the second half stronger opening their account in the first minute and in five minutes tacked on four in a row. It wasnt until Cian Fogarty enetered the fray after 15 minutes that we opened our account. Sean Long and John O'Connor added two more to bring our tally to 0-6. Its Carrig na bhFear who advance to the semi final stages. Anyone who wants an in-dept version of the game should read Declan Barron's column.
La na gClub: We held our La na gClub on Sunday last, there was a fantastic turn out with loads to see and do and with our lives being so busy with one thing and another it was nice to see some many people relaxed and having a good old natter and catching up. Glenbower Rovers 0-6 vs Bride Rovers 1-2:
In what can only be described as atrocious weather conditions and a very small crowd, Glenbower Rovers advanced to the next round of Junior A Football Championship. After a narrow victory in Ballynoe Saturday evening this was by no means a classic. In the opening half we fought driving rain and gale force winds and still managed to notch up 4 points to Bride Rovers two. With the wind at our backs we hoped to push on but it was nearly 10 minutes into the second half till we registered our first score and another 10 before we registered our second and final score of the game. With ten minutes to go and 4 points up one might have thought we had it all wrapped up but a Bride Rovers goal with five minutes to go made it a very tense closing 5 minutes. Two goal chances went a begging for us but we managed to cling on by a solitary point. We now face Carrignavar in the next round with date, time and venue to be announced.

Senior Hurling League - Blarney 2-12 Killeagh 1-8
After last week's display against The Glen a few of us could be forgiven for dismissing the Blarney challenge ever before a ball was struck. Blarney on the other hand had other ideas. In the opening 5 minutes Blarney were two points to one up. Their opening goal saw them open the gap to 5 points before Joe Deane, Sean Long and Larry Collins closed the gap to two points. Half time score Blarney 1-5 Killeagh 0-6. Blarney got off to a flying start in the second half notching up 1-2 before Philip O'Neill goaled from a 13 yard free. Scores were hard to come by as Blarney's rear guard snuffed out any attack that came their way, Joe added two more points but Blarney had found their range and tacked on another 5 points to finish the stronger side in this league encounter.

Glenbower Rovers 2-16 vs Fr O'Neills 1-14
A cracking Easter Sunday mornings entertainment was had by all who came to see this replay . It was Fr O'Neills who got off to a flying start with three unanswered points in the opening ten minutes before Joe Deane got us off the mark with a well taken goal. We knew then that this was going to go down to the line. After twenty minutes of great football we were tied at 1-04 a piece, Joe Deane, Brian Collins and Sean Long all getting on the scoreboard . Last week we went in to the break a point up, today a point down 1-08 to 1-07. The second half was more of the same with fifteen minutes gone we were still tied at 1-10 a piece, Joe Budds, John O'Connor and Sean Long all got on the score sheet making it 1-12 a piece. With five minutes to go our defence and midfield were on top, the chance of a penalty and two wides gone a begging O'Neills then break but their effort goes to the right and wide. Extra time again O'Neills are first to get off the mark. After six minutes John O'Connor found his range with two great points. Then came the break we were looking for. Timmy Murphy broke down an O'Neills attack and started one of our own. Joe Budds got on the end of it and rattled O'Neills net. Half time 2-14 to 1-13 . Our defence and midfield were outstanding all afternoon. O'Neills only managed to breach our rear guard once more to come to within a goal but a 45 from Joe cancelled that out. But it was Mark Landers who was going to have the last word with a well taken point to see the men from Glenbower advance to the draw stage of the championship. Well done to all involved.

Junior A football Championship Glenbower Rovers 2-14 vs Fr. O'Neill's 2-14 (after extra time).
In front of a small crowd on Saturday evening we opened our championship account against our near neighbours Fr. O'Neill's. It was they who got off to the better start putting 4 points on the scoreboard before Kevin Lane connected with a loose in the square to give us the opening goal. Fr. O'Neill's added two more to their account before we hit a purple patch and finished the stronger in the first half on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-6. Fr. O'Neill's were awarded a penalty in the opening quarter of the second half which was dispatched to the back of the net but shortly after Sean Long cancelled that out with a well taken goal of his own. The scoreline changed several times over the next twenty minutes. With two minutes to go we were two points in front. But Fr O'Neill's never gave up and were awarded a late 45 to level the match and force extra time. Full time score 2-9 a piece. In the first half of extra time Fr. O'Neill's took a three point lead but the never say die attitude of the men from Glenbower saw us close that gap and a last score of the game came from Joe Deane, one of his five in extra time, to level it and force a replay. No fixture has been made for the replay.
Scores: Kevin Lane 1-0, Sean Long 1-0, Joe Deane 0-7, John O'Connor 0-3, Mark Landers 0-2, Joe Budds 0-2.

As a club and a parish Killeagh GAA would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Fitzgibbon family on the loss of their mother Maureen who passed away over the weekend. May the soil of Killeagh rest lightly over her mortal remains and may her soul rest in peace.
On Sunday morning our Junior A footballers played Lisgoold in Killeagh. While it took a while to get going we looked inpressive with some passages of play and some fine individual scores as our midfield and defence stamped their authority on the game. Half time score Glenbower Rovers 0-6 Lisgoold 0-2. We started the second half with a purpose with Joe and Andy finding the net and some lads played crossbar challenge. We added three more points to see out the game. Glernbower Rovers 2-9 Lisgoold 0-2. Next weeks opponents will be a more formiddable force as they take on Fr O'Neill's in Junior A Championship on Saturday 27th at 4:30pm in Copper Raleigh, Youghal. Please Support!

Senior Hurling: Killeagh opened their senior hurling campaign against near neighbours and rivals Cloyne in Killeagh on Sunday morning. From the first whistle this game was played at a frantic pace and both teams can be forgiven for being a little rusty with some wayward wides. It was Killeagh's Andy Walsh who opened our account with a point from play and Joe Deane got off the mark with a 30 yard free. Again Andy Walsh popped up to smash home the opening goal. Cloyne soon got their opening score and then rattled our net before John Fitzgerald hit a superb long range point from play and Joe Deane tacked on two more. Cloyne's late rally just before half time saw both sides go in at the break with a score of 1-06. The breeze to our backs in the second half we opened with a purpose with Joe Deane goaling inside the second minute and Brian Collins and Joe adding 3 more points before Cloyne settled and tacked on two points. But our defence repelled attack after attack. Andy and Philip added two before Cloyne goaled again. An entertaining game on a beautiful spring morning saw us take maximum points in this opening league game game on a scoreline of Killeagh 2-14 Cloyne 2-10.

On Sunday evening our junior A footballers were out for their third league game of the season in Killeagh. In the opening quarter of the game there was little separating the sides but we gradually stamped our authority on the game with some great individual scores and the opening goal of the game scored by Joe Deane was just enough to edge us in front at half time. Glenbower Rovers 1-4 Ballinacurra 0-6. We emerged a different team in the second half adding a total of 3-6 to our tally while Ballinacurra only managed 0-2 which was down to some great defending. Final score: Glenbower Rovers 4-10 Ballinacurra 0-8.

Our under 15's played Castlelyons in the first round of the championship in Pilmore on Sunday evening. A very entertaining game that ebbed and flowed with only a point separating the sides right up until the last ten minutes when Killeagh/Ita's pulled away with a couple of fine goals to see us win it out on a scoreline of 6-10 to 3-7.
Our Junior A footballer's played Cloyne on Sunday in their third league outing. The first half was low scoring with both sides going in at half time with four points each. Not much improved the second half, Cloyne took the advantage and the scoreline finished Cloyne 1-10 to Glenbower Rovers 0-7.
Our senior hurlers played Milford in a challenge game on Saturday evening, while only a challenge this game had plenty of bite with players fighting for positions for the upcoming league.

We have no fixtures as of now for the upcoming week, keep an eye on the website.

14/2/10

Glenbower Rovers 0-8 vs Carrig na Bhfear 1-13.
We played our second league game of the season on Sunday 14th in Killeagh and we were looking to continue our good run. For much of the first half there was nothing between the two sides and there were some fine individual scores. It looked as if we were to take a two point lead into half time but Cariig na Bhfear snatched a goal to see the scoreline 1-4 to 0-6 points at the interval. As of last week we again failed to convert scores and only managed to tack on two points in the second half while Carrig na Bhfear found their range and added nine points to their tally. But overall it was a good performance and an enjoyable game of football to watch and maybe the wedding didn't help matters either. Congratulations to Thelma and James Fogarty on their marriage.

We didn't manage to have it all our own way in the second half, Aghada tacked on 1-6 to our 0-2 points in the second half leaving the final score Killeagh 2-11 to Aghada 1-7. JUNIOR A FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL:
Glenbower Rovers 4-08 Lisgoold 0-08
Our footballers ended the year on a winning note in Pairc Ui Chinneide, Killeagh on Sunday evening by winning the Patrick O'Mahony Memorial trophy. Both teams had an outstanding season, both unbeaten in the league. That was until the final game of the season. Poor weather conditions hampered what should have been a good game of football. But credit to both sides for an enjoyable game of football so late in the year. Lisgoold opened the scoring but points from Joe Deane and Ger Collins and goals from Andy Walsh and Joe Deane saw us go in at the break 2-4 to 0-5. Lisgoold hit a purple patch in the opening of the second half notching up another 3 points which could have been more except for some great defending by our defence. Then we found a rhythm again. Some well executed points from Padraig McCarthy, Joe Deane, John O'Connor and Stephen Murphy extended our lead before Brian Collins goaled twice to put it beyond Lisgoold's reach. Joe Deane accepted the trophy on behalf of Glenbower Rovers. Congratulations to all involved, silverware for the dinnerdance.

In the Senior Hurling League Semi Final last Tuesday night we travelled to Riverstown to take on Sars, with key players not available on the night it was always going to be an up hill battle, but battle we did with nothing between us in the opening exchanges. Sars hit a purple patch and notched up 1-12 to our 5 points, we opened the second half brighly with three unanswered points. Things were beginning to look up, however Sars were not going to let a league final show down with Newtown slip through their fingers and added another nine points to their tally. In the closing stages we found the net twice and raised the white flag once more. Final score: Sars 1-21 Killeagh 2 -09. Well done lads on a great years hurling.

JUNIOR A League Hurling Final
We played Dungourney on Saturday in the League Final in poor conditions and against a strong wind. In the opening half we failed to register a single score to their five points. We started brightly in the second half and started to close the gap and came to within two points at one stage and looked like we might steal it but a Dungourney attack rattled the Killeagh net and try as we may we couldnt claw it back and it finished on a scoreline of Dungourney 1-10 Killeagh 0-07. Abernathy Cup - On Saturday evening last our senior hurling team took on Cloyne in the final of the Abernathy Cup. This competition is run by the East Cork Juveniles Board to raise much need funds for our under age divisional teams so its nice to see that the seniors take an interest in the stars of the future.
With a leauge semi final against Sars coming up this game for the lads this was a measure of where we were at not to mention friendly local rivalry, pride of parish and all that goes with winning any trophy.
Against a strong breeze in the opening half Joe Deane opened our account from a 40 yard free before Cloyne responded with a goal. The lads settled and points came from Joe Deane, Larry Collins, Paudraig McCarthy, Sean Long and Joe Budds while our defence worked tirelessy to repel any Cloyne attack. The loss of Brendan Barry due to injury unsettled us momentarily but we managed to go in at the break 0-8 to 1-2 up. The second half was by no means a classic and unfortunetly saw tempers flare on several on occasions to see James Birmingham flash four red cards. When play resumed Joe Deane and Andy Walsh added two points a piece before Joe Budds slipped in behind the Cloyne defence to put himself in a one on one situation with Donal Og. He made no mistake firing it to the left corner of the net. That was to be the final nail in the coffin. Captain Paudraig McGrath accepted the Abernathy Cup from Regina Abernathy, Chairperson of the East Cork Juvenile Board.

GLENBOWER ROVERS
Our junior B footballers bowed out of this years championship in Cobh last Wednesday night to Glenville who proved too strong on the night. There was never much between both sides for long periods of the game to which scores were very hard to come by but the Glenville outfit found the range in the second half and just shaded it in the end. Glenbower rovers 2-02 Glenville 1-07.

SENIOR HURLING- Abernathy cup. Sunday afternoon we travelled to Rathcormack to play Bride Rovers in the semi final of the Abernathy Cup. While its late in the season and there are very few clubs still hurling our lad still have the appetite for it. While we had met the Bride for our championship opener many might have taught that this might have a bit of an edge to it but alas no, with a league semi final coming up our lads went at it like the championship game of the Summer. From the off the Killeagh boys meant business rattling the net twice and slotting over nine great points to Bride Rovers 1-04. We approached the second half in exactly the same way this time our mid field and defence were outstanding conceding just a single point to our forwards one eight. Final score Killeagh 3-17 bride rovers 1-05.

FIXTURES- Abernathy Cup , Killeagh vs Cloyne some time over bank holiday weekend. No date or venue at hand keep an eye on the website.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: On friday night last we travelled to to dungorney with a small band of vocal suporters to see if we could advance to the quarter final stages of the competition. The opening half ebbed and flowed both sides guilty of wayward wides. We went three points clear before Dungorney scored 1-1 in quick succession and we tacked on two more before the break. Killeagh 0-5 to Dungorney 1-1 at half time. Someone must have given them a good talking to at half time as we emerged a different team. One of the younger members of the team Joe Budds opened our goal scoring account and we tacked on another 7 points in the second half. But all was not over with the emergence of young at heart team member Noel Long known as the football head to many in Killeagh. Only 5 minutes on the park was on the receiving end of a pass from John Walsh, never panicked and slotted it into the right hand corner of the net and we emerged victorious on the night. Well done to all concerned.

Junior A East Cork Football Final!
On Sunday evening next at 6pm in Youghal our local heroes Glenbower Rovers will challenge for the Jim Ryan Memorial Cup a trophy that we would dearly love to win. Our opponents will be either Lisgoold or Cloyne which will be decided during the week. We have had a fantastic league campaign and 4 championship games thus far captained by Joe Deane. While football takes second place in the eyes of some this group of lads from our first outing in Cobh in Febuary have done the club proud. For the likes of selectors Noel Long, Caoimhin O'Driscoll, Declan Fogarty and Dennis Barry this has been a fantastic year. With only one more hurdle to jump and hopefully a historic day for the club we wish the lads and the management team the very best of luck on the day.

Last Tuesday night our U21 team in the first round of the championship took on Carrig na Bhfear in Lisgoold where under foot conditions were not suitable for good hurling, credit to both teams on an outstanding performance. We went in at the break 4 points up and in command but Carrig na Bhfear with the wind at their backs pegged us back which led to an intense finish where we managed to come away with a one point win. Final score Killeagh 0-13 Carrig na Bhfear 0-12.

Senior Hurling League - On Thursday evening Killeagh hosted Ballinhassig in our second last league game. This win puts us top of the table and into a league semi final. It was an entertaining game of hurling which saw some great individual scores and a good all round team performance. The final scorline read Killeagh 4-23 Ballinhassig 1-13. Congratulations to our Junior A Footballers on reaching the Junior A football final. We were probably labelled with the favourites tag but to be fair to Carrigtohill they really put it up to us and there was never much to separate the sides during the duration of the game. But goals win games and we got 3. Midways through the second half we were in front by 8 points but Carrigtohill never gave up and chipped away at our lead to leave a nail biting finish and 1 point the difference. The final score was Killeagh 3-5 Carrigtohill 1-10. The final is now fixed for the 13th of September in Youghal at 6pm.

Last Wednesday night saw us take another 2 points in the league when we played Newtownshandrum in Killeagh. This gives us 17 points and a second place in the league with eirns own ahead by 1 point. Both sides attacked this game from the start, which was a joy to watch fast, open hurling. There was never much between both teams until a high ball from Mark Landers was dropped into the back of the neck. This game turned in our favour, young guns Andy Welsh and Sean Long also rattled the net. While newtownshamrum attacked, our defence stood firm and centre field controlled the game right to the end. GOLF CLASSIC
Our golf classic took place over the weekend. 121 teams enjoyed a wonderful round of golf at the picturesque Youghal golf club. This classic raises much needed funds for pairc ui chinneide development. In times of recession, we lost many a sponsor and team but our golf classic committee worked very hard to replace them and make it as successful as any other year under the watchful eye of Ray Rochford. This year we were lucky to get 2 main sponsors: Rochford and Kenneally engineers, Fermoy Nissan, and the Mace shop, thanks to Pat McCarthy. We sincerely thank both sponsors. A special thanks also to the sponsors of the wonderful prizes and to all the teams who took part. Your efforts won't go unnoticed in our club. Course winners on 97 points were General Electronic Alarms sponsored by Donal Harnedy. Second were Premier Service Station, the all ladies team, and third was Paddy Coleman's team. Again, a big thanks to everyone concerned, and we hope to see you all again next year.

Congratulations to the Junior A hurling team on their hard earned win over Fr. O'Neill's in Copper Raleigh in Youghal on Saturday last. This was our first championship outing of 09. While both teams traded scores in the opening half Noel O'Connor's goal separated the sides at half time. This was a lead we never relinquished even tho Fr. O'Neill's did hit a purple patch and closed the game down to 3 points. We held on to win on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-9. We now look forward to the next round.

Junior B hurling league
On Sunday morning we played Watergrasshill in the league in Killeagh. This well contested game of hurling saw very little to separate both sides, Watergrasshill having the upper hand at half time. With the wind at our backs in the second half we picked off some good scores. Then entered the Prodigal Son in the form of substitute Micheal "Fong" Byrne at full forward who not long on the field scored our only goal of the game. Watergrasshill came back at us and picked off some good scores but when the final whistle blew one point was difference. We ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-10 0-12.

SHL
On Friday night last Killeagh seniors travelled to Togher to take on St.Finbarr's. Both sides with the third round of championship on their minds and players eager to impress. St. Finbarr's with the wind advantage in the opening half scored 3 points in the opening quarter before Joe scored 2 to open our account. Scores from Brendan, Eoin and Joe again concluded our tally for the first half. Half time score :Killeagh 0-5 St. Finbarr's 0-7.
The opening of the second half saw us go in front by 2 points with scores from Kieren Lane (2), John O'Connor and Brendan Barry. Both sides traded scores for the first 20 minutes before a mix up in the Killeagh defence saw the Barr's score the only goal of the game. Killeagh quickly re-aserted themselves with scores from Eoin Loughlin, Joe Budds and Joe Deane and should have gone further ahead but 2 great strikes by Joe Budds were well saved by the Barr's keeper. On the stroke of full time we were 2 points up but within the four minutes of injury time the Barr's scored 2 points to level the game. Full time score: Killeagh 0-17 St. Finbarr's 1-14.

Junior A Hurling
On the 2nd of June the junior hurlers travelled to Carrignavar to take on Carrignavar in junior A league. Half time score: Killeagh 0-8 arrignavar 0-6.
Second half started much the same until a long clearance from Mark Landers inside his own half seemed to find its way into the back of the Carrignavar net. But Carrignavar plugged away and a penalty which was initially saved on the line was scored from the rebound. But Killeagh had done enough to see us win out on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-11.

Glenbower Rovers 3-10 Erins Own 0-03

For the third time this year in the Jim Ryan Cup both sides lined out in Midletion on Sat evening for the quarter final. With the wind at our backs in the opening half Davy Kelleher opened our account with a fine long range point. We were a little rusty in the opening ten minutes before Padraig, Mark, Sean and Joe got on the score sheet. Erins Own tacked on two to stay in touch. Andy Walsh entered the fray for the injured Davy Kelleher and made immediate impact scoring a well taken goal to see us go in at the break 1-05 to 0-02. The breeze died down for the second half and our defence stood firm as Erins Own tried to get back in the game but Steven Murphy got on the end of a long ball from centre field and knocked it to the back of the net. Minutes later Mark Landers broke through the Erins Own defence and slotted home a well taken goal to kill off the game as a contest. Joe, Steven, Sean and Andy added five points between them to see us advance to the semi finals where we will meet Carrigtohill. Dates to be anounced. Well done to all concerned.

Killeagh 3-15 Bride Rovers 0-16
Our first round championship game on Sunday 3rd of May saw us play impressively both on as individuals and as a team and this richly deserved victory shows we will still be a force to be reckoned with for the championship ahead. Eoin Loughlin was next on the scoresheet scoring 1-2 in close succession and when Andy Walsh hit the back of the net we were 8 points to the beter at half time with the score board reading 2-6 to 0-4.
We held on to our lead throughout the second half with points from Joe Deane, John Fitzgerald, Sean Long and Eoin Loughlin. Our defence was solid and worked tirelessy to the end to prevent Bride Rovers attack and hold our lead. Andy Walsh goaled again to extend our lead and with a further two points from Joe Deane we had secured our victory on a scoreline of 3-15 to 0-16. This week saw both our Senior and Junior A hurlers in league action. On Thursday night last the Seniors travelled to Church Rd to play Blackrock. It was more like a winters evening than a spring evening which meant that conditions under foot were quite slippy to say the least. Both sides traded early scores with Joe Deane netting early in the first half. We went in at half time 1-7 to Blackrock's 0-8. We started well in the second half with some long range points and excellant defending but failed to put real daylight between us until substitute Larry Colins goaled. Full time score Killeagh 2-14 Blackrock 0-14.

Glenbower Rovers 0-10 vs Erin's Own 1-7

On Wednesday night the men from Glenbower travelled to Youghal for the first round of the Junior A Football Championship with Erin's Own our opponents. Glenbower unbeaten so far in this years league we were hoping our winning streak would continue into championship. A few injury worries saw Noel and Kevin and the lads have to jig things around a bit. We didn't get the dream start we were hoping for when Shane was blinded by the lights and the high dropping ball ended up in the back of the net. Erin's Own tacked on another point from a close range free before Kieren Lane opened our account. Joe Deane and John O'Connor brought us to three before two superb long range scores from Kieren Lane saw us go in at half time Killeagh 0-5 Erins Own 1-4.
Impact substitute Kevin O'Connor opened our scoring for the second half. Kieren Lane added another superb point to see us level before being stretchered off with a knee injury. Chances went to begging and both teams traded points, two points from Joe Deane and two outstanding saves from goalkeeper Shane Scully keeping Killeagh in touch. A point by Erin's Own on the stroke of full time meant we thought the show was over but the last kick of the ball saw Sean Long level the match to justify a replay. Date and venue of replay to be announced.

Ger Collins and John O'Connor added to the tally before Joe Deane added 1-2 to see us go in at half time 2-4 to 1-2 up. Our shooting in front of the posts left us down at times but scores from Kevin O'Connor, Sean Long and Rory Crowley kept us in front. St.Catherines pressed forward on several occasions but the defence from our back six was too strong with Timmy Murphy making vital interceptions at corner back. A solid team performance by everyone involved (too many to mention). Our next outing is Saturday the 28th at 3pm in Killeagh vs Ballinacurra.

The team was: 1.S Scully 2. T Murphy 3. N O'Connor 4.L Kelly 5. P McCarthy 6. C Fogarty 7.S Murphy 8. D Kelleher 9. G Collins (0-1) 10. J O'Connor (0-3) 11. J Deane (2-7) 12. K O'Connor (0-1) 13.S Long (2-1) 14. M Landers 15. K Lane. Subs: Rory Crowley (0-2), Conor Murphy and James Fogarty.

Glenbower Rovers 3-10 vs Russell Rovers 1-9.
Two wins out of two for Glenbower Rovers who took on RussellRovers on Sunday last in the Junior A Football League. An entertaining and competitive game of football which saw a great team performance with both sides trading early scores but Kevin Lane's two goals divided the teams at half time, the score being 2-4 to 0-6. Scores from Joe Deane, Sean Long, Davy Kellegher and Brendan Barry throughout the game and a late goal again from Kevin Lane saw Glenbower Rovers win out this game.
Glenbower Rovers take on St. Catherines this Thursday night at 8pm in Ballynoe.
